It is rare to love every book in a collection, but I did in this one! From authors I love, such as Susanne Bellamy and Shirley Wine, to new authors I had never read and plan to read more books from, this is a collection not to be missed. And exotic locales, too!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fun, multi-author collection of contemporary-romance novellas

These are the 10 novellas contained in this collection:

Ten Days in Paradise by Annie Seaton
Second Chance Cafe by Susanne Bellamy
Matched on Maui by Kris Pearson
The Language of Wolf by Sofia Grey
Sweet Summer Nights by Anne Kemp
Ripe for the Picking by Ebony Jean
One Summer Night by Shirley Wine
Saving Tylor by Gudrun Frerichs
Lake of Dreams by Nicki Edwards
Stealing Home by Taylor Danae Colbert

Each of these romance novellas is a standalone, HEA story with no cliffhangers. The ten different authors represented in the collection are from many different countries, so reading this collection is like a fun trip abroad without leaving the comfort of home. My personal favorite of the ten stories is the werewolf tale.

TEN DAYS IN PARADISE

This story has a classic, ever-popular plot. After Jane’s groom cheats on her, she calls off the wedding and sets off, by herself, on her honeymoon, a sailing holiday in the South Pacific, where fate sends her a man far more ideal than the one she left behind.

This romance is a lot of fun. I liked the protagonists, and I enjoyed the exotic setting. I had never read this author before, but I will definitely look for more of her romance novels.

SECOND CHANCE CAFE

This story is an adorable homage to the classic Disney film, “101 Dalmations.” The two lovers are brought together when their dogs fall in love.

This story is very sweet and cute, and animals lovers, especially, will enjoy it.

MATCHED ON MAUI

This is another classic, ever-green plot: Meeting Mr. Right while on vacation in gorgeous Hawaii. Emmy is from New Zealand, and Carter is from California, USA. The main thing they have in common is that they are both committed to their family-owned vineyard. Can this international romance last, or will it turn out to be nothing but a vacation fling?

This story is very romantic, with touches of humor. An enjoyable read.

THE LANGUAGE OF WOLF

This standalone novella is part of the Snowdonia wolf shapeshifter series. Even if you are not a fan of paranormal romance, this paranormal love story has an exciting and rather unique premise. While they are both temporarily in New Zealand, Ellie, a Welsh wolf shifter, meets and recognizes instantly that Serge is her true wolf-shifter mate. Unfortunately, Serge is a Russian soldier who is only temporarily in NZ and, worse than that, neither speaks each other’s language. They have to use a translation app on their phones to communicate in person but, beyond that, they are able to communicate psychically through the medium of dreams, in which language is no barrier.

I’ve only read the Alpha and Omega wolf-shifter series by Patricia Briggs and, of course, I’ve been exposed to the werewolves in the Twilight series through the books themselves and the movies. But, even so, I can’t claim to be a big fan in general of shifter romances. Having said that, however, I actually really enjoyed Ellie and Serge, and I especially liked their romantic, ESP dreams. Apparently dream communication between fated mates is a trope that runs throughout the series of books that this story is part of. I will definitely seek out other books from this series to read.

SWEET SUMMER NIGHTS

This story offers another favorite romance trope: friends become lovers. When Harper comes home on a surprise visit, after many years away while attending veterinary school, in order to celebrate the Fourth of July with her family in Maryland, USA, she encounters two surprises: Her parents are gone, and her childhood best friend, Wyatt, currently all grown up and a hunky firefighter, is very much present. Harper is stunned by the romantic feelings Wyatt inspires, which she never expected to experience with him.

This is a sweetly sexy romance with lots of heart between two attractive, sympathetic protagonists.

RIPE FOR THE PICKING

This story involves two ever-popular romance themes: opposites attract and a fake fiancé. Leesa is recently divorced and is living with her parents at their berry farm while working at a local tea shop in a small farming town in Australia. When faced with encountering her ex at their upcoming high school reunion, Harry, a mysterious big-city attorney who recently became her neighbor, is a perfect fit for keeping a face-saving buffer between her and her ex, when Harry agrees to play the part of her fake fiancé.

This is a fun read with plenty of intriguing story questions that kept me flipping the pages. I also very much enjoyed the Australian setting.

ONE SUMMER NIGHT

This is another romance set in New Zealand. Evie is in her late 20s and has spent the past eight years caring for her father after he had a stroke. In his will he specified that she should immediately sell the family home she had lived in her whole life. She’s very sad at losing her adored father, but she’s also ready to begin a new chapter in her life. She hopes to do it with a man she met online in a chat room. The plan is to connect with him for the first time in person at the waterfront bar, Murphy’s Irish Pub, in the fictional town of Katherine Bay, and spend a romantic vacation with him.

