Akart doesn’t disappoint. When the author first announced his intentions to write a virus hunters series, I was less than enthusiastic. After the “Pandemic” series, what was there to add? Of course, that was before Covid 19 and the real global pandemic. The series follows Dr Harper Randolph of the CDC as she investigates the origin, mode of transmission, and treatment of diseases capable of causing a global pandemic. This story is set 10 years post Covid 19, but it seems strangely familiar. The author says that his intention is not to scare the wits out of you, rather, he wants to scare the wits INTO you. I say: Mission Accomplished!

As we have been embarking on surviving a real life pandemic, Author Bobby Akart has been hard at work on this, his newest series...Virus Hunters. He had been dropping hints and posting Easter eggs on his social media pages long before the first Covid-19 victims became ill. No one was exactly sure what it would be about, only that it had to do with a virus. The long anticipation of the release of this first book has been quelled as I sat and devoured what I feel is going to be one exciting story in true Akart style.
As with previous books by this author, it is immediately apparent that it was a well thought out story line. The research? In depth, which I have come to expect from this author. There is no guessing, there is no fabrication. There are scientific facts woven through the story which makes this even more frightening.
Virus Hunters is the story of those behind the scenes. The investigators who go above and beyond the call of duty to collect the data and report back to the CDC where it will all be collected, analyzed and the virus identified.
At the start of this book, we are taken to a faraway location, where unbeknownst to an unsuspecting civilization, lies a deadly secret. One that will soon be unleashed on the world and which will cause sickness, heartbreak and death. This silent killer is what Dr Harper Randolph and the dedicated investigators are searching for as an outbreak of the unknown source is slowly spreading and taking no prisoners. It kills fast. It leaves behind...questions…
This is a book of our times right now. It is gripping, poignant and had me riveted from the first chapter. If you love a book filled with scenes that are action packed, detail oriented, has memorable characters that are well written(some likeable and a few...not) and will have you squirming in your seat at times, then you have got to check this one out!

Bobby Akart has always been great at ripping stories from the headlines, but Virus Hunters is absolutely his most exciting and current stories he has ever written. While Bobby was writing Virus Hunters the world was experiencing a new and deadly explosion of an almost exact virus and not surprising from the same place Bobby foresaw his virus coming from.

From Mount Everest in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China to Sin City, Las Vegas, Mr. Akart takes you on a journey that proves to be a road map for the Corona virus path that it has taken to come to America and the rest of the world.

As Dr. Harper Randolph of the CDC is risking her own life to help third world countries that are being ravaged by many well know virus, such as SARS, H1N1, AIDS, Spanish flu and even from the guns of civil wars, she has no idea she will be called back to the United States to combat a new and even more deadly disease.

Dr. Harper and her team from CDC are sent to Sin City, Las Vegas, where the next bet may well be will a person live or die. It seems some people don’t want Harper or her team to attempt to let America and then the world know that their future may well be short lived, but just as hope springs eternal and Dr. Randolph starts to notify the city of Las Vegas and the Government, Bobby does what Bobby does best and leaves you screaming “not another cliff hanger.”

Guaranteed I will be back for Book 2 as Harper faces an unknown future, just as we face a new and unknown world. Again Bobby Akart shows that he is still the King of TEOTWAWKI!!!!

This book started out strong with the events on Everest, Africa, & China but then deteriorated into a soup of stereotypical characters whose actions were predictable. I was hoping to learn more about viral epidemics against the back drop of politics. Instead, the science took a back seat to pretentious melodrama.

This book take place in 2130 many years AFTER Covid-19. So when you read it , it sound so familiar and reliable. I liked the way it was staged. It sure looks like a trough research has been done in order to make it reliable. Unfortunately as with all authors, that don't want to waste a good research it led to too long and detailed descriptions in various points ( Like detailed description of how a Poker game is conducted in the Casino) .
Any way you can skip those descriptions and you are being left with a fast moving book. now I need to continue with the 2nd part=2nd book .
It seems to be 1 book of about 800 pages divided into 3 books.

