The founder of Live Action and the face of the millennial pro-life movement presents a guidebook for becoming a force for good in a broken world.
Do you see the world's pain and heartache and wish you could do something about it? Do you want to help but don't know where to begin?
As a fifteen-year-old girl, Lila Rose started Live Action in her family's living room out of a deep passion to defend the rights of the most vulnerable among us and to expose the abortion industry for what it does. In the sixteen years since, she has built the largest and most engaged online following in the pro-life movement, addressed members of the European Parliament and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, and been named as one of the National Journal's "25 most Influential Washington Women Under 35." And now she is drawing on that experience to speak to all those wanting to make a difference but needing guidance for how to start.
In this book, Lila shows how to
overcome imposter syndrome and become an expert through practice, develop the character and relationships needed to build a solid foundation, understand the fuller picture at play to work toward a more comprehensive solution, and bounce back from mistakes to continually grow and make a long-lasting impact. Lila guides readers from the beginning thoughts of, How can I help? to, Yes, I can be a force for good, and I feel equipped to start today, providing a much-needed handbook on how to truly make a difference in today's world.
Lila Rose is a writer, speaker and activist. Lila founded and serves as president of Live Action, a human rights nonprofit with the largest digital footprint for the global pro-life movement.
Lila’s investigative reporting on the abortion industry has been featured in most major news outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, CBS and ABC Nightline. Her media appearances include Fox News’ Hannity and Tucker Carlson Tonight, as well as CNN, BBC, and many other national television and radio programs. Lila has written for the Hill, Politico, USA Today, and First Things, among others.
Lila speaks internationally on family and cultural issues, and has addressed members of the European Parliament and spoken at the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women. She has been named among National Journal’s “25 Most Influential Washington Women Under 35,” and Christianity Today’s “33 under Thirty-Three.”
Lila is the author of ‘Fighting for Life: Becoming a Force for Change in a Wounded World.” She is the host of “The Lila Rose Show,” a podcast that tackles relationships, faith, culture, and politics.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Lila lives in California with her husband and son.
I am part of the launch team. I asked to join the team because I knew a little about the author and what she stood for. No matter how you feel about the issues surrounding life you should read this book. An honest feminist will love this book as a testament to what a woman can accomplish but I fear the prejudice many have against life will keep them from admiring the accomplishments of Lila Rose. Or appreciate her sharing about the common obstacles she overcame. When you read this book, even if you do agree with her positions, you will be blessed to learn how you too can be effective and achieve meaning in your life.
I was impressed with the transparency of the book and how she did not hold back when discussing the issues in life she dealt with and overcame. This alone is reason enough to read the book. I know many face similar problems. I also know many try to hide things that detract from their image. Lila shares them openly in a way that says "you can beat this" while not making herself out to be arrogant or egotistical. The message is that there is hope and anyone can win. Much of the book directs the reader to how to overcome and master their own issues.
A lot of people, who have great accomplishments, write books that come off sounding like "look at me and what I did". In this book the author says here is the map, follow the path and you too can enjoy success. She also is not ashamed to give credit to God for making her successful. She quotes a number of passages from the Bible where they are meaningful to the topic.
Lila Rose is an effective voice for the unborn and an accomplished political activist. I agree with her position on life and admire the impact she has had in the political arena. I also admire what she infers in supporting the idea that making abortion illegal, while it would be good, is not enough to defeat the forces that push for the death of the unborn. We share a common bond in the knowledge that the only way this evil will end is if hearts are changed to uphold the sanctity of life made in the Creator's image. Laws alone won't end abortion but helping people embrace the unborn baby from the perspective of the value of life.
I could continue rambling on but think it is more important to encourage everyone to read the book. The understanding you will gain is worth the brief time it will take you. I once read a book written by a supposed Christian doctor who is an abortionist. In his book, Willie outlines the rationalizations that allow him be an outspoken proponent of the abortion industry. He reveals in the book things in his lifestyle that make his claims to be Christian suspect based on his defiance of obeying God. Lila, shows her humanity in the issues she faced and overcame, and demonstrates the heart of one who seeks to know and obey God. You will be better off for seeing what she faced and how she succeeded.
