The Beast and the Briar: Book One of the Seven Realms Saga

Rate this book
Thirteen-year-old Aisling Mason had always loved to tell faerie stories, she just never expected to end up right in the middle of one. Still, Aisling had made her choice; she had come to the Seven Realms of her own accord in order to save her niece and nephew. She's just not sure what to do about her newfound destiny. On her journey through this unfamiliar world, Aisling will encounter all manner of dark cursed princesses, hungry trolls, bloodthirsty werewolves, feral children, and capricious elves to name a few. Hopefully, with the help of a chickenhearted changeling and two talented twins, Aisling might just be able to fulfill the prophecy, break the curse that lies upon the Seven Realms, and win her way back home.

I had the privilege to read this book before it was officially published and it was REAL GOOD, Y'ALL. Even un-edited, Robert Drew is a great writer who really captures the art of fairy tell retellings (or restylings?). Nothing gets me pumped up like a good ol' fashioned fairy tale retelling, and the fact that my good friend wrote one of the best ones I've read in a while just made it all the more fun to savor this book. Highly recommend it! And excited to see where the rest of the saga takes us.

This truly felt like reading a folk tale from "the old country" as it were.

It possesses that "simple magic" of Jack and the Bean Stalk, or Cinderella with just the right amount of our modern sensibility.

I lovely tale, the first of, I hope, several to come for Aisling's story is far from over and I look forward to seeing its completion.

I must warn there ARE formatting errors but I was able to look past them to enjoy the story.
