Ransley Thorpe and Albigard of the Unseelie—two soldiers on opposite sides of a supernatural war who keep stumbling across each other through history. Banter ensues, cocks are blocked, and clothing is repeatedly damaged.
USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.
A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.
That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.
I'm not sure what I expected. I actually read a couple of books later in the overall series and thought this would give me more insight into the friendship of Ransley and Albigard. I got some hints of their frenemies relationship, but no real insight as to why they continue to be in each others lives. Hopefully I'll get more from the rest of the series. I definitely did not see anything that hinted at the "homoerotic" subtext of their friendship mentioned in later books. Worth the read, but not if you're looking for any great revelations or insights.
I've heard of long time friends, but these two take that to a whole new level. They go beyond knowing each other for years - well they do, but far more years than you or I could ever hope to to match. I love the bantering and stuff that goes on between Ransley and Albigard and boy, am I looking for more books by this author.
i love albigard so much it hurts and i love rans and albigard's friendship and i love short stories and i love love loved the keeping score schtick and how they didn't even know each other's names... or at least rans didn't know albigards 😭😭😭 man oh man this is the best thing i've read in relation to the last vampire world i'm actually a little bit obsessed with this. i think this author exceeds at writing short stories and snippets like this, self-contained things with clear intentions. pulls it off SO WELL...
Each chapter covered a different time period where Rans and Albigard interacted. Entertaining and informative but brief overall so I didn't get too enmeshed in what was going on. It was interesting to read about their history. (short book = short review)
