Cómo avanzar en la adversidad: Descubra la fidelidad de Dios en tiempos difíciles (Charles F. Stanley Bible Study Series)

Rate this book
God has a plan and a purpose for you, and He can turn things to good regardless of the situation you face. These two key principles, rooted in Scripture and evidenced in the lives of Christians throughout the ages, must color the lenses through which you view adversity. In Advancing Through Adversity, Charles Stanley provides a new perspective on adversity. You'll learn which questions to ask and what lessons can be learned from adversity. Understanding God's role and bolstering your courage can help you advance through adversity rather than be overcome by it. The Life Principles Study Guides are perfect companions to Dr. Stanley's Life Principles Bible or for use on their own. They are a unique approach to Bible study, incorporating biblical truth, personal insights, emotional responses, and a call to action. Whether you use a study in a group or as an individual, it will help you get in touch with the Bible, God, and yourself.

Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.

Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.

However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.

Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”

Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.

Charles Stanley speaks and writes in clear, well-thought language and hits to the heart of what's on people's minds. I'm keeping this book to refer to at other times. While he touched on Job and mentioned Stephen, he focussed most on Paul which is fine but I wish he could have commented more on Job. Still a very good guide for anyone experiencing a difficult time.

A quote from p. 18: "However, while we cannot assume the Lord will keep us free of all harm, we can count on Him being with us in times of adversity, calamity, tragedy, hardship, and pain. In Psalm 23:4 we read. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."

This is a great 10 week study for a small group or a good Biblical study you can do on your own. Everyone faces adversity at some point in your life. How you react to it is key. I have learned to ask God to help me get through the adversity and to ask that God use the adversity for something good for me or God's glory. Excellent book on a very important subject.

I thought it was a really good book. Although it wasn't my book (it was a co-workers) that I read during down time. Because of this I didn't actually respond to the questions in the book. I wouldn't be opposed to doing this as a small group one day.
