In this book, the people who mindlessly forwards anything they see in social media their phones and laptops are hacked. In return the hackers demand a lot of ransom money or else their phones would be destroyed and their information will be leaked online. The entire nation goes into a panic mode in order to stop the hacking and leaking of information of the common people. This story follows Professor Fabulous, a forensic cyber psychologist, and his journey to stop the hackers along.
I liked the social commentary the author made about the use of social media. We use social media all the time and a lot of fake news is circulated because we forward stuff without thinking much. We mindlessly scroll through social media, not giving much thoughts before forwarding anything and not caring if it's true or false. Most the fake news goes viral because they are controversial and, of course, untrue. This book compels us to think before forwarding anything and everything we see without verification of the information.

Gangs of Social Media is a fictional story with a strong social message about the spreading of fake news on social media. Through the story, this book makes some very convincing arguments against fake news and the authorities, the social media platforms and the social media users together are responsible for this phenomenon. I really liked the concept of this story and there were moments when I felt that it got a bit extreme but overall I liked how it dealt with this topic.

This book highlights an important and concerning topic that is the spread of fake news on social media. The various factors involved that is responsible for the creation and propagation of fake news are very well established in this book. The twist in the end is good. However, the narration was a bit repetitive which elongates the book. Otherwise it is a wonderful concept and a great read. Language is simple English and easy to understand. Highly recommended.

Worth a read
Have you ever trolled by anyone on social media? How have you dealt with it and share some tips to maintain sanity while being a victim of them?
So, the book theme is "Fake News" spread on social media and fallacy information being shared by its users.
Concept and story are 100% incredible and unputdownable. We all have either shared or come across, such news from "Whatsapp University" Or "Facebook" about our Prime Minister, India and other such touchy, debatable topics. Some ignore and some indulge themselves in them. Author has spoken on the disadvantage of "Freedom of Speech" and the consequences of it if misused.

Story is straightforward and fresh. But the author's descriptive narrative was spot on. Because of his descriptive narrative, I laughed at some scenes where he had described some simple things like something important and when I visualize it made me laugh. Though, it was fast-paced with just 154 pages. It didn't disappoint me anywhere.

In this era of smartphones, it is the humans that are becoming dumber. Today, maximum of the population has access to social media. No doubt, social media has helped to bring everyone closer, it has become easier to connect with your long-lost acquaintances but as everything has its pros and cons, social media too has its own set of cons. Dissemination of fake news tops the list. A virtual Chinese whisper. People blankly forward messages to groups without thinking twice. The coronavirus is the recent pandemic, but the 'spreading of misinformation virtually' pandemic has been around as long as the virtual world has existed.
India's smartphones have been affected by a ransomware where the hacker is demanding 1 lakh rupees or threatens to make their data public. The situation reaches the House Minister KRD, various social media heads and the National Cyber Defense are called for an emergency meeting. Mr. Rajput suggests Forensic Cyber Psychologist, Professor Fabulous can be helpful. Will Mr. Rajput and Professor Fabulous be able to track and find the hacker? If yes, will they be able to do it in time? Why did this hacker put the entire country's internet security on the line? Was it for personal gain or something more deep-rooted?
The book is very engaging. The characters and the scenes have detailed description which makes it interesting and easier to imagine the author's view. The cover of the book is very well-depicted, various social media accounts are bombing each other and a few men are lying dead on the ground, maybe they had been trolled, or maybe due to lynching. The language is clear and easy to understand. Though I noticed a minor error, but that doesn't affect the overall book. I was hooked to the book till the end. A must read for active social media users.

