Woman Evolve: Break Up with Your Fears and Revolutionize Your Life

Rate this book
Sarah Jakes Roberts, with life-lessons she’s learned and new insights from the story of Eve, shows you how the disappointments and even mistakes of your past can be used today to help you become the woman God intended.

Who would imagine being friends with Eve—the woman who’s been held solely responsible for the fall of humanity (and cramps) for thousands of years? Certainly not Sarah Jakes Roberts. That is, not until Sarah discovered she is more like Eve than she cares to admit.

Everyone faces trials, and everyone will mess up. But failure should not be the focus. Your focus should not be on who you were but rather the pursuit of who you can become. In Woman Evolve, Sarah helps you to understand that your purpose in life does not change; it evolves.

Making her mistake in the Garden of Eden, Eve became the first woman to deal with rebuilding her life in the aftermath of her past. Eve knew better, but she didn’t do better. With scriptural lessons and Sarah as your guide, you discover and work through

- past issues and questions that haunt you,
- seeing yourself as God sees you and trusting Him with who you really are,
- how to come out of darkness and pursue a real relationship with God,
- why it’s important to truly care for yourself,
- setting in motion the beautiful seed that God planted in you, and
- running to become who you were meant to be!

Your fears and insecurities may have changed how you viewed God, others, and yourself, but in Woman Evolve, you can breakthrough and use past mistakes to revolutionize your life. Like Eve, you don’t have to live your future defined by your past.

The first 2 chapters of Woman Evolve literally brought me to tears. I have been struggling recently, so much is going on, I have a lot of questions and things happening on the inside of me. But these first few chapters just gave me a whole lot of hope, permission to speak out what is happening on the inside instead of pretending like nothing is happening, It was very real, addressed real issues and struggles, it was raw, amazing to read, it was cathartic in a lot of ways. As I took a breathe through the tears and I was able to identify the things I really need to know in this season(committing to the work).
I didn't know what to expect when opened it, but what I experienced was way better than whatever I could have expected. Thank you for this Sarah Jakes Roberts , thank you for doing it regardless of what it cost you! For making sure that we commit to evolving!

This is a nice book with a very encouraging, Biblical message for women and I recommend it!

However, I was not prepared for her to dole out career advice and to use her own life as a “you-can-do-it!” example. Sarah Jakes Roberts trying to sell her readers the idea that she somehow built a career from scratch is laughable. Her dad (the great Bishop TD Jakes) is one of the wealthiest, most successful, most famous pastors on the planet and he has been for decades. She never ONCE in the entire book acknowledged that massive head start, nor the resources, unfettered access, unmerited favor and solid financial security she receives for merely being TD Jakes daughter. Therefore, all of the career advice and personal examples she gave completely fall flat for me.

I’m not saying she didn’t “work hard” (whatever that means). But, for example, at one point in the book she talked about wanting to hold a women’s conference but she “didn’t know how”. That’s ridiculous. I don’t know how to execute a woman’s conference. Sarah just needed to open her eyes and look around. Her dad consistently sells out *stadiums* for women’s and men’s conferences for years and she even speaks at some of them. (That’s just one example that annoyed me.)

But overall, I liked this book when she was talking about who we are in Christ and contrasting/comparing Eve with Mary. I also liked when she talked about moving on from mistakes. But all the tone-deaf career talk was a miss for me and ultimately why I gave it three stars.

I am greatful that Sarah Jakes Roberts wrote this book with openness and willingness to help others. Her voice, words, her anointing, and journey has helped so many people. As I look forward to reading this book where she shares her journey and insight within her life with us it gives me a feeling of contentment to wait because I know the meal is going to be great. It is coming from a woman with a beautiful aroma because as we all know she worked hard to get where she's at. Even if this book stinks (LOL) I will still have respect for effort. It's going to be such a pleasure to have this book in hand and in presence. I also know as my eyes gaze the pages, my lips read the words, and my mind take in the words I will embark on this journey that pastor Sarah has delivered to myself and so many others.

I received an advanced copy of this book and it is everything I expected and more. The in-depth conversation about Eve will open your eyes to understanding the misconception that although I’ve made mistakes, I’m still worthy of being used.

This book will help women all over the world.

I am super excited to read this book. Sarah’s amazing ability to tell a story and relate it to the events of the Bible , in the most modern and detailed manner - is what keeps me walking this journey with her!

Evolution is part of human nature however to have someone who has such understanding and wisdom to interpret the seasons and do so with an alignment to the word is pure joy!

I have no doubt that this book will hit home for millions of people !!