I have chosen a path in support of life that does not include political activism but I am glad to have a better understanding of how Lila has been led to serve on this path. We both want to see the abuses end based on people learning how to embrace a more abundant life based on their growing faith and obedience to God.
I normally do not make my highlights visible but am doing so with this book so you can see the passages I found profound and influential.
*** I received an eArc from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.***
This powerful memoir encapsulates one woman's passion with a determined focus on defending our most precious and innocent lives.
Lila Rose displays her courage compelled with brave activism that combats lies and deceit in a powerfully and honestly written memoir. I was fascinated with her journey and praise her work in defending the most vulnerable.
This was a beautifully written memoir that leaves the reader reflecting on how their own actions can create change.
I credit “Live Action” with educating me on what abortion really is and helping me strengthen my stance against it. I started following them on my social media about a year or so ago. I did not know who Lila Rose was at that time or how she founded the organization, so this book did a great job of filling in some holes for me. Fighting for Life is part memoir, part historical narrative, part inspirational nonfiction. Lila Rose tells readers about her life growing up in a large family and her early involvement as an activist (and by early, I mean 8 or 9 years old). She has always felt that she was called to something greater and did everything she could to fulfill that calling. Lila Rose dedicates chapter two to some of the people who inspired her, Corrie ten Boom, being one of them. Corrie’s story is so powerful. She experienced pain and suffering in a way that we can only imagine, and yet, she chose grace and forgiveness instead of anger and hate. Lila asks, “Where does the strength come from to risk or even offer one’s life for another, especially a stranger? The ability to love like this is given to us by God.” It is this ability to love and forgive that leads Lila Rose in the direction of standing up to the abortion industry. She started off in high school searching for a pro-life group to join, and when there weren’t any in her school, she started her own. She took this passion with her to college where she joined another group there and started going undercover into Planned Parenthood to reveal what they really do there. From there, she made videos that went viral on YouTube, which led to garnering international attention for her work. Some of that attention was positive, but as it turns out, most of it was negative. She had no idea what a Pandora’s box she was opening, from testifying in front of Congress to being maligned in the news media. No matter what was thrown her way, she persevered. My takeaway from this book was Lila Rose’s observation “that the crisis of abortion [is most possibly] rooted in another crisis: one of love and family. Is it any wonder that, for many, pregnancy is face with fear and the temptation to abort when there is no stable, loving, marriage, no home to joyfully welcome that new life into?...In many ways, marriage is under attack today. People see it as an outdated institution, a whole generation of children are jaded by divorce, and many of us question whether joy-filled, lifelong love is even possible.” This passage broke my heart. It made me realize that ultimately, it all comes back to the deterioration of a culture and society that has lost their way and misplaced their priorities. I hope this book can be a good reminder to some readers and a wake-up call to others to see how precious ALL life is and that it is worth fighting for.
I tried listening to this at night before going to bed sometimes and I had to stop doing that because it always got me inspired and motivated (basically, it made me want to jump up and take action and not fall asleep). That's how good it is!
[I requested to read this book through Netgalley and all opinions expressed in this review are my own.]
I knew I had to read this book as soon as I saw it would be published. I have been pro-life as long as I can remember and came from a family that stands for life. Sometimes we throw around terms without digging deeply into them, but I have always been blessed to know what I believe in this area. In some sense I read this book just to be reminded there are others standing up in this fight for life.
I appreciated the easy flow of the book, the heartfelt feeling of Lila Rose, and her desire to speak out against the abortion atrocities. Sometimes the self-help aspect of the book wasn't that encouraging for me and there was sometimes very trite overuse of phrases and quotes, in my opinion. Personally I would have liked to see a bit more detail of Live Action, but I realize that's not the whole purpose of this book. It is a sobering read, and I pray it will be eye-opening to those who don't know where they stand on this topic. I think it's easy to try to make certain topics sound better than the reality, but Lila Rose didn't do this in her book. She laid it out, the hurt, pain and suffering behind abortion, while digging into the needful ways to fight against it.
Overall, a book everyone should read today. I hope it is a book that gets into the hands of those who need it most.
Not to be misunderstood, I take no issue with the positions she holds. My criticism here is on literary grounds, and not an indirect attack on her views.