The story begins when three people who are well educated, and settled in life, who us Indians would call "sophisticated" make a mistake of forwarding fake news. Now this is not their first time, they have been doing this for years now. And they are so engrossed in all this forwarding things that they don't even pay attention to the originality of the message. These fake news or fake posts are shared on Social media everyday. Some of you might have forwarded them and if not you've definitely received some.
Now what is fake news? So if you don't know fake news is something, that is irrelevant and baseless, and shared by people without even verifying it. So in the book the Author has shared how these messages can literally destroy your life or someone else's.
So these 3 people are starting another usual day of their lives, but something's going to change. These sophisticated people are going to pay for forwarding those fake messages.
These three people are from different parts of the country. And one morning they are on their way to work, just checking social media like we all do usually. But when they forward a fake message, their devices just stop working. And a message flashed on the screen. "You've forwarded a fake news without verifying it. Your data will be made public in the next 12 hours. To stop this, pay 1 lakh rs, before it's too late". This created a dilemma in their lives. But not only these 3 people are attacked, but millions of people in India have been targeted.
Chaos everywhere. Big government officials, the heads of all the social media platforms are involved in this matter. They have only 11 hours to solve the issue, and I'm really excited to see the motive behind this.The development of the plot is very intriguing. Author has discussed many concepts in this book. Like there are some psychological facts, there are things about hacking and technology that will fascinate you.
The book takes a new turn, and there's a big investigation going on which will definitely keep you hooked to the story! You'd face a incident in the that might make you angry or can shatter you! The author has also given solutions on how to stop fake news. There were few Grammatical and spelling errors in the book. But they can be ignored, because the storyline of the book is more fascinating and important.
The book makes you think a lot, at a point you have to stop yourself from reading and think about all this. Being a good citizen doesn't mean only being patriotic, it's also making sure that you don't make these small mistakes which can cost you a lot more.

Gangs of Social Media is a fictional story written by Vasimraja Bhavikatti. The books deals with issue such as misuse of social media. We often forward any text without confirming the authenticity of it. May be because, we don't have to pay for it even it creates a chaos in the society. The book touches the themes like online bullying, paid trolls and keyboard warriors that have become very common these days. Usually,they are created either to influence people's opinions, push a political agenda or to confuse or manipulate the crowd. Combatting fake news is a challenge for our society.
The book has a commendable message to deliver to the society. The language of the book is lucid and comprehensible.However, the tone of narration will disappoint at some point. There are cuss words used in the book which is not pleasing at all. I give this book 3.5/5 stars.
This book can be read by the beginners and can be read as an awareness theme.
Gangs of Social Media is a fictional story written by Vasimraja Bhavikatti. The books deals with issue such as misuse of social media. We often forward any text without confirming the authenticity of it. May be because, we don't have to pay for it even it creates a chaos in the society. The book touches the themes like online bullying, paid trolls and keyboard warriors that have become very common these days. Usually,they are created either to influence people's opinions, push a political agenda or to confuse or manipulate the crowd. Combatting fake news is a challenge for our society.
The book has a commendable message to deliver to the society. The language of the book is lucid and comprehensible.However, the tone of narration will disappoint at some point. There are cuss words used in the book which is not pleasing at all. I give this book 3.5/5 stars.
This book can be read by the beginners and can be read as an awareness theme.

On questioning the government by people due to ransomware attacks on smartphones and computers, Professor Fabulous, a Forensic Cyber Psychologist starts investigating the case. The story goes on length illustrating the ill effects of fake news on society and the way democracy is getting undermined. It also points out how technology advancements are deviating from righteousness and were distraught. The spread of fakes news costs the life of an individual which is a very disappointing and hard fact yet the spread is unstoppable. To put an end to this protagonist does attack the mobiles and computers through which the fake news spread by using ransomware. Will he able to win in this trail? Can he able to stop spreading fake news? What is the motive behind taking such a step?
Find out by grazing at this socio awakening manuscript. These types of stories are really important in this current era for the better good of society. Highly recommended for everyone.

The first thing after I wake up is opening my phone to see the time or sometimes even wake up to the phone alarm. Aren't most of us doing the same? And it doesn't just end there. We sit with the phone to check the notifications and messages for the next one hour or so. Some of us even carry our phones to the loo to check the different social media platforms we use, to see whats new or any messages poppin' any where. Lets admit this. THIS...is how addicted we all are to our smart phones! 5 minutes away from the phone, and we start searching for it. Watsapp, instagram, twitter, and the list goes on and on.
Everyday we all keep getting fake forwarded messages. We keep seeing trolls all over insta and twitter. We either support, go against or simply ignore all these. But the main fact that the root cause of a particular incident going viral, trolling and abusing the involved people without even getting the facts checked is not even focused. No one even thinks of how and to what extent any fake rumour about a person could cause damage to them and their family.
More than half of the trolls going on the social media sites are baseless rumours. Yet everyone ignores that. And then there are people who even support that without even knowing the full story.
This book gives us an insight of such damage that is caused due to social media misuse. Not just the side of how and what kind pf people are involved in it but also the damage that it brings upon the victims. Totally relatable to what we see every single day, yet ignore. the last decade or so , social media has become a integral part of our daily lives . Knowing or knowing we all have become slaves to it . Every free moment that we get in our lives , we try to check what's app , FB , Twitter , Instagram or some other form of social media .
And this very addiction is being used by some powerful people to spread their propoganda .
In fact I have being guilty of sending messages without checking them and this book was an eye opener for me .
The book is very well written and I really enjoyed how the book started on a very light note only to build up later.

