After they were released from prison, three ex-convicts started a business together. Chief, Bird and Tiger opened a farm, WILD EAGLE ACRES, where they work hard to achieve their goals in life. One thing none of them expected is to find love along the way.
This is Bird's story.

No way she is really THAT girl!

Bird
The last thing we, ex-cons need is drama.
But I’m not really an ex-con.
I was innocent of the crime that got me locked away
I'm not a man of words.
All I can say is, the day I see Moira, my life flips 180.
My mind races with thoughts of her.
I’ve got to have her, one way or another.

Moira
It’s not ex-cons I’m running from, it’s men.
They will always break your heart.
Well, no more.
I’ve got a new job, a new wardrobe and I’m working on bettering myself every day.
Just because there’s this attractive, towering, mysterious man working on the farm with me, it does not mean I will be drawn in.
Lord knows what will happen if I let him get close.

BIRD is the 2nd standalone short romance read in the Wild Eagle Alphas series. All books can be enjoyed separately, but the stories are interconnected. This insta love romance short story features an ex-convict alpha male and a curvy woman he never thought he would find. It’s the perfect short romance read if you love a protective bad boy (who is not so bad at all) and his curvy beauty love, this is the short read romance for you!

The couple: Moira and Bird

Romance genre: Insta-love
Part of a series: Yes (Wild Eagle Alphas)
Length: 40 pages

Plot: Moira is the new accountant at the farm that Bird and his ex-con friends have started. She has a crush on him, he has a crush on her. When they finally come together, they realize that they have more in common than they ever realized.

Character development: The plot twist was something easily spotted, but it was still sweet. The characters were both loveable, and it was interesting that Bird was so open to love after all that happened to him.

(BTW: I feel like I need a new goodreads shelf for bookkeeper/accountant - they sure are used a lot for heroine careers!)

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes
Next book in the series: Tiger: An Ex-Convict and Curvy Woman Romance

Alright as insta-love romances go. However, enough weak points that I can't give it more than 2+ rounded up to 3.

Moira (h) is the new bookkeeper at Wild Eagle Acres and catches the attention of Bird (H), one of the ex-cons who founded the farm. Bird is big and intimidating-looking, but was innocent of the charges that put him away. Doesn't make it any easier to meet someone who isn't put off by his size or past, though. Will Moira be more of the same, or will she see the man inside?

It's light, fluffy, but with a bit of a unique setting - the whole restarting ex-cons idea. Enjoyable for a quick afternoon read, but not enough depth to really make it a favorite. Part of what dropped this was Moira. Bird is kinda simple and sweet as a character, and I liked him, but Moira is a little erratic. She's one of the flip-flopping curvy characters, being both confident and outspoken and yet super embarrassed by her body. It's pretty common in "curvy woman" romances, and it gets a little irritating.

All of the books in the series have the same problem - they are rather short. With the storylines involved, they could have used some more pages. The flow would have been smoother overall - kinda choppy as they are now. The fast timeline and short page length means that Moira appeared more erratic, that subplots (like the penpal) weren't full developed - that sort of thing. The penpal issue wasn't really so much of a twist (telegraphed pretty strongly, beginning back in the epilogue to book 1), but it could have been developed into a richer subplot. As it was, it was a little footnote way towards the end of the story. Missed opportunity, I think it what I'm trying to say. Yes, at the length they are, these stories make for quick lunchtime reads, but a little bit more development would not have hurt.

Well written, grammatically. Mostly well edited, thought there are occasional typos. One issue throughout the series has been the occasional slip to British English. Usually just one or two instances per book, but it's a little jarring when people who otherwise have a touch of US country slang in their speech also use terms like "plait" or "trainers."

Also throughout the series, I was frustrated with the formatting. Don't know if these were conscious choices by the author or not, but there wasn't always spacing between paragraphs in a conversation. Elsewhere paragraphs were separated by an empty line. In conversations, though, sometimes there was but equally as frequently there wasn't. Sometimes made conversations more difficult to follow. Also in the formatting category - the text messages. They were just in quotes like spoken statements. In other books I've read, text messages are in italics or bold or something. Not that there's an exact formatting convention, but at least do something to differentiate. Again, just confusing enough to be distracting.

Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangle nonsense. Insta-love with relatively low angst, though I didn't particularly like the h too much. A bit more development would have fixed that, but it is just a short story. Fast, easy, escapism. HEA with epilogues and no cliffhangers.

Would I read more in this series/by this author? I read this whole trilogy and enjoyed it, but it wasn't really a "reread" series for me. I might try another of her series, especially if it's another free/cheap find on Kindle.

