If you had to give a speech to a hundred colleagues today, how would you feel? Mark Robinson would feel confident, but it wasn’t always that way. In Speak Inspire Empower, he explains his secrets of presenting to any audience - how you can keep them hanging on your every word and persuade them to follow your call to action.
In this book, you’ll learn how to:
- get everyone’s attention from your first words - have a clear goal for your presentation - build self-confidence for your talk - learn from the very best public speakers of today - persuade your audience using influence techniques
And he relates his personal story, how he gave his first presentation - terrified - to how he ended up on the TEDx stage to give the popular talk: “How to present to keep your audience’s attention”.
This book is unlike any other on public speaking. The techniques are powerful and practical. Each chapter contains exercises for you to implement what you’ve learnt. His personal story is as inspiring as it is fun to read.
And his message of positive feedback is something everyone needs to hear.
“Mark has taken the principles learnt from my course and built on them to give a great TEDx speech, a first-class presentation skills workshop and now a winning book! The powerful techniques in this book are well explained, easy to implement and will take your presentations to a new level. And his personal journey, from a terrified presenter to the TEDx stage, is inspiring to all. Highly recommended!” Remco Claassen: Speaker & Best Selling Author
Mark Robinson has been giving presentations for over 20 years as part of his work as a software consultant. Though he is not a natural presenter by his own admission, he has learnt how to present well from excellent presenters such as Remco Claassen and his own wife, Annelies.
In 2016 he shared some of his best presentation skills tips to a packed auditorium at ASML. A few months later, and after a successful pitch, he fulfilled an ambition to speak at a TEDx event, speaking on the topic, “How to present to keep your audience’s attention”.
Later that year he started sharing his presentation skills tips with his TMC colleagues.
Now he has given presentation skills training to over 500 people. Most of his participants are English speaking, technical people in the Eindhoven region. But he has trained:
- at many different companies and some non-profits (including local councils), - at various levels (including senior management), - in various locations throughout The Netherlands and beyond (Belgium and France) - and sometimes even in Dutch! 😉
What make this course different? It is practical, every participant presents at least six times, but it is also focused on building up their confidence by only allowing positive feedback.
Mark is also a TEDx speaker coach for TEDxEindhoven.

How are your presentation skills? Ever dreamed of speaking in front of a large audience? My name is Albertho and with the next few words I will convince you to purchase this awesome book.... "Speak Inspire Empower"
I had the possibility to attend the masterclass "Powerful Presentations" by Mark Robinson. And now I had the honor and privilege of reading his book (before launch) on even more powerful presentation skills. I highly recommend everybody to read this awesome book. It not at all heavy reading material, but light and very positively written. If you never had the experience of presenting or you want to tweak and tune your "A-game" presentations.... This is a must read!! #SpeakInspireEmpower
Along the long list of presentation skills books, there's now another one. But differently, it's a refreshing one as it's written by an Engineer and with an Engineering mindset behind it. Although the focussing point is at Engineers, this book is very helpful (and entertaining) for any other people too. I liked the writing style with alot of references and feedback loops to Mark's personal experiences in it. It encourages you to directly try out, practice and experience your tips and techniques. Good to know that I already should focus on adapting my skills and routine to reach your adviced 10 times practicing... From now, presentations will be interactive, educational, entertaining and encouraging to take action; very much recommended!
If everyone in my field read this book, I will never be bored at a conference again.
I was looking forward to this book, since I regret having missed out on Mark’s workshop before relocating. The concrete steps and guidelines, balanced with personal stories and anecdotes, makes this an entertaining handbook for how to confidently give an impactful presentation.
Much thanks to Mark’s British humor this is an enjoyable read. As an engineer, I love that it so obviously is written by an engineer. Does this look Greek to you: PE=3MP+C2A+TQ? Read the book to find out what is behind this and many other memorable ideas.
PS: Contains inspiring quotes and witty footnotes.
Mark Robison managed to keep his audience focus and interested not only during his “Presentation Skills” Workshop but also while you read his book. His personal experiences, good sense of humor, tips and exercises make you rethink the way you are presenting and how you can improve significantly your skills. This book really inspires and empowers you to present any topic to any audience no matter how difficult your topic or audience is.
Nobody is incapable of presenting something they're passionate about. It just takes the realisation to tell your own story, and apply some very simple techniques. So simple that you overlook them, unless someone like Mark Robinson points them out. That is what he does in this book: he tells his own story, from shy guy to TEDx presenter, presentation trainer and now best selling author. A must read for anyone who has to present a lot and wants to avoid their audience getting bored, and for anyone how just wants to be able to present to an audience, even if only once. Although that last bit is doubtful - once you start, you can't stop. Buy, learn, present!
This is an excellent guide to presenting with impact, packed with advice that is easy to remember and put in practice straight away.
Last year I saw the effects of Mark’s training on some of my team members and colleagues. I remember being stunned by the engaging presentations given by previously shy colleagues, after only one day with Mark. Now I feel like I finally have the ‘secret sauce’ used that day, and will be putting it to good use!
A must read for anyone who wants to communicate well to audiences large and small.
Have travelled through a tough journey of executing a project and now is the moment to shine by presenting the work to the others? or attended a conference or event, business or private, and standing silent alone not daring to start a conversation and benefit from this amazing networking moment? These are a few scenario's where Mark teaches us not only how to cure the shyness and instead shine in front of public, but also inspire and empower others, necessary skills for any leader. I would call it the transfer path from a shy person to a leader character! Highly recommended!