Rubbish

Over confident arrogant egotistical specialist Doctor that’s of course married to the perfect politician, that spends her time saving the poorest of the poor but doesn’t bother to show that same caring attitude towards others, blah blah blah. Such a disappointment from Mr. Akart, obviously rushed to take advantage of the recent crisis plaguing our world. WAY to much filler and very little killer. I disagree with an author that uses three chapters to explain a detail that at the very best can be explained in a paragraph, it’s simply poor writing. The story, if there is one, will carry itself and doesn’t require that level of explanation.
Bottom line is I read the first 25%, skimmed the second 25%, glanced at another 10% and then dumped this waste of time.

Bobby Akart has once again taken the phrase "Ripped from the headlines" to a new level. Set 10 years post China flu, this latest series will take you on a ride literally around the world as this new threat comes to life. The protagonist is one Dr. Harper Randolph, a CDC doc who spends her days helping contain the Ebola battle in Africa.

As things start to unravel here in the US, she's summoned back to hit the ground running on this new threat. Unfortunately for us(and her) there seems to be a group out there who doesn't want her to succeed!

One of the things I love the most about an Akart series is, it's not just a thriller, it' also s a learning tool. His level of detail and research is rare in today's age of cranking books out for nothing more than download numbers. You will learn how these "Virus Hunters" or medical detectives suss out a disease and put a plan together, along with everything that it takes to get the job done, despite interference from "outside".

Follow along as we learn about Dr. Randolph and her team as they race to identify, track and help the country deal with this new and devastatin

Exciting

This is an amazing new series! Bobby Akart has done it yet again with his storytelling, research and character development. It is always a pleasure to read one of Mr. Smart novels, I can never put them down once I start, I need to know what happens next. I enjoyed this first book and look forward to finding out if Dr. Randolph drop kicks the sitting President on his butt, but I further can't wait to find out what she and her team from the SEC do to help the world

Read it if you dare!

What a scary book to read in this day and age. Is it really fiction or fact? I don't know. But I do know that it was an interesting read and the characters were really good. I definitely recommend it.

Hard to read because of the pandemic but it is an interesting read that is set 10 years after COVID-19. There is a new killer virus and the CDC is trying to determine what it is, how it works, how it is different from COVID. Action packed and a very quick read. Love Bobby Akart

I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that most reviews on Goodreads are pointless gushing rubbish from fanboys/girls. This specific book is in no way deserving of 5 stars with so many issues. Poor central Mary Sue characters (and incredibly condescending to go with it) , lots of unnecessary padding, an over inflated view of certain American organisations, a significant anti china bias and worst, a not particularly good plot.

Once again, Bobby's work highlights a significant problem plaguing the world.

Dr. Harper Randolph and her capable assistant, Elizabeth Becker, work for and report to Dr. Berger Reitherman, the director of the Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services, CSELS, at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. Harper's husband, Congressman Joe Mills, is on a fast track to Presidency of these United States. If this pandemic leaves a country to lead.
Now you have met the players in half of this series. The other half is a mindless organism bent on surviving by any means necessary, an airborne virus that resists any method of control and which is so contagious that being within 10 feet of an infected person can spread the virus to you. The current home of the wannabe pandemic is split between China and Las Vegas. Harper and Becker are leading the battle in Nevada while China is denying all requests and jailing or executing anyone with knowledge of the problem.
I wish I could tell you more about this population thinning solution to overcrowding, but it remains elusive on the other side of a cliffhanger. The end of June will bring solutions and confusions as the story continues. Bobby Akart's characters are larger than life guides through the maze left by the main character in the series - the virus. As we learn more about this character, the other members of the cast are no slouches when TSHTF, and perform their roles admirably. No strike that - there is no admiration, admit instead that their performance is tainted with extreme fear. They know what their foe is capable of and are guided by this knowledge - the short time mankind has led the world to the brink may be about to end. Humanity could become a footnote in Earth's history - a brief description of mismanagement, greed and avarice.
Outstanding storyline, amazing characters, a deadly foe and a timeline with a fast approaching endpoint bring this series introduction to a must-read status and pre-orders for the middle of the trilogy through the roof! Getcha some before the virus gets us all.

There's no need to fear.....

I have been a major fan of Bobby Akart's since his first book. My reviews are not what the book is about but why I like it. I like the storyline of this new series. It is entertaining. Fast paced. As always book one introduces us to the who, what and why.

