Smart. Confident. Bright career. Scorned. Shielded heart. Exactly describes Myra Wooten, a beautiful woman and assistant principal, who is adamant about protecting her heart from being hurt again. However, her mind and her heart are battling each other constantly because she wants love and to be love but prefers to avoid it at all cost. Unfortunately, her heart might just win the war when she bumps into Curtis, a former hardcore New York thug turned legit businessman, who unbashful tells her his desires upfront, on their first meeting. Myra tries to run from him and what they can be, but how far will she get? Will one night of unforgettable passion make her have instant regret? Or will it lead to her finding the love that she craves, building a foundation of love, stability, and most importantly, her confidence as a woman? Handsome. Successful. Loyal. Former drug king. A staunch businessman. Curtis Roberson is not your average thug that sags his pants, kills people, gang bangs, or none of that. In fact, he’s a retired drug king that departed from the game when his mother got sick and died. Determined to be the best version of himself for him and for her, Curtis uses his street savvy and opens a few soul food restaurants along with other legit businesses. However, the two things that escapes his prominent life are a wife and child, which he so desperately desires. He can taste his desires even better when he fatedly meets Myra, knowing instantly that she is his future. But when Myra makes an ill decision that wounds Curtis deeply, he loses hope in ever conquering his heart’s desire, distancing himself from her. Fortunately for him, Myra drops a bomb on him, changing his whole outlook from bleak to brighter. Upbeat. Beautiful. Advice giver. Nursing student. Cheslie, Myra’s best friend, falls for Shawn, who is strong in the streets, Curtis’s best friend, and a married man. She doesn’t mind doling out advice, but she doesn’t heed to the advice given to her. Going against the code, she doesn’t leave Shawn alone… until it’s too late. Cheslie moves on but imminent danger surrounds her, causing her to take drastic measures as a precaution. Will Cheslie be able to live her life fully and find love with someone else? Or will her illicit affair with Shawn be her downfall? Forbidden love. Toxic relationship. Never-ending sea of sorrows. Avoiding love. Daring to love. Surrendering to love. Get lost with Myra, Curtis, Cheslie, and Shawn as this is not your average thug book. Brace yourself and see what a Summertime With a New York Thug is like.
Curtis is a man after my own heart. He changed his life for the better but still gutter when he needs to be. I could have slapped some sense into Myra but glad her silly azz saw the light. My heart broke for Cheslie. She made bad choices like all of us have but Shawn did the absolute most. He is a phuck boy who wanted Cheslie scared when he couldn't exert his control over her anymore. I'm glad that Curtis and Myra find a way to deal with everything that unfolded. Love is conquered and lust is destroyed in this summer read. Curtis is a different breed but still his own brand of thugness.
I can’t believe Shawn killed her and she was about to have a baby that made me cry I wonder how Brandon took the news but I’m happy Myra gave Curtis a chance and you can never believe a doctor cause they definitely can be wrong great story
Great characters, drama, secrets, lies, and more. This well written story has a little of it all. Those two crazy exes caused too much drama, sadness and tears.
OMG THIS BOOK HAD ME IN FEELINGS!!! Had me boo hooing at the end. I loved this book. I thought it was a very good read. So far every book I’ve read in the Summertime with a Thug series has been great.
On to Philly next! (I’m wondering if Shawn and his wife crazy ass in Philly ⬇️🤔🤔🤔??