I found this book very practical, easy and fun to read and understand. This book encourages you to directly practice and experience the top tips and techniques which are a mix of a personal story combined with Mark’s journey of discovery to become a TEDx presenter. It is a very complete book with a lot of very well organized information. Every chapter contains a good sumary of the points and also includes exercises and a lot of useful guidance. I highly recommend everybody to read this awesome book. This can help everyone to give impressive presentations.
Great book for anyone who has to give a presentation and has the desire to become great at it. I read it with a grin on my face. An easy and fun to read pageturner. Step by step the magic of giving great presentations is being revealed. I never wanted to stand in the spotlights but now I am really eager to go on stage. Just by reading it I feel empowered and with greater confidence.
I was wondering if this book would be worth reading as I already followed the great training “Powerful presentations” given by Mark Robinson. I was wrong! The training teached and inspired me how to do it differently and made me aware of the power of positive feedback. The book on the other hand still kept my attention from page 1 on (Marks personal stories are truly inspiring and the book is so much fun to read. Hani Jevan Hemmat’s illustrations are making it all compleet). And it also inspired me to take my next steps in presenting to even larger groups :) Thanks for the new insights and inspiration Mark Robinson.
Marks Roberson’s book “SIE” is an eclectic mix of a personal story combined with his journey of discovery which has lead him to becoming a TEDx presenter and to drive him to share his experiences and knowledge on presentations. Top tips and essential information are intertwined with anecdotes to form a self-help book on how to make a memorable presentation. If you are just starting out and new to presenting then there is a lot of useful guidance; if you are a more seasoned presenter then you will be challenged by some of the concepts and forced to consider your own presentation style and content!
Exactly what every engineer - or by extension, everyone who will ever give a presentation - needs. It is so important for all of us to be able to communicate in a clear, concise, effective, persuasive and engaging way
Too little we learn about speaking in front of groups and colleagues, too much there is to learn.
This book gives both a personal story of the author's presentation skills evolution and a theoretical overview of all the tips and tricks you can use to give an effective presentation.
I think the book itself could - ironically - be a bit more concise from time to time. Still, it a very smooth read and packed with information. Would strongly recommend!
The Read Inpire Empower book and the Powerful Presentations course are kind of Conjoined Twins. I had the privilage to follow the course before I read the book. Both are really powerful. The course adds the personal touch and you embrace the positivity. The book gives a nice overview of the course, great summary at the end of each chapter and with Marks personal story as a bonus. What I really like is the style of the book: if you had the opportunity to see his TEDx Talk or follow his course you can 'hear' Mark speak instead of that you read the book.
Speak, Inspire, Empower by Mark Robinson is an inspiring and empowering book.
Mark went from an inexperienced and nervous TEDx speaker to someone who is now able to help us all address that fear. I love how he incorporated exercises and I will be using the lessons learnt in my day to day work life to help me with any future presentations.
Entertaining to read and full of great lessons to learn about public speaking.
I've attended one of his workshops and it was very enjoyable, but above all: very positive. Getting positive feedback. I am confident that anybody will benefit from this book and or workshop!
What a delight this book is! You really feel like you're on a journey towards mastering the complex world of presenting and are held securely by the hand by the author as he introduces you to presentation best practices and illustrates them with endearing anecdotes of his own presentation experiences. Each chapter contains an excellent sumary of the points spoken about and also includes exercises and reflections for improving your own performance. I also really liked the quotations at the beginning of each chapter. There are many presentation skills books on the market but this one is original and entertaining, highly recommended.
For every people who need to often speak in public, this book is full of good advises. Definitly a way to be more confident and be sure your public will be focus on what you have to said.
This is a great book, it is easy to understand and fun to read. There is a lot of information! It is one of the most complete books I have seen.
I decided I want to present more and give talks to people, this book will really help me with that. I am very sure of it. I can tell you one year later how much it helped me. I do not read books often so I need to focus on which one I will start, this book is priority one!
I have read most of it, but did not do the exercises yet and tried things. I will do that shortly. This is my guide the next months :).
Captivating from the beginning until the last page. This book not only helps to give impressive presentations, it also helps to boost confidence and is deeply inspiring. A must read for everyone who wants to give a presentation or who wants to improve the way they present themselves. This book is a real treat, due to the amount of humor and well chosen and inspiring quotes. Also a great gift idea for business relations, actually... a gift that keeps on giving! Chapeau Mark Robinson! #SpeakInspireEmpower
Insightful engaging and relevant This book reads extremely well and walks the potential presenter through the steps to create and deliver an engaging presentation. Using a good dose of British humour, the rationale behind each step is sound and clear. Mark presents a very insightful method that takes into primary consideration, the needs of your audience. I believe this couldn’t be more relevant in the modern era of information overload and digital distractions. Highly recommend!
A few months ago I was one of the enthousiastic members of Mark Robinson’s training ‘Powerful Presentations’. As wel as this traning as this book are very helpful to give powerful and memerable presentations, which makes you succeed in keeping the attention from the beginning till the end. And moreover, it makes sure that you will give your presentations with much more confident and pleasure! The training and his book are highly recommended!

I have done x100 of presentation. This book is definitely what you need to cover almost 90% of what is required to be effective presentator! It is a must read for all engineers and business consultants!
This book is a Must read if you want become a better public speaker!
I have always admired people who seem to be comfertable infront of a large audience and speak like they are in a personal conversation with you and making you feel you are involved in the presentation
with a few good steps you can do that to.. can't wait to put it into action!
Speak, Inspire, Empower is a great read if you are looking to create truly inspiring presentations. Furthermore, specific case-studies show how the author went through his own journey to become an expert in the field of presenting.
A great book! I never thought about the many things you can do wrong and by reading this I got a structure for a successful presentation, overcome a little fear and get complete confident with standing there in front of so many people. It’s fun that the author made it so easy to read and to apply next time I stand there on stage.