***
Is this a book about the author's personal journey to catholicism and the forming of her pro-life views? Is it a self-help book, to guide would-be activists about how they should go about leading a cause in general terms? Is it a memoir from the president of Live Action outlining the beginnings of that organization up to present day? Is it a book of advocacy, itself, for pro-life positions, based on personal stories from various sources? It's all of these things at once, and that's the problem.
Ultimately I would say this is a medley of ideas that are important to the author, including the cause she cares about, some key things she's learned about pursuing that cause, and in general anything that occurs to the author as belonging in a book from her experience or what she knows. In a word, it's scattered.
That's fatal for a book because I don't know who should read it. Do you want good pro-life arguments? It's not really structured for that. Do you want a self-help guide to being an advocate? It's kind of that but not really. Do you want to learn about Live Action? Perhaps half of this book will give some insight. Do you want to read a case for catholicism from protestantism? There are more direct books on that topic as well.
So, it just feels like the author is trying to do much, and doesn't do any one thing better than more dedicated books on these subjects. If you specifically want to learn about the headspace of the author, that's this book I suppose but it does come off as amateurish.
Fighting for Life was not what I was expecting. I thought this going to be a combination history of Live Action, the pro-life group started by Lila Rose when she was 15 years old, the problems she encountered and overcame along the way, and a sort of rah-rah book for the pro-life movement.
Instead, it was much more personal, diverse and helpful. Part-memoir, part-motivational, Lila talks about how her early life, coming from a large loving family contributed to her drive to help save unborn lives, but she is also honest about how her family’s imperfections also adversely impacted her efforts at times.
Each chapter focuses on one aspect/topic needed to be a good leader—of just about anything—such as: know your worth; know your gifts; find your cause; just start; leave your comfort zone; build a team, etc. She uses her own life story in founding and developing Live Action to illustrate each chapter. She is writing to young people, but even people my age (60’s+) can benefit from this book because so long as you aren’t dead, you can be contributing positively to this world we are in.
A powerful reminder that everyone, even a broke college student with a fierce passion for defending the unborn, has the power to change the world. If not us, then who? If not now, then when? Will forever remain deeply impacted and inspired by Lila Rose. Grateful to have been selected as part of the launch team for this book.
Reviewing this book is both difficult and easy, it is easy because Lila Rose has written a heartfelt, very personal book that details and explains her journey not just with the organization Live action, but with her family and own struggles. It is difficult because the topic naturally polarizes people.
I come from a country where pro-life isn’t really a thing, there is a more vibrant debate about e.g. if pets should ever be allowed to be euthanized or if it’s more ethical to wait for them to die a natural death, which ever way that happens. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s that there was a public debate about abortion partly because of some new political parties but also because a doula refused to perform abortions became big news and had to go work in another country because the argument that it went against her conscience didn’t get any traction here.
That was kind of when I woke up to the question and started to really consider how wholly good abortion is considered, when I know from women around me that even modern abortions are rarely as safe as they’re purported to be, and the mental health status of many women after the procedure is not reported on enough because the topic is sensitive. I found that I had kind of a “we don’t talk about this” emotional block when I tried to consider the question.
So I wanted to read this book because I wanted to get a calm and rational pro-life stance that I could consider and try to grapple with. And from my perspective I got that, as someone who is probably a frustratingly moderate fence sitter on this question to advocates on either side, and as someone who has had no previous information on Live action to color my views, I think that this book does a good job in making you think about the question and about your own position in it, and especially what information you have about the practices you may support in theory (not just the termination and extraction, but e.g. where one stands on say the idea of aborting a baby because it has Down’s syndrome). As someone one with a more philosophical background for me this turns into questions of what choice is, from what (perhaps subconscious) metaphysical system it is valued, and how this effects our bias in the matter at hand.
Basically this book gave me a lot to think about, I will probably be getting a copy for friends to read to discuss these things. Though it can be challenging in many ways it is a book I would recommend to people who aren’t afraid to reflect about their own feelings and thoughts in this hotly debated issue. Whichever side one is on, it can always been beneficial to learn more and to understand how others think and feel in a question that seems to spawn overwrought screaming matches rather than discussion.