The author has shown us the ground hitting realities of social media. He has written each sense in such a detailed manner that we could visualise author views clearly.

This book was excellent. I highly recommended this book as it had a message, a mystery and a thrill. I loved the storyline and especially the ending. It wasn't at all clichéd and the story was very informative.

The impact of Social media in our life is huge.
In simple words, our day starts with the technology since more than the alarm, it's the messages of Good mornings on smart phone that wakes us up, and even we keep peeping into our phones until we fall asleep.
Things could have been still much more easier if we were only wasting our time but nowadays we have become the puppets of social media where we blindly follow & spread it's news without giving a second thought.
Either it maybe be just a wish, joke or some serious stuff which needs to be handled with sensitivity, all we do is "FORWARD" to another..
"Gangs of Social Media" is one such book that questions the ignorant things that we all have been doing since we got the smart phones in our hand.
The book begins with a touch of humor and the characters mentioned are not just fictional, but I could see our whole population in those Characters.
Author has also mentioned about the Trolls too and any person who has been the blind follower might understand the fact that many trolls are paid.
The whole Nation is in panic, people are running to mobile shops, to police stations and to their friends with a hope that someone has a solution.
Nobody ever thought, one such irresponsible 'Forward message' can create the need of National Emergency.
But when we can invent technologies, we can surely find the solutions for everything, hence the root cause of this hack begins which makes the readers realize so many things on which we never gave a second thought..
As I Started reading, I was smiling since the narration was just too familiar with sarcasm..
As I story proceeds, the curiosity to know more is too high since I have never come across such theme.

An open criticism to all Whatsapp university graduates.
We live in a world where social media is controlling us. We cannot think of a life without social media. That much we are influenced by it. Everyday morning, we wake up, and the first thing we do is take the smartphone and check our Whatsapp, Instagram, FB, etc. As caring and sharing are there in our Indian DNA, without thinking, we will forward the messages without looking for its authenticity or credibility. We are doing this voluntary service without a second thought because nothing is going to lose or no one is going to judge us for the forwarded messages whether it is fake or real.
In the lockdown period, almost every one of us spends time in social media. There are many people making money by creating posts and trolls. Most circulated news during Corona pandemic is posting in the name of Doctors with so and so name and N number of degrees telling how to cure COVID through self remedies. God knows whether the Dr with the name mentioned on post exists or not. If Dr exists and happens to see the message, he will be surprised by the additional degree awarded by what’s app university.

If you had to get rid of one social media application, which one would it be?

Personally for me, all of them. Literally. I really would like all the uncles,aunts, the family relatives and the family members of every reader to read this book.
In the year 2018,I joined very naively I must say our family KHANDAN group where literally EVERYONE was there.
I was like hey! Wow! They don't interact much with me in real life maybe you never know.we might bond over groups and chats. I had no idea I would be so WRONG because as soon as I entered it my phone got 563 unread messages. Guess who all they were from? Yup. FAMILY. Guess what was the message? FORWARDS. It was a pathetic time. No chat. Only FORWARDS.
I started thinking it's already a task to interact with them on a daily basis,if this continues I would not really be able to be with them in the same room. So I exited the group.
The social media application that has taken over our brains,rotted our minds and turned us into zombies. Gangs of Social Media by Vasimraja Bhavikatti talks about the role the authorities,the govt. & the 'common man' plays in keeping the "tradition" of FAKE NEWS alive. We all have our own stories to tell with forwards that reach our news feed. My friend Vijender Sharma would often rebuke me to check and verify what I am resharing from someone else's post on Facebook. This is back when I was under 25 so it's forgiven.🙄🙈

