Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?

The short? You got it.

I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.

How was that?

A little more detail? Gotcha.

I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.

My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.

Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

I'm sticking with my 3.5 stars. There was just to much BDSM for me. I wanted more daddy kink instead of the regular BDSM stuff.

----------------------------------------------

3.5 stars

This book had some things I really loved, and then some things that bothered me a bit. I am a bit sad about that since the hurt/comfort part were so so good. And of course because this had DADDY KINK! My favorite kind of kink.

Hagen is a history teacher at a small arts college. He’s quite happy with his job and his life, if only he could find another boy willing to be his submissive. His previous submissives told him there was something missing, so Hagen thinks he might need to work on being a good Dom.

When he gets an invite to an event hosted by his old BDSM club, he wants to accept. But he also wants to bring a boy. Since he doesn’t have one, he tries the app of Valentine's Inc. The company arranges for a companion for any event. No sex included.

When Hagen meets the boy he met on the app, he is shocked to see it’s one of his students. Baxter, the student who scores average and sometimes even falls asleep during class.

Baxter is 27 years old and trying to finally get his degree after he had to drop out the first time. His boyfriend suddenly left him and now he’s struggling to get by. He’s working two jobs and lives in a trailer, and things like food are a luxury these days. He knows he’s never going to make next semester’s tuition, but he keeps trying anyway.

When Baxter and Hagen meet at the restaurant for their Valentine's Inc. date, they are both hesitant. But Baxter needs the money, and Hagen needs a boy. So they agree to go ahead with the arrangement. Baxter will train for a few weeks how to be Hagen’s submissive, and then Hagen will take him to the club event.

During the time that Hagen is training Baxter both feel something is not quite right with their arrangement, but Baxter is too inexperienced to really notice it, and Hagen just can't figure out what it is.

When Baxter faints one night when kneeling for Hagen, Hagen finds out how dire Baxter’s situation really is. So it’s time for Hagen to let go of the Dom/sub idea and finally become the daddy he wants to be for Baxter….

I reeeeeaaaally loved how Hagen didn’t notice how bad Baxter was really doing, so that we could have the awesome hurt/comfort scene that followed when he did find out. I also really liked the daddy kink (of course).

But I do have to say that Hagen was a bit hard to like at times. He was a bit stiff. I did like how he finally figured out he didn't want a submissive serving him, but how he wanted to be the one taking care of his boy, like a good daddy.

I wasn’t a fan of the whole club thing. It felt too BDSM-y for me. Now I can do BDSM just fine, but here I wanted more of the daddy kink. And a visit to a BDSM club to watch BDSM demonstrations really doesn’t do it for me when I’m reading a daddy kink book.

I also wanted Hagen to step up more in the second half. He did at first, and was a wonderful daddy to Baxter. But then he started talking about giving Baxter more freedom and that he should move back now that his trailer was fixed. I just wanted Hagen to go all daddy on Baxter’s ass and drag him back. But it didn’t quite happen like that.

So while the hurt/comfort parts were absolutely amazing, Hagen was not the most likable person. So 3.5 stars it is.

I loved this book. The characters were so well-written, their emotional struggles were so heart felt. I love Daddy kink. The moments where Hagen finally had an understanding of who he truly wanted to be for Baxter were the best. I must admit that first part of the book Hagen was a total snob with attitude. The high horse he was riding on needed to be put to pasture pronto. It took Baxter's complete and utter exhaustion for Hagen to see how wrong he was. After that day he finally saw his own failings and started on right track. I liked his dedication to Baxter's care and all the ways he showed his affection.

Baxter got the short end of the stick. The man who was supposed to be there for him left him high and dry after using him for years. Now Baxter is barely surviving. It's a tough world out there if you are alone, and there is no one in Baxter's corner. When a job for dating agency brings him face to face with his sexy history professor, he can't believe that the sophisticated man can like and be with someone like him - a man struggling with his life. It takes awhile for Baxter to see his own worth, just how smart he is and everything he can give Hagen as his boy.