I’m rating this four stars because to me this book was brave, and then I mostly mean bravely vulnerable from the author’s part and I wanted to commend her openness and vulnerability, which I see as inspiring. Now, I’ve got some more thinking to do, and this review is already an essay, but to anyone with a slight interest in this issue, I think this book is a good place to find some food for thought and insight into a pro-life perspective.
One critique I have of the writing is that the detailed conversations between Lila and her sister are painfully stilted, and I think the insertion of an unnatural amount of “Sis”, is to make sure the reader knows who says what, but it mostly came across as a badly written play and I refuse to believe they actually talk like that to each other. If I could that is the one thing I would probably edit in a text to that otherwise flows easily.
**Thank you to a NetGalley and the publishers for a copy of this text in exchange for an honest and fair review**
Lila has an incredible amount of knowledge and experience and I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about the abortion industry and/or how it effects women today. An intensely honest and motivating story of how Lila Rose built Live Action, a non-profit human rights organization seeking to de-fund Planned Parenthood and see an end to the abortion industry in America and across the world through investigative journalism efforts and educational resources. I was inspired by the personal stories of Lila's journey and the many lessons learned along the way, her compassionate heart for the thousands of women and babies abortion hurts every year and her passion and determination to create change. I am reminded once again of what a difference one young person with a vision can make if they allow themselves to be used by God.
Lila's story is nothing short of inspirational. This book reads like a novel. There is never a dull moment. Lila not only shares her personal story with the reader, but she uses her story to illustrate to the reader how you can also make an impact. It's easy to look at those who have gone before us, to look at those we admire, and think "that's great for them but I could never do that." Lila crafts her story in such a way that it has the opposite effect. Each of us has unique God given gifts and talents. Each of us has a place in the world and Lila shares how to use your voice, your talents and your gifts to fight for that which is right. Excellent read! I highly recommend this book for adults and teenagers alike. Lila began her activist work at a young age, making her story relatable to a young adult or teen.
Note: I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest written review.
I appreciated that this was a fact-based book but also with advice sprinkled in. I think Lila's work with the creation of Live Action speaks for itself but this book was really something. I will definitely read whatever she writes.
I went into this book hoping to get a new perspective on this woman. I know she doesn't like people like me and I went in knowing she would probably say awful things. Wow, was I right. As a Christian woman, she puts people down a lot. I would not recommend.
I don’t quite know how to articulate how much this book moved me. Fighting For Life by Lila Rose will be one of the most important books you pick up this year. Her heart to seek after God and make a difference is both moving and inspiring.
One of the best pro-life books I have ever read! If you need help getting started in the pro-life movement or maybe you just need some inspiration, this is the book for you!
"I knew that our solution had to be more than just political. It had to be personal. It had to begin in the consciences and imaginations of people across the nation. To change our laws, we would have to change hearts." ~ page 163
"No one is beyond saving. There was no fall too far from the reach of God's mercy. As we fight for our cause and as we stand up for what's right, may mercy always mark our words, our thoughts, and our deeds. Never forget that those who have committed evil are capable of rejecting the evil they've done. In rejecting that evil, they may become the most compelling champions of the good. And one day, we may discover them fighting by our side." ~ page 177
"Every abortion kills a child, but every abortion also damages a mother. More painful still, society tells her she has no reason to grieve. It wasn't a baby, after all. It was a choice. Some women bury their pain deeply, even denying it exists, but it manifest itself in other ways, sometimes decades later." ~ page 181
"Twisted compassion is more dangerous than outright malice because it is more difficult to detect. Because of all the brokenness and pain in this world, we are sometimes told that it is compassionate to kill, that death is better than life, that abandoning our responsibility is better than accepting it. But it is simply not our right to take an innocent human life, no matter how much suffering we think we or another may face." ~ page 207
"We fight with confidence, knowing that God's mercy and justice will prevail. Together we can rebuild the broken foundations, restore what has been devastated, and renew our wounded world (Isaiah 61:4). " ~ page 212
Lila Rose is a powerhouse - she has accomplished so much and is wise beyond her years. This book is part memoir and part guidebook, giving the reader an inside look at Live Action along with tools for personal development and for activism. I knew who Lila Rose was and I was somewhat familiar with her organization, Live Action, before reading this book, but I didn’t know the full extent of their work. It was heartbreaking to read about the evils their group uncovered at Planned Parenthood, but at the same time hopeful and encouraging to read about their successes, and the hearts and minds that have been changed.