I wish I had chosen to read the hard copy instead of listening to the audiobook simply because there are so many journal worthy concepts & theories I wanted to write down.

In this book Sarah, forgives Eve and brilliantly uses the story of Eve biting the apple to explain the importance of looking past the worst mistakes we’ve made in our lives in order to see the blessings that developed from those mistakes.

Here are 5 of my fav concepts from the book:

1. 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞: There’s a difference between criticism and correction. Along with knowing your love language, we also need to know our correction language. This is the language other people use to correct us. It’s how we are able to receive correction. It is in our best interest to identify the best way we want to receive correction so that we don’t feel as if we’re being attacked or criticized.

2. 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥-𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞: Self-care is important, but soul-care paramount. Soul-care is the deep care of one’s self. It’s not about doing the superficial things that we do for ourselves such as getting our hair or nails done. Instead, it’s about doing the things needed for our emotional well being like prayer and meditation and journaling.

3. Identify our “ 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬”. There are certain situations in life that shifts our identity. Things that we haven’t forgiven ourselves for. But this book let us know it’s ok to release it. Let it go! Just as Eve did.

4. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬: Never compare yourself to others. When we compare we are measuring ourselves to someone else’s results when we didn’t have their start.

5. 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬: Be careful who you bond with. Some of our friendships are only healthy because we are sick. When you are sick you find someone that understands your disease and you bond over that pain.

“When Mary finally surrendered to the favor, she didn’t just sit in the place where the angel met her; she went to find Elizabeth. Why? Because favored women need other favored women….You have got to get in community with other women who see you worthy of celebration, not competition. If you don’t have a room like that, then you have to become the celebration in the room.”

I took a lengthy break from launching books until I saw this one! While the launch team is awaiting our copies the publishing company gave us access to 2 chapters and I’ve already devoured them twice.
A few nuggets from Sarah Jakes Roberts (T.D.’s daughter)

“Compassion for Eve hit me like a ton of bricks...my heart longing to go back to the garden to tell her that she still had value, promise, and worth. You’ve got some Eve in you.”

“There is so much more to you than the simplified perspective you have on your existence.”

“The moment the woman’s truth was uprooted and replaced with inquisition is the moment humanity took a sharp turn.”

Overthinker? Dealing with guilt or shame? Letting fear paralyze you? Faith and fear coexisting to cause indecision? This book might be for you. I can’t wait for the rest of my copy to get here! (and I've already ordered my hard copy)

*I had the pleasure of reading two chapters of an Advanced Readers Copy. I will update my review when I finish the book, if needed.

I was tremendously eager to read this book and to love it.

Have I read it? Yes, but skipped last 3 chapters

Did I love it? No.

I felt troubled by multiple things. Mainly how disjointed the book felt, which could be stemming from the fact that Sarah tried ever so hard to insert biblical references. I did find myself at times wondering what the chapter is actually about!

And I could not understand why she inserted the bits about COVID. It wasn’t like the book’s had already felt so diffused with trying hard to establish connections to “her interpretation” of Eve’s story, along with being to illusive in writing trying to accommodate both a biblical and a relatable essence ( which I don’t think they contradict each other, But how she did it, I just don’t like).

The book has good nuggets among many pages of what felt like a sermon.

It was far from what I expected and not in a good way. Disappointed ..

I wanted to love it

I went into reading this book with very high hopes. People absolutely love the Jakes clan so I was expecting a lot from this book that ultimately it just didn’t give me. While I love what Sarah is trying to do, the execution is terrible. The book is very all over the place for me and while reading it I kept thinking “who edited and reviewed this prior to publication?” It was honestly a struggle for me to finish this book and I’m an avid reader. In general I don’t even bother reading anything less than 300 pages because I breeze right through it but here I was struggle to read a book of 197 pages. Again, I love what she is trying to do. I do believe that we need to think about Eve as so much more than the person who caused humanity’s fall but this book just wasn’t it. This is the first book of hers that I read and after reading this, I don’t think that I will read any of her other books.

"Woman Evolve" is the mantra that every woman will have to answer as it relates to her identity and life. Even as moms, we see ourselves transitioning from one version of ourselves into the next version. We can't do that unless we are willing to evolve. Woman Evolve is a command, and this book will help women assess what they need necessary to grow. Identify the areas where you're stuck. Identify the things you need to do better. How do you create healthier habits and routines to evolve on the inside? The goal is that your outside begins to reflect what's happening on the inside.

The author shares personal stories in the book. The idea that the fears and insecurity in life that we think will change us forever in a negative way are often the things that help us rebuild our lives in powerful ways that we could have never imagined.