Vasimraja's "Gangs of Social Media" is such a outstanding and atypical fictional story with novel futuristic concept, wrapping real contemporary issues that we are facing now due to insensible usages of social media. Story depicts how internet, smartphone and social media have made people dependable and insane that sometimes they would trapped in unexpected situations. Here story and characters are fictional but the issue is real and perplexing too.
Story starts with three unknown persons busy with forwarding messages they get, unaware with its credibility and without using sense, they keep forwarding them and here they got the trouble with their phone hanging and corrupted by hackers for forwarding fake messages. Then within a time it becomes national emergency as millions of people are affected with same 'ransomeware' attack by unknown. In this panicking situation Mr. Fabulous, Forensic Cyber Psychologist is called for aid by Mr Rajput to solve this riddle some problem that too within 12 hours given.
Except this story, many facts are revealed about social media where people leave behind their moral and common sense forwarding fake messages without knowing it's authenticity driven by emotion or politically motivated or for money paid for trolling, misguiding people and creating illusions.
Author has put commendable efforts bringing such realistic and sensible concept with perfect details of every aspect woven into story that for a time while reading it makes readers to feel like it's real issue happened arround us. Story starts with three unknown persons busy with forwarding messages they get, unaware with its credibility and without using sense, they keep forwarding them and here they got the trouble with their phone hanging and corrupted by hackers for forwarding fake messages. Then within a time it becomes national emergency as millions of people are affected with same 'ransomeware' attack by unknown. In this panicking situation Mr. Fabulous, Forensic Cyber Psychologist is called for aid by Mr Rajput to solve this riddle some problem that too within 12 hours given.
Except this story, many facts are revealed about social media where people leave behind their moral and common sense forwarding fake messages without knowing it's authenticity driven by emotion or politically motivated or for money paid for trolling, misguiding people and creating illusions.
Author has put commendable efforts bringing such realistic and sensible concept with perfect details of every aspect woven into story that for a time while reading it makes readers to feel like it's real issue happened arround us. It shows author's concern and consciousness for such salient issues and his aim to make others conscious and spreading awareness for sensible usage of social media. The story portrays how common social media users fall prey to a cyber attack just because they intentionally or unintentionally keep forwarding fake news, driven by blind emotions. They're threatened that after twelve hours if they don't pay ransom their data will be made public and the device will be self destroyed! A reknowned Forensic Cyber Psychologist, Professor Fabulous is summoned by National Cyber Defense to track the mastermind behind this. A series of events are mentioned some of which might sound unpleasant but that is exactly what's happening around these days. This story is a reflection of the current prevalent situation. Who is the mastermind behind this cyber attack? Will Professor Fabulous be able to expose him? This story also exposes the flaws of the top social media heads who doesn't really take action to curb fake news. After all it is fake news that runs social media! The story also portrays well how Freedom of Speech is exploited through social media.
The title is interesting and intriguing. The cover is somewhat clumsy and gloomy. The storyline is moderate. The plot somehow fails to grip my attention. The pace is sluggish in the beginning though it started accelerating since chapter 11. The climax is well set up and till the anti climax it kept me glued to the story. The suspense element is well developed. The language is not at all furnished. The vocabulary is very poor and the grammar has gone absolutely haywire. This area needs a major check. Characterisation is quite appreciable.
Overall I must say it's a good attempt. Give it a go.

I like the book very much for the topic it deals with. Social Media and all the content which is circulated on it. While I'm a strong believer that Social Media has really allowed people to express themselves more freely than ever before, there has to be a check on fake news and propaganda that gets shared everyday just because it resonates with someone's beliefs and ideology. Also, a lot of content that's shared and posted causes a lot of negativity and biased opinions on religion, politics, systems and so on.
I liked the usage of local languages and references from Indian Television shows by the author which makes the plot and characters more relatable. The language is lucid and easy. The plot is simple but the plot twists makes the story more intriguing. It has a strong and appealing message to every age group and therefore, I feel everyone should give this a read.

