About the author

Award-winning author and speaker Darlene Franklin lives in cowboy country—Oklahoma and loves writing about the American West. Oklahoma also has the benefit of being the home to her son, his wife, and their four beautiful children. Darlene loves music, needlework, reading and reality tv. Talia, a Lynx point Siamese cat, proudly claims Darlene as her person. Darlene is the author of seventeen contracted books and novellas, as well as several hundred short pieces. Two of her books have finaled in ACFW’s Book of the Year (now the Carol award) contest: her novella, Dressed in Scarlet, and her cozy mystery, A String of Murders.

I thoroughly enjoyed this reading journal. I especially liked that each day there was a bit each of the Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms or Proverbs. It was easy follow and you can choose the Bible translation of your choice to use with it. I used the NIV.

When my mom and sister started reading through the Bible in a year, my competitive juices started flowing. I was determined NOT to be left behind! Not only was I inspired by healthy competition, but I also believe that if I say I am a Christian, should I not know the Word of God? To keep things fresh, I would read different translations, reading plans, and formats of the Bible. And I found that like any good habit, I came to eagerly anticipate the consistency of my coffee dates with Jesus! However, over time, I found that reading became rote and I felt the Holy Spirit challenging me in the area of prayer. Prayer! No! That's too hard, too nebulous, and...did it really believe in its effectiveness or (gasp!) would I be simply wasting my time?!! Darlene Franklin's Pray through the Bible in a Year Journal was God's answer! When I discovered this gorgeous, deluxe journal complete with reading plans and prayer prompts, I was stoked! On the inscription page, I wrote Especially For Jennifer Erickson, From Jesus, Date 2020...Little did I know its significance for such a time as this! This prayer journal has become not only a spiritual but an historical chronicle of unprecedented events and how I have witnessed the prophetic and sovereign hand of the Divine in it and through it all.

I have made a habit of reading through the Bible each year, and have enjoyed adding Pray Through the Bible in a Year Devotional to my daily quiet time! Beautiful book and I like having the devotion at the end of each day. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. This book is amazing. While I didn’t read daily and journal I did read through the book and look up, print out and mark up my bible. This would be an amazing gift for a women’s group to use throughout the year.

If you have wanted to read through the Bible in a year, in a systematic way, let this be your guide. Each day provides the references for an Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms/Proverbs and then a short encouragement, or prayer, based on one of the references provided. I love the design and the colors used to embellish the pages. I highly recommend having a notebook or journal close by and allow yourself to get lost in God’s love letter to you this year.

The devotionals were short and accompanied by a verse to read. It didn't appear to go in any real order, but the devotionals were contextually appropriate.

I requested this because I thought it would help me read the bible, and what to read, on a daily basis. However, nothing is numbered and there are only small segments that really leave things out.