In this book, Lila tells her story of her work in the pro-life movement, but it’s also written for anyone who wants to make any kind of difference in the world. If you already have a cause you’re passionate about, or if you know you want to make a difference but you aren’t sure how, this book will give you the tools you need to take the next steps. Reading Lila’s story is like getting to know a new friend or a big sister - someone who can share some wisdom and experience while encouraging you in your faith and encouraging you to take action on something that matters to you. It will challenge you in the best way!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was chosen to be on the launch team for Fighting for Life by Lila Rose this book is very well written I did not want to put it down. The book really pulls the reader in I like books like this one. You feel everything she felt and want so much to join her in the fight to safe babies lives. This book will have you in tears and you will always be thinking that you need to do more to save babies lives. You really get to see the struggle Lila Rose went through to get Live Action started. The dedication she put in to inform women of Planned Parenthood agenda to kills babies for there own needs and not care of how the mother feels. I think we all need to read this book if you are Pro life or not this book is a book that will make you want to be pro life if your not and the people who are pro life they will want to help out as much as they can to save babies lives. More women need to be educated about babies in the womb they are human being not just a clump of cells. I recommend this book to everyone to read they wont want to stop reading it. We are all made in the image of God.
#FightingForLifeBook Lila Rose is Someone who I have admired for a couple years now as I have gotten more involved in the pro-life movement! I have listened to her podcast, educated myself on her and the work she has done for the unborn. And The more I get to know her the more I want to help on this subject! That is why I am now a Pro-Life Ambassador I have gotten the honor to be trained by her team to help fight for life! And now Lila Rose has a book called Fighting For Life! I have been also honored by being apart of her book launch team, and to promote this Amazing book! It is filled with so many questions you might have about abortion, or about the Pro-Life movement & how we can actually make a difference on person at a time! I Highly recommend if you are just curious about what the pro-life movement really is, or you want to further educate yourself on the topic! Highly Recommend! God bless ✝️🙌😍🥰❤️
Lila’s narrates her own personal journey to true faith and a real relationship with Christ. It’s also depiction of her our journey within the field of activism and a sort of how-to manual for those interested in starting their own work to be a voice for the voiceless. Lila speaks of continuing to move forward through the successes she experiences, but also how she learned from and improved in the midst of failures and mistakes instead of quitting or giving up. She speaks so eloquently of the need to carry grace, compassion, and mercy for those on the other side of the cause we fight for, or even victims within the cause itself.
Content warning: infant loss, child abuse, self-harm, eating disorders. I would especially caution those who have faced the loss of their own baby as Lila is very explicit in describing abortion and this could be especially painful.
I believe this book is meant for people of all ages and audiences, yes, even children! Since even Lila was already running events for the unborn at the young age of 7, I believe even children can learn something from this. This is a book for a large audience, as everyone can do their part to stand up for what's right to be the voices of the unborn, from children to the elderly. Though this book is written from a Christian perspective, I believe people not of the faith who are from different religions and belief systems can still benefit from this book for the fight for life. If you want to make a difference in the world, and you value the lives of the unborn, this is the book for you, no matter your age or religious beliefs.
It is clear from the very beginning that Lila Rose is passionate about the unborn. It is amazing to me that even at a very young age upon seeing her sister on an ultrasound, that passion has always been there. As you open the book you're thrown into an amazing journey as Lila passionately throws herself into different strategies trying to educate people about the human tragedy that is abortion through trial and error, all along revealing to people the beauty and uniqueness of what it means to be a human being and what it means to have inherent value.
While her journey is not without naysayers, haters, and harassment, Lila counts it all as worth it if she can save even one life. The cost is great, but if we stay quiet, the cost for the unborn is greater. Lila uses historic examples of brave people who were able to endure through the worst types of situations, even concentration camps during WW2 by relying on God and on their faith. We can glean encouragement and courage from these examples as tools to help us in our own wars.
Lila is an excellent leader and shares in her book some strategies that she's tried, some that worked, some that didn't, along with strategies that worked the best. Lila's the jungle guide whose gone before us into uncharted territory, and she's made a path for the rest of us to follow. Even if you're in an area of the world where there aren't any prolife groups to join, Lila encourages to have faith, step out, and create your own group.
