The Shadowforce is back, stronger than ever. One year has passed since Titan's defeat, and balance reigns between the universes. Guided by the ones they lost, Johnny, Ryan, Sam, Jane, and Rose are beyond all the problems of everyday life, leading Earth into a new era.
Yet, this illusion of peace begins to evaporate when a mysterious, relentlessly unstoppable entity hiding in Earth's cities begins to wreak havoc, destroying everything and everyone in its path and leaving a bloody trail in its wake. Suddenly, nothing is assured and no one is safe, even the heroes themselves.
Their relationships and character tested like never before, The Shadowforce must embark on an epic journey around the world and between realms, uniting once again if there is any chance to overcome this new foe, one that will not stop until everything they once saved is burned. No matter the outcome, nothing will ever be the same.
John-Clement Gallo is a 21-year-old Christian author of The Shadowverse, a Science-Fiction Superhero novel. He enjoys astronomy, history, astrophysics, ambient music, sports, and is also a trumpet player. While living in Houston, Texas, he was the youngest person (11) to become a licensed RC pilot. On the other hand, he is ranked a black belt in Taekwondo and Hapkido, though he is very unassuming and tends to keep that accomplishment a cool secret. Currently, he lives in Orlando, Florida with his family, trying to outlive the constant heat.
I want to thank the author for providing me with a copy of his book in exchange for an honest review.
This sequel was a lot of fun! I came from reading a rather heavy fantasy, and I thought it would be difficult for me to get into this book that’s more on the side of the paranormal and sci-fi (although it also has fantastic elements) but wasn’t hard at all, which is great! I think the author has done a great job with this book, I’m glad to read about the Shadowforce again and embark with them on a new and dangerous adventure. It was easy to read, the pacing of this book is really great, the plot is as solid as it was in the first book, and above all, I’m glad to see a growth in the characters, that was a point that I expected to see.
3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐💫
You can find more of my reviews & other fun content on my blog A Book. A Thought.
As this is a sequel, I don’t want to mention too much of the plot. I can mention that again we meet our group of superheroes but this time they have a new challenge that will put them to test more than ever and they must face even darker and more lethal forces, that will take them around the world and between realms.
This book is very dynamic, there are always many things happening, it can be overwhelming at times, but this was what I needed. One of my favorite things about it was the dialogues, having read the first book, obviously, I knew that I would find good and solid dialogues since it was also something that I had already enjoyed, but this time I’m pleased to say that they’re not only good dialogues but they’re placed at the right times and there are very funny. It gives the whole plot light moments that you can devour very quickly until you almost forget that the characters are in trouble. The author’s style, in general, is very good, and something that I don’t usually say about the books that I read, I can easily say about this one: the action scenes are very well created and thought out. I’m not a big fan of fight scenes, I always find myself kind of bored while reading about them, but this time I confess that I was caught and that makes me very happy!
Another point that I would like to highlight is the characters, I don’t think I feel really emotionally attached to any of them, but I did appreciate a marked growth and I’m glad to see that there are many new things that we can learn about them and understand about their personalities. The fact that the characters are a strong point in this book also adds more weight to what’s happening, which I celebrate. Even so, personally, I’m still more interested in the plot itself and the fun of traveling the world to defeat this villain that seems like nothing can stop him.
I would compare this book with The Fantastic Four or Spiderman, that kind of marvel movies, because it feels like that, it has that tone behind that makes you feel that you’re being part of an action and adventure movie which is the merit of the author who has planned the important events very well and has positioned them in an interesting way that catches the reader’s atention and leaves you wanting to know more.
There are moments of tension and very heavy ones as well happening in the book, but they don’t feel heavy at all, this has a good side, because obviously, it makes them easier to read and easier to process, but on the other hand, there’s a small lack of weight on them that makes it hard to take them so seriously. I’m not talking about the book in its entirety, which I liked a lot, but about some specific scenes that I thought should have lasted a little longer to allow the reader to have more time to fully commit to what was happening.
In short, it’s a great book! I highly recommend his first work, The Shadowverse, especially if you enjoy plots about superheroes and supervillains, also if you like sci-fi and paranormal elements because they’re very well handled. The book in general is very dynamic and highly entertaining, it’s not boring at any time and the author’s light style makes the passing being fast, which is great! The characters were much more thoughtful and better built in this one, as I also saw a better focus on details. It has a very solid ending, so I know you’ll enjoy both books if you give them a chance.
Young Gallo did it again! After his successful first young adult, sci-fi, superhero, adventure novel, The Shadowverse, J.C. is giving us another treat titled The Shadowerse: Vengeance.
Without further ado, I am going to say I loved it and enjoyed it! And it’s not because I was among the first Earthlings who had the pleasure of reading it (it’s not vanity, it’s called beta reading); I cannot tell for certain how many aliens saw the manuscript before me since J.C. has often his gaze fixed on the night-sky and the outer space. I did it because it is a fun and entertaining read.
Just as it was the case in The Shadowverse, I enjoyed his funny and witty dialogues which made his superheroes and other protagonist soooo real. Although his black belt in Taekwondo and Hapkido helped him to master exciting action scenes, and his vivid imagination created beautiful realms with which we share our existence, Gallo has a knack for writing dialogues and describing situations that will make you giggle and laugh.
So, whose vengeance we are talking about? Is it The Shadowforce with Johnny, Ryan, Sam, Jane, and Rose, or the dark forces of defeated Titan and the new evil entity that called itself The Breath of Death as it wreaks havoc all over the Earth? It’s not on me to reveal you that; this is why this talented teenage author wrote a sequel to The Shadowverse for all of us to enjoy his story while the pleasant images of Star Wars saga and Fantastic Four flash in the back of our mind.
Make no mistake, The Shadowforce has its own value and uniqueness, just as it has each of its superheroes and other heroes who will become your darlings as Kevin became mine!
Thank you, J.C., for Vengeance, thank you for your persistence in recruiting me as your beta and for the exciting four days I spent with your book. I just wish it lasted longer.
In Shadowverse: Vengeance by J.C. Gallo The Shadowforce is back stronger than ever. One year has passed and a fragile balance reigns between universes. The illusion of peace begins to evaporate when a mysterious entity begins to wreak havoc. Suddenly nothing is assured and no one is safe. Can the heroes prevail? I was lucky to receive this book to review and believe readers of this genre will like it. This book is available on Amazon
So I wondered whether,, like some authors do when there are heroes and villains involved, the 2nd book in this series would be a little darker, a little more serious in its entirety. I am happy to say that hasn't been the case here! Of course the characters are already developed from book 1, but there is still time in this book to get to know them a little more, and for there to be some funny and clever moments and dialogue. The heroes are, for the most part, likeable, every day people (in a way I'm reminded of early spiderman comics). The villains are definitely easy to despise although on a couple of occasions I kinda thought, you aren't so bad after all.... Are you? But you will have to decide for yourself whether you think I thought that at the end or not! I enjoyed this book just as much, if not a little bit more, than the first one and it has left me wanting more from these heroes! One of the reasons I really REALLY enjoyed this book is the scene setting, the atmosphere that builds up in my mind as I read and start to imagine what each area looked like and who was going to do what next and how.. I could see it in my head as I read. Overall an easy 5 stars, highly recommended.
I want to thank the author, JC Gallo, for providing me with a copy of his book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved this book just as much if not more than the first!
I am not usually one for action scenes in books but I absolutely was hooked in to every single action scene that JC was writing. They were so well thought out and executed.
JC also writes such funny, witty dialogue, that is so realistic and smooth.