My favorite passage in this book:
“Stop crying, I haven’t gone to the doctor yet to confirm everything for sure. I’m going to tell Brandon when he get’s home, I’m just a little nervous. Like what if when I go to the doctor and it be a false alert or something. I want this so bad, I just know something is going to go wrong.” “Cheslie, please stop with the dramatics, this is your blessing. You see once you stopped dealing with the wrong man, everything good started happening for you. You finally finished school and got your degree, got you a man that loves and cherish you for who you are. Now you two are about to bring in a wonderful blessing. Stop thinking about everything that can go wrong and be grateful for everything that’s been going right. This is your season, you just had to get rid of the extra baggage for things to flow smoothly girl. Now I want you to go buy you the sexiest lingerie and cook that man a feast, and after he’s done eating, lay it on him. I love you girl and you deserve happiness as much as the next person. Don’t ever think you don’t.” “Oh my goodness, you’re so right, but I have to tell you something else. Lately I’ve been having nightmares about Shawn killing me. I don’t know where these dreams are coming from but they are seriously scarring the shit out of me. I done got so scared, I done went and took a life insurance policy on myself. I just don’t want nobody to be burdened with my funeral costs just in case something dreadful ever did happen to me. I don’t want to die tho, my life is actually just beginning.” Crying I was really fearful for my life. No, I hadn’t seen or heard from Shawn in a hot minute but that didn’t mean he wasn’t somewhere plotting. What his wife said to me a while back still haunted me from time to time. Something deep down inside told me I wouldn’t live much longer but I brushed it away, putting it off on me overthinking. “Cheslie, don’t think like that because believe it or not, that man done moved on with his life. I didn’t tell you this because I know Shawn is a bad memory for you but him and his wife moved to Philadelphia. You’re just being paranoid for no reason at all. Chill out and focus on your future because baby, it’s looking very bright.”
I loved this book! Loved how it wasn’t the hard core street thug type book! Curtis done loved and done that and he was living life happy now these days! Boy who would of known the first night meeting Myra taking her home and having sex would have her pregnant three months later lol! God works on funny ways and he wanted Curtis to know he was still God and he could make changes whenever he wanted too! Not one but two babies now wow! I k ow Glenda is smiling down hard on him! I’m glad April just left willing because if she didn’t she may of been swimming with the fish like Bobby lol! Shawn was something else! Wanting his cake and to eat it too only to end up locked up! And I wonder what Fatim has to say when she found out all of this! This one was of the best ones I have read so far! Great job
This was a real good novella that I enjoyed reading that had me all in my feelings with that ending. I like the fact that Curtis was on his grown man business from the very first time that he laid eyes on Myra. I'm glad that they worked everything out in the end as a family with CJ and Lil-Chelsie. I wanted to cry real deal tears when Shawn attacked Chelsie especially with her being pregnant. I felt so bad for Brandon. I didn't give this book 5 stars because it left questions like what happened with Brandon and who received Chelsie's life insurance policy. What was wrong Curtis's sister?
Myra played hard to get from the beginning but Curtis wasn't with chasing women. After their one encounter and she wound up pregnant he was ready to put a ring on it, until she broke his heart in the worse way. Telling him she was gonna kill his seed. I'm glad she got her mind right before she did something she couldn't undo. Her and Curtis was made for each other. The ending broke my heart and Shawn deserved to be where Bobby is at. Cheslie didn't deserve that but she knew in her heart it was going to happen.💞💞
What an explosive story. A great lesson learned about playing with someone 's heart isn't a good thing to do.
When someone tell you they are married and is still home with there spouse, let that situation go. Three abortions and you still living in a fantasy. Sad, Shawn was crazy and possessive with a whole wife and kids at home. I'm glad he got his.
I'm happy we got a happy ending with Myra and Curtis. Great One!!
This story of love was an awesome one. When you get a man that loves you and expresses it unconditionally you know he's made just for you. I feel bad that Cheslie didn't get to live her happily ever after but at least she had a taste of it with Brandon. I commend everyone's mature attitude towards their situationships, except for Shawn because he could've made a sane choice. Great Read! ReneeG 👍
Yes, I enjoyed this story. Mayra got on my last nerves, and should be a good lesson about not letting the past control your future. C was book bae all the way and I loved her back story. Chelsie was a good friend and it sad 😢what happened to her....that wife of Shawn was crazy to stay with him. Really good read. On to the city of this series.
