What a significant aspect of the Christian life we are called to embody that I never took time to understand until reading this book by Rolf Garbog. Growing up in a close extended biological family & active in a small church community/family, I know first-hand the benefits granted from blessing others. Both of my grandfathers covered our family in prayer & blessings, a practice continued with my father. I shared this book with my dad during his visit to South Carolina this year. I know that his blessing on my sister & me throughout the years has greatly impacted our lives. I am starting to pray over my son (and his brother who will be here in 2 months) - asking for God's wisdom, protection & guidance in their lives.

Title: THE FAMILY BLESSING
Author: Rolf Garborg
Publisher: Summerside Press

ISBN: 978-1-934770-62-7
Genre: Inspirational/parenting/Christian living

The Bible shows many instances when God blesses His people, or when fathers pass on blessings to their sons. Some pastors quote the familiar blessing from Numbers when church dismisses. ‘The Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord cause His face to shine upon you…’ and now, Mr. Garborg is suggesting that we take this idea and bless our children, grandchildren, and others.

To quote from the book: “The single most important concern we should have as parents should be the same primary concern Jesus has for us: We must make it our ultimate goal to help our children know and love God with all their hearts. How do we do that? One of the simplest and most powerful ways…is to give them a daily, concrete encounter with His power and favor by laying hands on them and speaking a blessing.”

THE FAMILY BLESSING includes…

Guidelines and practical advice on getting started
Testimonies and stories from parents and children
Encouragement that builds bridges across generations
Spiritual enrichment as you call upon God to bless and be blessed

THE FAMILY BLESSING is a nonfiction book that is easy to read. Attractively bound in a hard cover edition with a satin ribbon to save your place, this book is sure to be one that is cherished and passed down from generation to generation. Ideal for giving as baby shower gifts. I wish I would have discovered this book when my own children were small. The author says it is never too early to start blessing your children, but I wonder if it is ever too late. I think this will be an idea I try to incorporate into our own family devotions. $14.99 hardcover, gift edition. 174 pages.

A good book teaching a great way to love your family. It's historical references support ways to offer "blessings" to your children and grandchildren -- even other people's kids. The letters from some parents made me weep. I will recommend this book to many.