I loved how they both dove into the relationship once they got past the misunderstandings. It was hot, sweet, tender and all kinds of adorable. It was steamy, mild angst kinky romance with mention of BDSM elements (nothing too heavy - just light teasing). I loved how constant both men were, how devoted they became to each other. The club scene was out of this world. I loved the ending - it was awesome. My first time reading Nora Phoenix's work, and it won't be the last.

Both our heroes are a little broken and out of the dating game, before finding each other and rediscovering themselves. It was a sweet story about giving love a second chance and finding love where you’d never expect it. Plus Daddy kink. Which I’m not a huge fan of, but it was just such a cute read.

This is my favorite of the series thus far. Not because of the D/s, Daddy/boy stuff that was okay and worked well. However what really made this book special are the two MCs. Hagen and Baxter are both men that have been deeply scarred by their last relationships. It means that Hagen has lost confidence in his ability to provide what a potential partner needs and Baxter has little reason to ever trust another man again. These two damaged men come together and begin to see that perhaps together they can heal and build something strong and true. The author did an incredible job of creating these two people, matching each and making them very complex and fascinating. Prior to these two coming together this book didn't really grab me and I wasn't impress. Once they did however I was hooked. Such an incredible journey. So many tears for Baxter, first sad for his suffering, then happy seeing him grow and shine.

DNF ~40% through

Writing was sub-par and the whole concept was ridiculous. The actions the characters kept taking didn't really make sense for how they'd been characterized or the situation, which made the whole thing feel forced and bizarre. The "Daddy Dom" characters was a pompous ass, and the sudden ~revelation~ that he wanted to be a Daddy not just a Dom came kind of out of nowhere. Just... not good.

Loooovvved this sweet, sexy Daddy kink story.

I loved how they both approached the relationship - Hagen realizing that he wanted to care for instead of BE cared for, and Baxter was introduced to a whole new world of kink.

Very sweet and hot.

It's a story of a slightly older than usual college student...Baxter, doing his best against some very steep odds and accidentally getting involved with his professor. You have to feel for Baxter's situation and see how hard he is struggling as life throws one obstacle after another in his path. Professor Hogan St. Croix learns why this bright young man is failing his class and why he is exhausted all the time, just as Baxter is presented with yet another obstacle. The professor comes to Baxter's rescue. What starts off as a paying job for the Professor quickly becomes much more, when Hagen not only realizes his honest attraction but his real need to take care of this boy who really needs someone like him. It was a nice touch by Nora Phoenix to have the privileged professor learning something from the impoverished student. Both are great characters in this sweet, sexy, but short, fun read.

Interesting May/December Dom/Daddy kink that, while hot and eventually emotionally fulfilling did not feel natural when the old switcheroo came around. Actually, the first thing that made this book feel off was the Valentine's Inc date that really did seem forced due to the plot constraints of the book.
The reason for Hagen to use Valentine's Inc was dumb and inorganic to the story and the type of guy Hagan was, up to that point. Also, that he moved forward with his paid escort that wasn't just a student at his college but from his own class seemed very out of character for who Hagan had been set up to be. Then again, we get this "aha" moment that just seemed to come out of nowhere, especially since Hagen really was a totally thoughtless, privileged, insulated, judgmental, dick-wad right up until that "aha" moment. Since Hagan was so unlikable up until about 1/3 of the book or more, it was hard to switch from thoughtless to overwhelming caring daddy.

Not really my favorite NP book.

This was a well written book and I enjoyed it for the most part. I just couldn’t get into the whole Daddy kink. I love the May/December aspect and I liked both Baxter and Hagen, but every time he called him Daddy I cringed. Oh well, to each his own.