I am so excited about the launch of this jewel. Sarah Jakes Roberts been such an inspiration to me. Her transparency and words of wisdom has given me hope. In her Don't Settle for Safe book she gave her testimony in such a unique way. She provides strategies on how to overcome the spirit of fear, rejection and anxiety not only using the word of God but also sharing her personal experience. I felt so empowered listening to this audiobook. I enjoyed the character study of Eve and they ways she likened Eve to us all. I really enjoyed the real and nessessary uplifting of Eve which in turn is a message for us to be uplifted.

I am definitely going to purchase this book and work through all the journals prompts as I was not able to do them all and really feel it will add to the power of this book. Really enjoyed listening to this book it was like a sermon. Got to love Sarah Jakes Roberts.

I loved and appreciated this guide so much. I’m generally a reserved person (even when it comes to self-reflection, I tend to hold back and judge myself for past mistakes). This guide showed me that God values our vulnerability/nakedness and will not love us any less. There are so many great lessons in this book to support me on my healing journey. Can’t wait to attend the Woman Evolve conference this year 💕

Woman Evolve is a retelling of Eve’s story from a position of empowerment. This reimagining reinforces that what happened in the Garden of Eden was part of God’s plan and provision for humankind. Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts reminds us that passion fuels purpose and no devil in hell can stop God’s purpose for our lives. What are you passionate about? I can almost guarantee you it will be something you want to master or have been given a purpose to correct in this world.

Eve’s passion to correct her seed following her fall fueled her purpose to fulfill the promise God made to her. Eve’s focus on her seed provided her with the grit and grace to move forward despite her mistake.

“Eve eating from the fruit did not change God’s intention- it only changed how he would fulfill that intention” (SJR 8)

When God placed enmity between the woman and her seed he made sure it was a two way street in order to let the serpent know that what happened in the Garden of Eden is just the beginning and not the end. I love this quote from the text:

“I’ve met so many women who became hostile with themselves because of who they are or where they are in life. Hostility [enmity] is not uncommon to the woman’s journey, but that hostility is not being channeled properly. Stop being hostile with your past, body, potential, art and creativity. Take that hostility and start using it to dismantle the narrative of shame, regret, disgust, depression, and disappointment that plagues too many of us. God trusted the woman with hostility. Not so she could beat herself up, but so she could learn to stand up and become hostile with her true opposition” (SJR 70-71).

My takeaway is this: Woman of God, you are not defined by your mistakes. When God has made you a promise he will bring it to completion as long as you keep your focus on your seed. Use your pain to fuel your passion and your passion to birth your purpose. In other words, Woman, Evolve!

Listen.
Many times we read books and even take master classes to help us see who we really are.
Most of the time it works.
And sometimes for a short wile.
But this book is different.
I just love how Sarah put the picture of Eve in to the reader's mind.
And yes at first i was also like but eve is the very reason i as a woman happen to have moments of forgotten identity and all else we go through.
But this book tells a deeper story.
Sarah reveals how we are so much similar to Eve.
For example the serpent was able to make her second gues God's power and promise. And we all go through the same..
But the core of this book is to help us get to know our selved better, and have God work on these arears that keep us in terrible circles sometime.
It's also going to help us move away from stages of fear.
Because what God says is always true and perfect.
And we find our selves now second guessing all God say's to us and even thinking we are better where we are, when in truth God created us and He surely knows whats best for us.
I honestly can not wait to read the entire book and see God transform me inside out and see Him finally making me live in the image and truth of who He had created me to be.
So if someone wonders if this one is worth it.
Let me tell you YES!
It is.
This right here is a book that we have all been searching for.
This book is the one to active, restore and evolve us women.
To whom and what God really created us to be.
I encourge every women to get this one.
Cos this is it!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥🔥❤

Get ready to have your mascara run, your wig shifted and your edges snatched, as SJR takes us through a naked journey of self discovery, reflection, reckoning and transformation!!!

Reading an advanced copy of “Woman Evolve” and Sarah Jakes Roberts takes us on a transformative journey through the life of the be-trodden Eve. With an in-depth look into the life and the decisions of Eve, a mirror has been placed before the reader. I was able to see so much of myself in the life of Eve. Roberts poses a question towards the end of the book...”Do you have what it takes to throw another seed in the direction of your destiny?” That statement was both reflective and refractive. Roberts has penned a book that will transform the lives of the women, and maybe men, who will literally bruise the head of the serpent, who cunningly tricked Eve in the garden, and who tricks some of us now. Very well done! I can’t wait to have a hard copy that I can annotate. Just because you’ve messed up doesn’t mean you’ve missed out! God’s purpose and plan for your can still prevail!!