Magnus is a cyber crime expert who’s been burned by love and life and is quite cynical, but his protective instincts are immediately roused by the beautiful woman he meets at Murphy’s. She has clearly been stood up and is drinking too much to drown her sorrows. Though he is very attracted to her, purely as an act of platonic altruism, he takes the poor drunken woman home with him since she is unfit to drive and has no place to stay. In the process, he saves her from a cyber criminal who has targeted her with a scam.

Magnus is a great guy, but Evie is so naïvely careless with both her physical and financial safety that it was hard for me personally to find her sympathetic or to believe she would be a good match for Magnus.

SAVING TYLER

This is a story torn from the headlines. Sophie lives in New Zealand and, due to the pandemic and her mother’s expensive nursing-home fees, she goes broke. To earn vitally needed income, she takes a job caring for Tyler, a disfigured, injured Afghanistan veteran who also suffers from PTSD, as well as his young, orphaned niece.

This story has an HEA, but there’s lots of heart-rending tragedy along the way.

LAKE OF DREAMS

Erin is a 39-year-old New Zealand woman who is single and childless. She is fortunate enough to be in remission from ovarian cancer, but she is very sad because she is now physically unable to have children. In addition, on top of her own cancer trauma, her mother recently died from lung cancer. In order to get away from the scenes of so much personal suffering, Erin impulsively decides to visit Canada, where as a teenager she spent one of the happiest periods of her life as an exchange student. Once in Canada, she is reunited with Jesse, a boy she had a huge crush on back then. He is now all grown up and a very attractive single dad who works as a wilderness guide.

Readers who enjoy stories about cancer survivors who find true love will enjoy this brave, older-than-usual heroine. Also, the Canadian setting is quite enjoyable to experience.

STEALING HOME

As far as I can tell, this story is set in an actual place called Baycrest, in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, USA. Josie had a huge crush on Cole in high school, for his own sake and also because he saved her from the results of a near-fatal car accident. She is currently the owner of a restaurant, and she hasn’t seen him for years until he moves back to town after a forced early retirement from professional baseball due to a career-ending injury.

This is a light romantic drama with sympathetic romantic protagonists and a believable HEA.

Ten summer-themed romance stories from multiple authors! Short but fun stories, I’m reviewing my favorites (a few were just not my cuppa).

The Language of the Wolf by Sofia Grey

5 STARS

This is a novella set in the Snowdonia Wolves series which I have read and enjoyed immensely! While this can be read as a stand-alone, after reading this you will want to pick up the others too!

Ellie is a wolf shifter visiting New Zealand where she meets Serge, a solider temporally placed in NZ, who lives in Siberia. Although they instantly recognize each other as soulmates, their geographic distance, plus language barrier creates complications...or does it?

If there is ever a time we need to get lost in a fantasyland, this is it! How fun is it to watch how Ellie and Serge try to communicate with one another and discover a way to be together even though they are miles and miles apart.

Besides the romance, the wolf family pack is adorable and supportive, again, something so pleasant to read in these troubled times.

Throughly enjoyed this!

Paradise by Annie Seaton

5 stars

When life hands you lemons...well, Jane unfortunately has a boat load full! Wedding cancelled, mother totally unsupportive, savings sunk and gone? Yes, Jane has her share of troubles!

Linc Martin too has troubles, mainly a boss (the president of a small island off Australia where Linc works) who feels he just HAS to get married for his image...and if not soon, the president will find a “suitable partner” for him.

How these two meet and the adventures that follow are a fun, relaxing way to spend a sunny afternoon, even if you’re not on an island Down Under!

————————————————-

Second Chance Cafe by Susanne Bellamy

5 stars

Who doesn’t love a romance with adorable pets involved? What a great way to meet someone over a shared love of animals?

Julie is passionate about placing animals in loving homes, saving them from being euthanized. She runs a coffee van to supplement the shortfall in government funding for saving animals.

Jack is new to the area and his dog Bear eagerly greets Julie’s German Shepard, Anna. Human introductions are made and she and Jack begin a conversation surrounding her efforts to save as many pets as possible, placing them in good homes.

Jack sees Julie’s passion for animals and offers some suggestions introducing himself as a receiver, helping to improve the sale value of a pub in financial difficulty.

