This is a great introduction to the world of fragrances, perfume houses and their socio-economical place in our world. This book shifts between being personal, casual and historical. A very intriguing read for any perfum lover!
Jenny Lantz has a great way of describing fragrances which makes the book come alive as if olfactory notes are oozing from the pages. It is obviously so well researched and I enjoyed looking through all the references and footnotes at the end. This is a vast resource, for fragrance recommendations, for the history of perfume, for a deeper look into the commercial and artisinal aspects of the scent economy, the art of it, the noses, shop owners, fragrance houses and a glimpse into the facets most wouldn't even know of prior to reading this book.
It also ages very well. It came out in 2020, but reading it in 2024 it still feels extremely current, timely and on trend!