My problem with this first book of the series:
#1 The characters Joe and mostly Harper-- especially Harper is so over the top. She is unbelievable, unlikable and especially- too perfect. I am surprised she doesn't have a brace to hold her head up. The first 25% of the book was just singing Joe's and Harper's accolades. The perfect couple, the ideal, moral and most thoughtful and upstanding people ever.
#2 Parts of the book was more textbook than storyline. Too wordy.
#3 A question. Of ALL of the people in the world....why is it Harper the one who takes it upon herself to save the world?
#4 Harper judgmental attitude. Example: "She wanted to ask the GM why, in his concerted opinion, did more people take their lives in Las Vegas than anywhere else in the nation. Any guesses, Mr. Wallace? Could it be the loss of their life savings? Maybe dropping the equivalent of their mortgage payment at the blackjack table? Maybe it was the dad who gambled away his paycheck before he bought his baby’s formula?" (My opinion...in this case suicide was the cowards way out of not taking responsibility for being a village idiot. )

I hope in Book 2 the author makes Harper a normal person. Smart yes. But normal, real. She needs to stay out of phone booths and leave her cape at home.

Do I recommend this book? Yes. Definitely. It is entertaining and yes it frustrated me with the over theatrics. 3.5 but giving 4 stars. My opinions aren't what others think. Read the book. Post your review. Let's compare.

I guess a post-apocalyptic novel during a pandemic is fitting if not a little opportune. I generally like stories that build the tension and concern and for the most part this does that, though at times, it seems to be a bit too wordy trying to educate us. I also must confess that I did find most of those details of value. I've also been critical of this author's tendency to inject too much right wing policy in his stories but this one is largely free of that and based on Prince George's age, is a bit in our future. I find Harper the most difficult to like as she seems to be very full of herself to the point of not being that good of a member of a team. I was very shocked that someone with her credentials while in Las Vegas investigating the scene of a possible contagion, stripped off her gloves etc and discarded them in a receptacle by the elevator. That would be a huge issue in how she handles potentially contaminated items. There were a very few editing issues (like what instead of want) but nothing very distracting. Over all, this kept me entertained and I look forward to the next in the series and hope Harper gets a little better grounded and revisits policies on discarding PPE.

Good reading

I’ve always liked Bobby Akart’s writings and this is a good novel, the first in the series.
I’m not sure I agree with his premise that during Covid 19 the CDC could of prevented some of the panic and that they closed things down too soon. If anything I believe the US should of closed down sooner but the WHO and the CDC weren’t given the best information from China about the beginnings of the virus. And people are going to panic no matter how thoughtful they put a warning out. It’s human nature unfortunately and I don’t believe one agency is to blame for it.
The rest of the story is very interesting. Showing how the CDC goes about learning how to contain a virus, discovery of patient zero, contact tracing and all the other steps they get through to find out where a virus originated from and how it spread is informative. His characters are relatable and could be people I’ve known who work with WHO and the CDC. Overall it’s a good story and I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series despite my disagreement with one premise.

Virus Hunters 1

Another superb story from Bobby Akart. This book about the people involved with searching out & trying to find the causes/sources of germs/viruses that can kill & disable us humans. Virus Hunters is so relevant to our world right now, i lost my Dad to Covid. His death & the thousands of others could have been reduced if the Chinese had been open & informed the world about what happened. With Governments, Rouge States & Terrorists able to obtain & study/genetically alter viable viruses always a threat. Global warming is melting Glaciers, both polar regions & thawing permafrost areas, hundreds & possibly thousands of viruses will be released. Not one of these will be known to us, we will need the CDC & others more than ever. The story has some great characters & some arrogant idiots as well, all in all, a super read. Keep it up Bobby.

All too real

I'm a big fan of medical thrillers, pandemic and post apocalypse books. My favorite parts are the beginning phase of any disaster concept as they make me more aware of possibilities. This book is all too real with respects to our current pandemic and the realities of what we are all living through. I love following the steps a virus takes to spread, how mundane actions can increase the spread and how difficult it is for health officials and epidemiology official to track the spread. This book delves deep into the process rather than skipping straight to the survival parts or glossing over the very complicated beginnings of how an illness becomes a global pandemic. Must read for anyone who likes apocalyptic scenario books!