But Jane is skeptical. Is Jack all that he seems? Is Julie ready to trust someone after just recently getting burned?

This is another fun afternoon read!

————————————————-

Matched on Maui by Kris Pearson

5 stars

Who doesn’t love a story set on Maui? Talk about a fun story getaway! And describing the bike ride down Mount Haleakala? Brings back some wonderful memories from years ago! Throw in some romance and...yeah! This is a great summertime short story!

————————————————-

Sweet Summer Nights by Anne Kemp

4 stars

Fun but a little light...maybe a little too “high school reunion’ish” for me...but a sweet old-friends-to-lovers story. Not a bad story, just not really my thing.

————————————————-

Stealing Home by Taylor Danae Colbert

4 stars

Fun and light, another “reunion” type story but with a sports twist. Enjoyable with engaging characters!

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of Romancing the Summer, however, this is my honest opinion.

Romancing the Summer
10 Sweet Summer Reads

An anthology to read all at once or to savor one story at a time. This collection of stories will provide me with stories from favorite authors and give me the chance to meet some new writers and sample their way with words. I can see reading one story before bed to provide sweet dreams. That said, I have read two of the stories so far and found them delightful.

The first story I read was by Kris Pearson and took me back to Hawaii – a place I went fifty-two years ago. I was sixteen at the time and love was definitely in the air…if not for me then for others I saw while there for a few days. I could totally relate to Emmy’s worry that starting a holiday romance with a man who lived halfway around the world really didn’t make sense and yet…the chemistry! I also REALLY want the author to write a story about Carter’s brother “Doc” – oh my!

The second story I read was by Shriley Wine and I truly felt sorry for Evie. Poor woman had spent years caring for her father and was finally free only to find out the person she met online was…well…not worth it at all and yet if she had not gone to meet him she would not have met Magnus and that WOULD have been a shame.

Both stories were quick and easy to read and left a smile on my face. I can hardly wait to read the other eight and am looking forward to reading every one of them in the very near future!

Thank you to one of the authors for the ARC – This is my honest review.

"Susanne Bellamy - Second Chance Cafe - I really enjoyed this short and sweet romance. It had such a lovely feelgood vibe to it, I had a smile on my face throughout. Julie's love for her animal shelter shone through and I completely understand her passion. I loved Jack's character and the way he went out of his way to help Julie."

"Kris Pearson - Matched on Maui - chemistry at first sight. Our leading man was extremely forward, not sure I'd be comfortable with someone as forward as him, but it worked for Emmy and Carter. I enjoyed taking a trip around Maui with these two, maybe I'll get there one day. I liked the serendipity of their respective careers and was very happy with the ending."

"Annie Seaton - Ten Days in Paradise - fake fiancé turns into true love. Another sweet and enjoyable love at first sight romance set in a beautiful island location that I want to visit myself. I liked how the two characters saved each other from their respective situations."

I'm loving the short romances in this collection and am looking forward to reading the rest of the anthology.

Four stars for a novella that was AWESOME!!!
I was asked to read an ARC copy of The Language of the Wolf, by Sofia Grey.
I'm so glad I did. I have a new Book Boyfriend!!

If Serge doesn't steal your heart, then. . . . . .
Well, it doesn't matter he stole Ellie's and that's what's important.
A wolf knows their Mate the minute they see them, and Ellie and Serge have spotted each other over the busy market place. But circumstances mean they have a way to go before they get their HEA.
No drama, just a straight up honest shifter romance.
I loved every moment of it! and maybe we'll get to see more of these two further on in the series?

I could just imagine these two running their conversations through a translator so they could converse. It was such an easy story to imagine in my head, with so many of Ms Grey's favorite places showing up.

Nice Beachy Read Box Set

This is a fun collection of novellas perfect for summer. Locations take place from an Australian island to Maui to the wilds of Canada and more. There are familiar tropes, of course, like fake fiance, friends to lovers, and love at first sight. As is typical in a multi-author collection, the quality of the stories does vary, but with ten stories to choose from, if you don't like one, you can just keep moving on until you find one you do! I actually thought the quality was decent enough in all of them, and a collection like this is nice when you just want a quick, light romantic read. By the way, this does have international authors, so you will see some variants of English.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I received an ARC from Kris Pearson in exchange for a honest review.

I really enjoyed reading 'Matched on Maui'. This story is about Emmy who is on a short stop over on Maui on her way back home to New Zealand and Carter who is on holiday with a couple of friends from USA. They have an instant attraction but Emmy doesn't want to get involved but Carter has a way of winning her over in the end. I would love to visit Hawaii and Kris has painted a wonderful image.