4.5 stars. Did you know that a bunch of her audiobooks are free on audible right now?? Say what you want about Nora Phoenix's writing style or the content of her books, but girlfriend KNOWS how to build and maintain tension in her plots!! The spice is always fully integrated into the plot, none of it is self serving or a substitute for an actual plot.

This book doesn't fulfill any specific kink that I relate to--I don't care about age gap, and I'm somewhat ambivalent when it comes to Daddy kink. What I loved about this book was the development from a basic d/s relationship INTO Daddy kink. If you're not into Daddy kink, hear me out:

I think a lot of people who shy away from Daddy kink (me. that person was me..) have read at least one book where Daddy kink was poorly portrayed. At it's core, Daddy kink is about taking care of someone. You might dislike or have negative experiences with the term 'Daddy', but calling someone your 'daddy' has nothing to do with incest. It's not even a factor. Having a Daddy is about someone taking care of you to the point of parental care, as if you are their dependent, but there's nothing incestuous about it.

All Daddies are Doms, but not all Doms are Daddies. And that's a really important distinction that gets lost in some sloppy books with d/s dynamics. Daddy isn't some flippant thing you yell during sex in these situations, it's a term of respect and gratitude. I thought this book portrayed Daddy kink in a very accurate light, so I hope that's not the reason you decide to skip it, if you have any interest in d/s relationships.

I'd also like to say, I'm really enjoying a lot of Nora's standalones. Aside from her Omegaverse series, her other series haven't held my interest, but all of her standalones have absolutely shocked me with how engaged I was from start to finish.

Oh how I loved this book. It had all the feels. It was nice to see a Dom who wasn't quite sure about himself and what he was looking for. And Baxter, the poor guy couldn't catch a break. Loved their interactions from the start and continued to adore them throughout the book. Not all Daddy books work for me but this one was pretty mild and I found it adorable. Great fun to read!

ehh okay so the first half of the book was really enjoyable but once they decided to go in to a relationship, that is kinda where it fell apart for me. I wanted to see them in their day to day with the classroom aspect since Hagen was Baxter's professor... but we only saw that part of the relationship at the beginning.

overall it was an alright book but just felt like there was something missing. i think seeing more of them trying to navigate the professor student dynamic, and also starting the daddy boy dynamic would have been interesting to see. also seeing more of Baxter's best friend would have been nice rather than just randomly.

You know, I'm not a huge fan of Daddy kinks. I liked them, don't get me wrong, but there are other tropes I've always liked more. But this book has quickly adjusted my thinking on the whole subject. Damn. This book broke my heart so many times, but it was so worth it. The connection they had just made everything worth. They just had to go through some stuff to get to the good parts.
Baxter is at the end of his rope. Working two jobs and going to school full time is draining him. He can't make tuition, barely eats, barely sleeps, and is doing all he can to pass his classes. Now he's in trouble because he was caught sleeping in Professor St. Croix's class. It wouldn't be so bad if St. Croix was being such a snob and a dick, and if Baxter didn't think he was hot. His friend helps him find a third job that pays more money, and just as he's starting he's confronted by St. Croix on his date. He's humiliated and Professor got everything all wrong. When they meet up for a date through Baxter's third job at Valentine's Inc, everything comes to a head. Baxter puts Professor in his place but Professor has no idea how bad it really is. They go through what their 'dates’ entail, until one afternoon Baxter is late and something bad happens. Hagen realizes how bad Baxter has it, and he feels horrible. Lower than dirt. And he's finally found out what's been missing in his life. He wants to be Baxter's 'Daddy’. Now if he can get Baxter on board with his thinking, life just may end up perfect.
Dear heaven, what Baxter is dealing with is rough. And sadly, so many are going through the same thing. When Hagen first started berating Baxter for falling asleep in class and such, I really wanted to slap him silly. He acted so pompous and asinine. He didn't give Baxter really a chance to explain anything. Although, Baxter wouldn't have said too much, because he felt so humiliated and embarrassed. Baxter was doing all he can. When they started their dates through Valentine's Inc, Hagen still wasn't getting a clue. Baxter had given so many clues without even saying a word but Hagen just put him through his training as a sub. But it got too much for Baxter. Everything did. And when it all broke loose, I actually felt sorry for Hagen as well. He basically shoved both feet in his mouth and it was time to make it right.
The hard part with both of these guys is that they both had some bad relationships that left them very hurt and hard to trust. Hell, neither had taken up new relationships. It's hard to get back on the saddle after that kind of hurt. When Hagen finally figured out how he wanted his relationship with Baxter to be, it fell into place for him. But it would take a lot of work and trust on both of their parts.
This is such a great book. I love it. I suggest some tissues with this one for sure.