Lila is as firm as a lion on her beliefs about the unborn, yet, compassionate to even those who despise her, like a lamb in the faces of wolves. Lila had no former special credentials or training on social work, just a broken heart reaching out to other broken hearts, a dove trying to take down the Viper that is Planned Parenthood and their corruption.
As you read through this book, you will be appalled with what Planned Parenthood has been able to get away with, and what they stand for. You will be horrified as you go through Planned Parenthood's history and the dark roots of where it all began. Lila exposes their misdeeds at her own risk, referencing that in the past Planned Parenthood, the big giant, has come after her and her little renegade of ragtag students. But Lila is brave, tenderhearted, and passionate in all that she does. She encourages others to step out in faith no matter the odds, and gives some good advice for how to do it.
Another thing I like about this book is that it doesn't beat around the bush. Lila lets you know from the get go that you're going to face some pretty powerful and painful weapons of hatred for standing up for what's right. Despite this, her book is full of encouragement, that you can make a huge difference even just being one of you in a huge city with no prolife groups to be found. How one small person could make such an impact that Lila Rose has made through her organization, Live Action, just by stepping out in faith and encouraging others to step out with her is truly inspiring.
Lila is very relatable woman; her earliest teenage years leave none of us able to excuse that she doesn't know what these things feel like. Having gone through depression, anxiety, low self esteem, etc. Lila has lived a hard life, and it has only made her stronger in her position as she's grown. She's not some lucky uptown girl who speaks in ignorance to people suffering through these things, but understands the depth of grief what it means to feel misunderstood and alone. But these experiences of hers have only equipped her to love and cherish ALL lives all the more. Lila will always stand for your dignity as a human being even as she will always stand for the dignity of your unborn child as a human being. Her love for humanity is a powerful force, and her friends are people of all sorts, from those who lived to regret having abortions to those who would never have had one. She welcomes these people into her circle without judgement, knowing many of them were tricked by Planned Parenthood into thinking their babies were nothing more than blobs of tissue. Lila uses love to take down a great evil, following in Jesus's footsteps of loving our enemies in order to plead the unborn's case and stand for justice.
Lila draws back the curtain on the myth that the unborn are just blobs of tissue, her most powerful weapon being her truthful information and evidence. She assures all of us that we all have a place in this battle, fighting for life, and that we all have gifts to contribute. Our gifts are different from each other, but we use them to fight toward the same goal. Whether you are a well educated person who has been doing this for years or a timid person who has no idea where to begin and feel like you have nothing to offer, this book is for you!
So buy this book, get inspired, and be a light to those in your circle as you join Lila in the fight for life!
I really don't like rating memoirs. 🫣 I wholeheartedly approve of her message and mission. It's just that the layout of the book felt a little like she was just trying to fill out a chapter by inserting preachy bits.
I found it fascinating how she built her organization from scratch, as a teenager no less! She had to learn everything as she went, but didn't let setbacks derail her.
It's truly horrifying how our country has allowed Planned Parenthood to flourish. The depravity in that organization is beyond belief. Praise God for people like Lila Rose, who answered His call to make a difference.
Lila Rose started her pro-life advocacy as a teenager and in this book she talks about how she founded Live Action. she also shares life lessons she learned along the way as well as the importance of mental health and the importance of God in our lives.
an inspiring and intriguing combination of memoir, leadership mentorship with a focus on offering advice on how to find and act upon your mission in life. what is the cause God is calling you to fight for? full of interesting stories of how she built Live Action, wisdom on healing from family wounds and how that impacts your leadership, and a rousing defense of why strong marriages and families are at the center of how to heal the world. easy read too.
The struggle is in the rating and reviewing of this significant book without disagreeing in any way with the author's solid position on the horrorfic evil of the abortion industry. I am amazed by Lila Rose and the brave work she has done to expose the holocaust unleashed against the most vulnerable among us, human beings living in the womb. Thus, I cannot bring myself to give this book less than four stars. If I was rating the literary work itself, I could not give this even a three-star rating.