I can't wait to read the rest of the story in this collection.

While these are basically clean romances, many definitely allude to happenings going on.

Ten Days in Paradise © Annie Seaton
A fun, paradise, love at first sight romance. I loved the characters and their individual problems - fleeing a wedding and needing a fake relationship - and how they worked together. For a short story, there were some great moments with these two!

Second Chance Cafe © Susanne Bellamy
A sweet story with lots of animals and characters from different backgrounds coming together to figure things out for the animals. A fun and heartwarming story.

Matched on Maui © Kris Pearson
Two people from the opposite sides of the world discover each other in Hawaii and do some fun adventures together. Im adding them to my bucket list if I ever make it there! Great characters and some familial emphases in this story.

The Language of Wolf © Sofia Grey
I haven’t read many shifter books, but to my surprise, one of the couple I’ve read previously was the book previous to this one in the series! Crazy, but really added to this one as I knew a couple of the characters already. I enjoyed this unique twist with the language barrier.

Sweet Summer Nights © Anne Kemp
A sweet and summery best friends to lovers romance. I enjoyed the characters and their banter and the holiday theme.

Ripe for the Picking © Ebony Jean
Well this was an interesting one. There was a bit of intrigue and great characters and a fake relationship. I really enjoyed their escapades

One Summer Night © Shirley Wine
A whirlwind short story with a lot going on. There are warnings for us all with cyber security and meaningful moments to encourage us all to be real and choose people over life.

Saving Tylor © Gudrun Frerichs
I love reading military stories - especially when there is PTSD or other recovery for the vets. I think it’s something really important to be highlighted and I love thehooe that is presented when they work through their trials. I really liked the Covid19 angle and the uniqueness of the situations that thrust these people together.

Lake of Dreams © Nicki Edwards
I loved all of the outdoor time. Life moves on after loss (or a scare) and that can make the moments that much more vibrant. I enjoyed these characters and their rediscovery of each other decades later.

Stealing Home- Taylor Danae Colbert
I loved it. Sweet and short but full of meaning and heart. I loved the progressive flashbacks. The characters and their experiences were wonderful.

This was an eclectic mix of mostly Australian and New Zealand summer romances with a few American short stories. Some of the stories I liked more than the others. I didn't read the paranormal shifter one as I don't like those type of romances. Most of the stories were sensual, but a few were clean and sweet. There were second chances at love, new loves, best friends, fake relationships, animal rescues, rescues from cyber criminals, losses of parents or partners, former military with PTSD, cancer survivors, and COVID-19. Some of them ended with happy for now and others happily ever after, but they all had happy endings.

This is promising to be a wonderful collection of stories. I've started with a familiar author to me Annie Seaton.

Do you believe in love at first sight? These characters met by chance both in need of saving. She from her cheating fiance and he from someone determined to marry him off. A short fun tale as they enjoyed each other's company and realised their destiny.

Now I'm set to discover some new to me authors over the weekend.

Don't miss this awesome read

I was very taken with the talent of each one of these writers. Each story was completely different and entertaining, even a wolf shifter that was pretty sexy.

It's the perfect beach read. The stories are short but very complete in the storyline. I loved visiting all the many places and the wonderful characters.

Don't pass this one by.

What a joy and bargain this box set is - ten short sweet standalone romances, all of which were well written and entertaining. Was familiar with some of the authors, but some were new to me – pretty sure I’m going to end up buying more from most of the authors in this set now.
Standouts for me were:
Matched on Maui by Kris Pearson was just lovely with such beautifully depicted descriptions of Maui it felt like I was there.
Ten Days in Paradise by Annie Seaton – runaway bride to fake fiancée. Believable characters brought to life
The Language of Wolf by Sofia Grey – don’t usually read shifter romances, this was a pleasant surprise – really interesting characters and premise.
One Summer Night by Shirley Wine – starts with all too believable romance scam & runs you through the emotional gamut with the characters
Lake of Dreams by Nickie Edwards – second chance romance set in beautiful Canadian wilderness. Exciting and romantic

This is a wonderful collection of stories. We travel around the world with these couples to places like Maui and an island in Australia. There is something for everyone. This is a great summer beach read with hours of entertainment. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An anthology of 10 romantic short stories/novellas, mostly of one local meeting one vacationer. Fun and entertainment pure. The stories are all easy-to-read and close to Hallmark level. If you want entertainment without a serious plot, this is your way to find out about ten different authors and their works.
