Max Brand, one of America's most popular and prolific novelists and author of such enduring works as Destry Rides Again and the Doctor Kildare stories, died on the Italian front in 1944.
Third and final book in Max Brands Ronicky Doone series. Stand alone, doesnt reference or depend on prior stories.
The writing is good but the story never connects. Its a threadbare setup that goes on and on, elements added that never feel like stakes. Unlike the prior two adventures of Ronicky, this one doesnt feel like he needs to be caught up in other peoples business.
Best part is a character named Curley whos a fool and liar and something of a comic relief until he isnt.
