Changing the world--or at least your corner of it--is easier than you think. With so much suffering in our communities and in the world, it can feel impossible to make an impact. "What good can I possibly do?" we ask. Amy Wolff, a busy mom and small business owner, often felt this way--and didn't feel qualified to connect and uplift others. But one day, after hearing about several suicides and suicide attempts in her community, she printed 20 yard signs with hopeful messages and anonymously placed them throughout her city. This small action sparked a global movement of encouragement, hope, and love, which spread to 50 states and 27 countries in just 18 months. Signs of Hope is an intimate collection of stories from Amy's personal life, as well as people impacted by the movement, about the power of hope and love in the midst of suffering. This book Signs of Hope is your catalyst for doing something today . . . because there's no perfect time to help others. The time is now.
What a simple, creative way to make a big impact on the community! Even though the author had a great idea, and includes info on how to be a part of her movement, I like that the book wasn't all about that. It was about looking for the needs in your particular area, assessing your own talents and skills, and thinking about how you can make a difference. Each us of have different strengths and different needs around us. It isn't about copying her, but finding your place and way to impact those around you. I also like that one of the examples she gave was of a movement that only lasted for a couple of years. You don't have to think of something that you can sustain forever - for however long you do something to help others, you've made the world a better place.
I received a paperback copy of this book from the goodread's giveaway. Amy Wolff starting leaving inspirational signs in her yard to help pick up people's spirits. Signs like "You are Enough" "Don't Give Up" or "you are not alone" and many others that send encouragement. Soon people around the states and other countries wanted to put signs in their yards. A nice book that shows how you can change the world with acts of love and encouragement.
This book rejuvenated my Hope for a better world! So many accounts of selfless acts across the country, I wished I could hear these happenings on the News programs daily! Make a difference, Be that difference! I was driven to get my set of signs to put out !
Amy offers some practice tips on how to use our influence to positively impact others. The real life examples throughout this book offer good, doable suggestions.
I enjoyed reading the beginning of “Signs of Hope” by Amy Wolff. I also thought that the mission was commendable and of great help to many people. However, I thought that the book was too repetitive throughout, and could have been summed up in just a few chapters.
A simple gesture (or sign) can change someone's world! And that is true. Amy Wolff tells her journey, from receiving a small idea that turned huge to managing a movement of encouragement... so much needed today! A great and inspiring read.