This is a new fictional series with built in reality. What if there was a hybrid virus more deadly than even Coronavirus? They don't start as pandemics. They start with one person and increase exponentially. A lot of big medical terms and in this one. Politics plays a big roll. It starts in China with a goat herder. Dr. Zeng finds his death quite odd and starts to investigate. The virus spreads to Mt. Everest and from there, Las Vegas. Dr. Harper Randolph is an epidemiologist for the CDC. She is lead on the Las Vegas investigation. So why is the President trying to stop her? The more incidences of the virus there are, the more intense the action becomes.

its amazing how quick he was able to pop in a few edits and make it so Timely to the Covid ou(and setting the events of the books 10 years latter. its also crazy how the "virus is set up to "kill" in a method is earyily similar to how covid attacks the body (not the ACE thing the Citocon strom attacking multiple organ systems at once if I didn't know he had written most of these books well before public knowledge of covid10 hit the news back in december of 2020I would aumune he'd have based the books off of it. I hope the here more from happer and her crew especailly from a bio terriorism front or

Fact into Fiction

This book gives the reader a look behind the scenes when a new virus appears. It can be mistaken as known viruses, such has a cold. The path it makes can break into multiple directions before it has done enough damage to draw the attention of medical personnel and researchers. There is frustration in trying to find the source, while trying to understand the life of the virus. Finally, the role of politics attempting to attempting to like like they know whats happening and creating a panic that could possibly spread the deadly virus faster and further. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment!

Too real

Bobby Akart has a great talent for taking his readers into the middle of his stories. The first series that I read was Yellowstone. It is so realistic I kept finding myself checking the news to make sure that it wasn't really happening.
While we are currently in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic this book, which takes place 10 years after covid-19, so 10 years from today, is also extremely realistic in the discovery and handling of yet another unknown virus. Now I have to purchase the second book in the series because I am sitting on the edge of my seat. I recommend this series and this author, and all his other books.

Interesting, I guess?

First, I want to say that I am a fan of this author and is why I read rhe book. I found myself skipping pages especially, while being introduced to the heroine? It was too much mushy greaness in that intro. It took almost the whole book
Beginning was exciting, interesting making you want more. The chapters taking place in Tibet and china were the best ones. There too much "fluff" not much action..which we usually get from this author. Will I read book 2?
Maybe but i need a break from all the talking.

Interesting CDC procedural

This first book was far more procedural than other books I have read by B.A. it was interesting to see how thoroughly a disease is examined by the CDC. Just as interesting was the glimpse of China's response to the same disease. The American president appears to be taking over the CDC's investigation by the end of this book. Harper and her politician husband, Joe, are both fascinating and admirable. Let's see how the story progresses in Book 2 of the series.

#1 Virus Hunters

I would like to give this book a rating of 10 but since I can't, it will have to be a 5. Bobby Apart has definitely got another winner in this book! Our main characters are Harper and Becker, who are very well thought out and will written. Also very typical of this author, we have a cliff hanger at the end of our story! Soooo, Mr Akart, I really need the second book in this series....yesterday!! 😇

Pandemic?

What a timely book in light of what's going on right now with COVID-19! Is Mr. Akart a visionary or prophet? No, but he writes a damn good book. He understands what will become of the world if they don't stand up and do something now. No one saw the Coronavirus coming, and now no one will be able to forget it. Now I just need to have the patience to wait for Volume 2 to become available for download.

Excellent story. Gripping, especially in light of the current circumstances of dealing with the Covid-19 issues. I feel that Bobby Akart's writing skills have reached a new level. I have enjoyed all of his previous novels, but there seems to be a new level with this book. I highly recommend it, although it is not for the fainthearted. We may be a handshake away from destruction. People - wash your hands.

As we're all living through the Covid-19 pandemic now, this book really hits home. This is about a different virus but we see how finding the source is important, how it can spread so quickly, the government screw-ups and how secrecy hinders getting the word out, stopping the spread and finding out exactly what kind of virus this is. Bobby Akart has done it again, another page turner. Looking forward to the rest of the series

Living history

This story is just what is needed at this time. People forget or just don't realize what a difficult job the doctors and researchers in the CDC have. I really liked the characters and the way the story moves between them around the world. I'm glad I've got the second book already on my tablet. If you enjoy reading James Rollins, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child and Matthew Reilly you'll like these books.