Every single invention has it’s two sides, one positive and negative, same goes with social media.Everyday, we get to read about cyber attacks,frauds and what not. People are so blind that they don’t even read once before forwarding unwanted fake news, they are not aware about it’s disadvantages.Fake news, is an issue which causes huge losses to people, affects people badly, be it mob lynching or scam and frauds.

Fake news is much more dangerous than rumours as rumour may fade away by time, but fake news, once uploaded on internet can never be then caught in control. Internet being a vritual space offered a lot of freedom to individuals but it also increased the ignorance in them. Ignoring the need of cross checking and searching about the authenticity of matter leads to the promotion of fake news.
We all have been using social media for more than a year. Havent you noticed messages like ' Forward this message to 20 people and Lakshmi Devi will bless you', 'Click this link and get N iphone free' , Religious and party based fake news and many such unauthentic, biased and totally useless ones? Due to our ignorance, many of them have been shared earlier.
And the book depicts- on a fine morning, such a fake message was shared by many which awaited some thing worse than before for the Indian people and government.
This book seemed to me more futuristic as if the author portrays and warns what will happen if people keep on sharing fake news again and again. The whole book of 154 pages includes the incidents happening in a day. It covers various governmental aspects, polictical affairs, socio-cultural impacts and technological matters on sharing fake news. It also cites examples of people who lost their lives due to sharing of the same. The very active characters of Prof. Fablulous, Rajput and his team could solve the mystery by way of perseverance and will, but will that happen if such a scam happens in India is an big question that popped up in my mind after finding the tension of the story.
The book ends with an optimistic note of passing the 'Fake News Bill' but leaves gap for reader to think about its realistic applications.
The language of the book is simple, interesting and engaging. The tone of the book makes the eyes of the reader to stick to the matter and curious to read further and further. I highly recommend this to everyone as the subject needs a greater reach.

Firstly I would like to appreciate the author taking up such an important topic and through some light to it.
“Fake news is like climate change, you can ignore it, but it will not ignore you.”
Today social media surrounds us too closely even closer than we often realize. Definitely social media is a good platform to stay connected, but its negative effects are becoming more and more prominent nowadays.
The author has expressed a brilliant story. 'Fake news' spreads faster than authenticated news, which has impacts on society. This important ignored factor is probed into and various causes and solutions are discussed. Though the story is a crime thriller, few personal issues among the characters bring a feeling of liveliness to the story. There are a few mistakes in the book that are evident and could have been rectified with another round of editing. For example, the time for destruction is said to be 12 hours but the countdown decreases from 12:59:59, that is, 13 hours. Still, the focused message is conveyed clearly. The book cover is apt and denotes social media's impact on humans. I hope people who forward fake messages understand its meaninglessness and change themselves
One such major issue is the " Yellow Journalism" or fake news. We often share the news we find interesting even without verifying. But sometimes the fake news costs too much so that someone may kill themselves, due to the defamation it brings.
This book puts forward the topic in a very interesting way, but what is more important than the plot of the story is the information it hides, the awareness it aims to spread.

This important ignored factor is probed into and various causes and solutions are discussed. Though the story is a crime thriller, few personal issues among the characters bring a feeling of liveliness to the story. There are a few mistakes in the book that are evident and could have been rectified with another round of editing. For example, the time for destruction is said to be 12 hours but the countdown decreases from 12:59:59, that is, 13 hours. Still, the focused message is conveyed clearly. The book cover is apt and denotes social media's impact on humans. I hope people who forward fake messages understand its meaninglessness and change themselves
One such major issue is the " Yellow Journalism" or fake news. We often share the news we find interesting even without verifying. But sometimes the fake news costs too much so that someone may kill themselves, due to the defamation it brings.
This book puts forward the topic in a very interesting way, but what is more important than the plot of the story is the information it hides, the awareness it aims to spread.
I would like to recommend it as a must-read for all, as it is pretty important to realize the immense destructive potential of tech like social media if used irresponsibly.

From the exposition to the climax, the author has narrated the story so wonderfully that it keeps you hooked until the end. A little comedy, a little tragedy, this book is surely an extension of allegorical fiction. Because apart from a very few elements, I could see our society reflected in each and every characters. This is one of the grey area books which makes you wonder if Joker was not the villain afterall. Readers must pay special attention to the story's ending.