Hagan is a Dom who's previous sub walked out on him for not being harsh enough, leaving Hagen insecure about himself.

Baxter is a student working three jobs to keep himself in college. Hagen is judgmental and critical about Baxter's fatigue and personal life.

But when Hagen finds out the truth, it forces him to realize he's not the same type of Dom anymore, he wants someone to care for. Hagen is a Daddy Dom. But does Baxter need a Daddy?

Sweet and angsty, Kissing the Teacher is a soft love story about two men who were abandoned by someone they trusted and learning not to be so quick to jump to conclusions.

Holy hotness. This book should come with a sexiness warning, because it was Hot. And in between all the hotness, it was filled with enough sweetness to give cavities.
I love the way Nora writes, and this isn't my first Nora book. It is the first one of the Valentine's Inc series that I read, though. I really liked it. I'm looking forward to the next Nora Phoenix book, and to reading the rest of the books in this series.

A very hot daddy-kink story. I liked both Baxter and Hagen, and I appreciated how their relationship gradually developed into a Daddy/boy dynamic. Although Hagen was an experienced Dom, he had never been a Daddy, and Baxter had only had vanilla relationships prior to meeting Hagen.

So I enjoyed this - I found it easy to read and read it pretty quickly, which is the main thing I'm looking for in a book like this. I liked the characters and the set up for the story.

There were quite a few things I had problems with, though, and the rest of this review is just going to focus on those things (I know, I gave it 4 stars but I still have so much to complain about? Yeah that's just how it is sometimes). Hagen's decision to hire someone to go to the event with him could have used more thought or a better reason why he was going. He seemed fully committed to not going and then suddenly was hiring someone to go with him - why? If there'd been some reason to go, like he had to make an appearance to keep his membership, or his friend had pleaded for him to go, or something, it would have worked better for me.

Another problem was just how fast things went. Within the first week of them staying together they were both in love, and Baxter goes from starving to the point of fainting to having put on enough weight that he skin is glowing? Can people really put on weight that quickly? I wish this part of the story had been 2 or 3 weeks instead of 1, as it would have made the rest of the timeline work a lot better for me and feel less like insta-love.

I also think there could have been more conflict around them being professor and student, and the app saying they can't have sex or it'd be prostitution, but then they have sex pretty much immediately (ignoring the fact that both characters refuse to call hand jobs sex because it's ~only sex if a dick goes up an ass~ 🙄 Okay, I forgot that line of thinking until right now but it really irritated me).

Another thing I forgot until just now that irritated me: Hagen has a paragraph that's pretty fatphobic, where he talks about his healthy eating habits and how he has Greek yoghurt as a treat but he's only allowed to eat it ever second day or he'll get a old man stomach like his father? 🤢 Dude, you can eat healthy as you want but I swear to God eating Greek yoghurt every day would not be the end of the world, and neither would having a stomach. And Jesus if Greek yoghurt was my only treat for me because I was so determined to stay skinny I'd rather just be dead.

Also, this is a very sex-heavy book, which I don't mind because it's kink and all the scenes have variety and don't get boring - but all that said: using the word knops for nipples is one of the least sexy works you could pick for nipples.