I must say this book brought me joy and pain. I was glad that Myra finally let Curtis love her like a real man because they both deserved it. My heart broke when that bitch ass Shawn took Cheslie life I was hoping Brandon got there and killed him before she die. Overall it was an amazing book
This thug life was a pleasant surprise. Not the average drug dealing and killing thug that we’re used to reading about. Curtis had already changed his life before the story even started. The love he had for Myra was so great that nothing could keep them apart. Through ups and downs, life and death these two are destined for happiness.
Oh my this was a really good read. Yeah Myra was getting on my nerves her and Curtis. I’m just glad they were able to work through it and found happiness together. Why did Chelsie’s story have to end like that 🥺 she found her true love and I was excited for her and Brandon’s happily ever after 😢
Interestingly weird and makes you want to keep reading. I wish Chelsie would of had a backbone anx put her foot down and actually stood up for herself with Shawns craziness. Myra was just a selfish prude. Just happy she got herself together and thought about someone else other than herself. Curtis was a good and crazy man wit a purpose. Happy they got together.
Such a good story. Every person should be able to find that love. It also shows how a person could become obsessed over someone. Through the tragedy, love came out. Great Story
This books was crazy! Shawn was out of line how you gonna get mad because she didn’t want you because you wanted your cake and to eat it too. They should’ve told Curtis what was what! I wasn’t expecting that ending
This book was good from the beginning to the end. Curtis just knew Mya would be his wife from the first day he laid eyes in her. It was said the way Chelsie lost her life. Sean and Bobby both got what they deserved
This book was good and it did hold my attention from the very first page. I love Curtis he was everything and was happy that he and Myra gotten it together. My heart went out to Chelise because Shawn was crazy.
Thats a shame Shawn did that to Chelsea she didn't deserve that. I'm glad April left without going crazy on Curtis. Glad him an Myra living there happily after. Just wish Chelsea was there poor Brandon right when she found her a keeper.
This book was really hood. I loved the fact that he was a boss and a thug that's wasn't a kingpin.I loved how the storyline flowed so well. I hate Chelsea lost her life that was sad she had finally got her a king.U can't wait to read your next book
Good job on this book Shona. You taught me to steer clear of psychos like Shawn. Cheslie found her happiness, but Shawn ruined it with his jealousy. Mayra almost lost Curtis by being a snob. She got some act right once she seen he was moving on.
Shawn was a B!tch boy. Fatima should feel like an a$$ now. Your Husband didn’t have no kind of respect or real love for you. Myra did the right thing and Curtis finally got his act together.
I was looking for the thug in the beginning. Curtis talked the talk, but was not living that life. I was glad that he came to his senses and gave Myra the love she deserved. So sad for Chelsie. My heart hurt for her. Good book!
I have no words for Shawn's crazy self. I knew he was going to kill Cheslie and she was pregnant too. I feel it for her beau and Myra. So happy for Curtis. He is truly blessed. He got his family that he always wanted. Great story.
The story was really entertaining!!!! I am sad how things turn out for Chelsie, I was so fond of Brandon . Curtis oh I loved this character a lot . Myra was at some point annoying , stuck up for no DAmn reason
I loved Myra and Curtis storyline and I’m glad they ended up together. I hate that Shawn ended up crazy and killing Cheslie, smh. A hot mess. This was a great read and i loved all of it. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
I love Myra and Curtis relationship. Myra acted hard but she finally gave in. I hate Shawn was a complete jerk and couldn’t let go of a woman who moved on. In all I loved the story. Great job
Shawn had some screw's loose Poor Chelsie really did it. Glad April wasn't crazy. What happen to Bobby. Curtis was different. Can't wait to area the rest of Summertime series
This book was so good!! I’m do glad it wasn’t the norm because I’m tired of the drug kings with the long you know!! And the even longer money!! I want Chelsey to have her perfect love story too!! Y’all check it out!! You won’t be disappointed!!