When I bought this book, I was expecting a detailed narrative of the author's remarkable work in advocating for the unborn. The impact of the investigative work done by Live Action is nothing less that remarkable! This organization has brought to light much of the darkness and criminal activity propagated by Planned Parenthood. I was hoping to read a narrrative of the inception to the present day activities.
But, very randomly interspersed throughout the book is the story of the author's personal journey into catholicism. She presents her own theology in almost every chapter and it seemed that she was trying to persuade or at least teach her readers so that they might believe as she does. I was not expecting this and found myself confused in trying to follow her point and purpose. She then would segway into the second person perspective, reading much like a self-help book as she began guiding and directing would-be activists in leading a cause in general terms. It was very difficult to follow. Personal stories from her own life were detailed without a clear order as the chapters were organized topically rather than chronologically.
Lila Rose and Live Action has been responsible for informing and persuading the American public on what I believe is the most critical issue our country has ever faced! She has written excellent articles and I understand she has a podcast. I believe she is an accomplished investigative reporter. I simply wish the editing of this important book had been more excellent and thus it would likely be taken more seriously and read by a broader audience.
A champion for life reveals her playbook: part pro-life apologetics, part autobiography, part advice/how-to for others in the fight for life — all courageous, convicting and compelling. If you dare to fight for a better world — a world without abortion and with love for life, womb to tomb — read this book!
“Her writing shifted the way I saw the world. She was teaching me the same lesson she taught the world throughout her life: to treat every single person as precious and worth fighting for.” – Those are the words “Fighting for Life” author Lila Rose wrote about Mother Teresa — and those same words could apply to the way I feel about Lila’s impact on me through this book.
Lila’s raw and real reflections on her own story — from her first encounter with the realities of abortion as a young girl, to her personal and family battles with mental health, to a heartbreaking encounter with her own OBGYN during her own pregnancy — paint a powerful backdrop for the incredible redemption story God brought through them. And they serve as invitations for us to engage with our own story and pray about how God might use those challenges to advance whatever cause He calls us to.
“God, use me. Use me to somehow save lives,” is a simple prayer Lila prayed. What if we all prayed that? If we did, and applied the lessons of this book, we could win the fight for life.
As Lila says, “this fight needs men and women of courage and conviction, of every background, of all ages.” If that describes you, get this 5-star book to develop and execute your winning strategy to become a force for change in our wounded world.
This book was so helpful, especially considering the current events happening around abortion. It was hard not to sob through the whole book, as it is truly devastating to hear so many facts about abortion. This book was very informative and educational from a pro life perspective. I learnt things about abortion that I didn’t know, and as a result feel a lot more informed about fighting for the pro life cause. This book grieved me but also gave me immense hope to be reminded of all those whose minds have changed and become pro life, it reemphasizes the blessing and gift it is for women to experience pregnancy and how choosing life has turned out to be a rich blessing to so many women with unexpected pregnancies. I also loved the Christian perspective throughout the book, learning more about Lila’s personal story and how Live Action came to be. I’m so grateful for the work she has done and continues to do. This book was inspiring, powerful, emotional, honest and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is passionate about the pro life cause, as well as those who have not considered what an abortion procedure actually does and would like to learn beyond the “politically correct” euphemisms that are used today.
First, if you don’t know the evil and demonic practices of Planned Parenthood already, this will be eye opening to you as to what’s going on in America related to the abortion crisis we have not to mention it’s heavily funded by tax dollars.
Second, it’s a great reminder of the responsibility we have in America to fight against and stand up to the overall abortion crisis we have and have had since Row v Wade. I think many are oblivious to just how many abortions have taken place since Row v Wade, approx 60 million. Just take a min and think about that.
Third, Lila’s vulnerability, the personal faith she shared as well as her encouragement to others were woven throughout the book.
This book is a beautiful mix of a raw biography and encouraging look at how to follow your passions. As I read through I am amazed by Lila Rose’s openness regarding her struggles, her passions and her desire to be apart of change for good in this world!
I highly recommend this for anyone involved in or looking to join a cause and is feeling daunted, tired, or unsure of how to begin. As well as anyone just looking for a good read!
Lila's book is exactly what I hoped it would be: encouraging, empowering, and applicable, while also giving a closer look at her own story and accomplishments with Live Action. If you're looking for a book that makes you truly want to go out and change the world (and believe that you can), this is it!