Although not a bad story, this wasn't quite for me for a number of reasons. First off, the author telegraphed a plot point too much. I guessed the outcome from the get-go and it was something I thought was unrealistic and frankly impossible to hinge the story on. So there was that.

Then I wish there had been more indication of how old they were. Bird struck me as young/naive(?) with perhaps not a lot going on upstairs. Moira was not that much better and it annoys me when a story has a curvy girl that flips between "I am beautiful and will wear tight, revealing clothes." to "OMG, let me cover up, I'm so insecure!" at the drop of a hat.

Then on a purely personal level, there was the name Bird for the male MC. The author uses this name -a lot- in the book, especially given its length. I didn't like the name the first time I read it and it became increasingly cringe-y for me throughout the book but especially during the sex scene.

With that said, the writing style overall was fine and reasonably well edited. You could do worse for a quick read with a little heat.

Note: Available on KU at time of posting. Series book but can be read as standalone (although mentions characters from previous book in series). I'd probably read something else by the author, though I wouldn't rush to do so.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second book in the Wild Eagle Alphas series. In this book, Bird is an ex-con who was released and along with his two best friends, bought a ranch. Bird was a very large man and most people were scared of him. The new accountant they hired for the ranch was not scared of Bird and didn't look away from him. Bird was very attracted to Moira and wanted to get to know her better. Moira was the first woman that interested Bird since he had been released. Bird was a little shy and awkward and didn't know what to say to Moira and ended up hurting her feelings. Moira was convinced she would never be loved after her ex cheated on her and she decided to just stay away from men all together. Moira knows Bird was interested in her and was trying to deny her attraction to him. When Bird tried to apologize for hurting her feelings, she decided to accept and give him a chance. I really loved this book, i thought Bird was sweet and like a big teddy bear. Bird was so shy and scared of hurting Moira. Moira never thought Bird could be interested in her because she was curvy, but Bird only had eyes for her. Good one, i look forward to reading the next book.

Bird and Moira have a connection (not revealed to each other until the end) that makes the story more interesting and appealing, at least to me. He's the big ex-convict and she's the curvy new bookkeeper of the farm he owns with his friends.
A quick read with cute things that happened between these two main characters. Insta-love and easy to finish in one sitting.
I'm a little picky when it comes to First Person writing in a book but this is the second one in the series. I'm not used to it but it didn't bother me as much as with the first story.

This is book two and Bird and Moira's story; two people who have a connection (more than they know) but have a few things they need to sort out first. The story moved along well, the characters were interesting and the Epilogues were good, I did however think that their deeper connection might have been addressed earlier than it was. I am looking forward to Tiger's story now.

This was a fun read showcasing Bird, one of the ex-cons running the ranch, and Moira, the new bookkeeper. He was a physically huge and strong but also shy and dealing with self doubt. Moira is enamoured of him but also had self doubts to deal with. Long story short, with some help from friends, they start to communicate and work through to a sweet and steamy HEA. I loved the surprise to make this story go full circle. It's definitely an entertaining addition to the series.

Bird is a brute with a huge heart. He is a convict and he is afraid of being rejected because of that.
Moira is the new bookkeeper of the ranch. She is a curvy girl and she is afraid of being hurt again.
They belong together but their fears and insecurities make it a bit difficult at the beginning.
Short and sweet but enjoyable.

This is the second book in this series. The story can be read as a standalone, but to get more of the characters and back story you can read them in order. This is the story of Bird the ex-con and the woman Moira that captures his heart. Their connection and chemistry is great. Looking forward to see what comes next in this series.

It's Bird's time to find the one for him. Him and Moira are deeply connected but she has reservations. This is a short story so it progresses pretty quickly. I did have a hard time feeling their connection at times. However, I do love epilogues!

Bird is book two in the Wild Eagle Alphas series. The storyline is good and the characters are believable. Bird and Moira both have feelings for each other but aren't sure how the other feels. The writing is good and the ending is great. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Bird and Moira

Bird and Moira are a gentle couple. Both of them have been through so much in their lives. Their story is sweet, sad, and lovely all at once. A standalone novel in The Ex-Convict Alphas series.

Bird

I really liked this story. The shy girl and inexperienced nervous ex con. It shows how hard it is to meet people. I would recommend this book.

Short and sweet with a sweet HEA. The ex- con and his woman that he unconsciously knew far more longer. They both fell hard and fast. Bird was a big and sweet but a bit shy guy.... freaking cute 😍
