I'm often quite sceptical of books like this, but James' plain and simple cover actually hides a wealth of plain and simple good and useful information about getting some calm into your daily life.

As someone who has done all sorts of meditation, yoga, change your thinking and exercise classes over the years, who has searched for the meaning of life in every possible nook, cranny and crevice and read a small number of very good and way too many very bad books on the subject, I feel that I am qualified to offer an opinion on this topic.

We all want to lead a peaceful, happy life where we manage our stresses with grace and aplomb and have relationships that hum along with love, respect and kindness. We also all know that that's not possible all of the time.

When the wheels fall off, having something that reminds you of all the positive, practical things you can do to right your life, can be a true blessing. When you're in the midst of turmoil it's often hard to remember to breathe deeply, to observe your thinking or to lay of judging yourself and others.

Create Calm is that little something that could be your way back.

It covers everything that we can do to ourselves when stressed. And in bite-sized, easy to read, sensible, do-able sections, James reminds us of all the things we can do right now to build up our resilience and create calm.

Some really good reminders and strategies on how to create calm in your busy life.

Listened to this via audiobook. Found the narrator's voice really calming.

Listened during COVID-19 lockdown so it came at a good time.

Some of the practical tips that I have implemented include:

- a glass of water first thing after I wake
- less alcohol (seems obvious but I have felt a lot better since I cut back)
- less perfectionism
- smile and laugh more.

It's so interesting that since social restrictions were put in place to minimise the spread of COVID 19, I have felt more energised and more connected to family and friends, despite not actually seeing them. And, I have been reading more - which is always good :)

I really enjoyed this book. She heavily referenced the works of others and I think it was a lovely general summary of key strategies to create calm in our lives.

If you're looking for an audiobook to soothe you, then look no further!! Not only does the narrator/author have an amazingly calming voice, this is also full of amazing little tips and tricks to help you cope with all that modern life throws your way!

I listened to the audioversion of this book from my local library and it was a really informative and helpful listen. How we are all feeling more connected thanks to the internet, but feeling more isolated than ever before and how we deal with that to improve our mental wellbeing and see us through those darker days when we all think the world is against us.

There are tips on sleep, breathing exercises and techniques to try and just finding out what works for you. I liked that the advice was 'sensible' and could easily be tried by everyone and it just made me feel calmer knowing that we're all going through the same things and how the internet especially distorts our view of the world Time to focus inwards rather than out!!

I bought this book on a whim one Thursday night before the next day's fertility treatment. In my two week wait waiting to find out if I’m pregnant, I thought this book would be good to read during my twenty minutes of morning zen (long story!) or when I was feeling stressed. It has a lot of really good techniques, suggestions, explanations for what disrupts our calm, what we can do to get back our calm, and how we can maintain it. I can definitely see myself referring back to it a lot, and I’ve already started putting into practice some of the suggestions. Alas, I finished it before the two week wait was up - eek!

This audio shouldn't be listened to while driving! The narrator speaks in a very soft, breathy voice, like a guided meditation CD, that just about puts you to sleep. She talks about different things that can help calm anxiety or worry, like different breathing exercises. You'll probably get more out of the book by reading it, as I didn't find her voice made much of an impression, so I can't really remember much of it.

A nice, gently-narrated audiobook that I happened upon in the Library app at a particularly stressful time. As the author points out, many of these techniques are things I've heard lots of times before, but it is nice to have them all in one place. It would be good to have in hard copy to flip through at stressful moments.

Super simple book with lovely chapters that I’m sure will dive back into, if I need a quick recap. I do wish it dived deeper into most of the concepts and how I could apply them to my life. There are a lot of concepts covered too! But overall, it was an easy read.

nothing overly groundbreaking about this book, as I felt like I already knew 95% of the content. nonetheless, it was well written, an easy read, and a good summary of the range of things we can do to "create calm".
