From the New York Times best-selling author of Sacred Contracts and Anatomy of the Spirit, a timely guide with 100 prayers for entering into a personal relationship with the Divine.***In her most personal book to date, beloved teacher and best-selling author Caroline Myss draws on her own practice to help us regain our fluency in the language of prayer and renew our connection to the sacred.Intimate Conversations with the Divine offers 100 of Myss's personal prayers as a resource and inspiration to start a prayer practice of your own. Each prayer illustrates a different type of grace that feeds the human soul, from awakening, endurance, and healing, to silence, surrender, and trust. "We are one holy system of life and great cosmic truth, which is that all life-including all of us-breathes together," Myss writes. "I hope this book, these prayers, will bring you comfort and grace, and help you through the difficult times ahead. And I hope they will inspire you to believe that with God, all things are possible."
Caroline Myss was born on December 2, 1952 in Chicago, and grew up with her parents, and two brothers, one elder and one younger, in the Melrose Park, Illinois neighbourhood near Chicago. Caroline was raised a Catholic, and attended the Mother Guerin High School, River Grove, Illinois, run by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana in 1974, and started her career in journalism in Chicago.
In the course of her career, she interviewed Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D., the author of the famous book, On Death and Dying, which inspired her to pursue a Master's degree in theology from Mundelein College, Chicago, which she completed in 1979. She also claims to hold a Ph.D in "intuition and energy medicine", but the degree was granted by Greenwich University, a now-defunct correspondence school that was never accredited to deliver higher education awards by any recognized government accreditation authority.
She started giving medical intuitive readings in 1982 and co-founded a small New Age publishing company, Stillpoint Publishing in Walpole, New Hampshire, where she also worked as an editor in 1983, next she began consulting with holistic doctors, which in 1984, led to her extensive collaboration with Dr. Norman Shealy, an M.D. schooled at Harvard, and the founder of the American Holistic Medical Association, with whom she later co-authored, "Aids: Passageway to Transformation," in 1987, followed by "The Creation of Health: The Emotional, Psychological, and Spiritual Responses that Promote Health and Healing," in 1988. Deriving from her practice as a medical intuitive, she started writing books, in the field of energy medicine, and healing, all of which became New York Times Best Sellers.[18] Starting with Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing (1996), which overlapped seven Christian sacraments with seven Hindu chakras and the Kabbalah's Tree of Life to create a map of the human "energy anatomy"; this was followed by Why People Don't Heal and How They Can (1998), which explored the reasons people do not heal through her concept of "woundology." Her next book, Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential (2002) dealt with the issue of finding "Life Purpose," while describing Sacred Contracts as "a set of assignments that our soul had formed around before incarnation". She has since appeared on the The Oprah Winfrey Show numerous times.
By 2000, she discontinued doing private medical intuitive readings, and instead started teaching it, through her workshops, seminars, radio shows and guided tours. She tours internationally as a speaker on spirituality and mysticism, and lives in Oak Park, Illinois, near Chicago. In 2003, she started the Caroline Myss Educational Institute, with Wisdom University in San Francisco.
Her 2007 book, "Entering the Castle" draws upon the writings of Saint Teresa of Ávila, a 16th century Carmelite nun, who wrote her most important work, The Interior Castle, towards the end of her life.
A thoughtful and spiritually grounded book of prayer devotions. Every time I chose one of the prayer devotions to read, it was just what I needed to hear.
A truly beautiful and uplifting book. Everything I have felt and needed during this time is within these pages. Filled me with hope and love. If you are just needing even a little pick me up, this is a go to book. Thank you Caroline for sharing your words and your prayers. For your love and vulnerability.
I can’t say I’ll ever be “finished” with this spiritually uplifting book of prayers. I have found guidance and comfort in each of the prayers and look forward to tapping into them on a daily basis.
If you are not ready for this book it will seem to be a boring waste of time, BUT if you are ready you will be going back to it time after time. My prayer for you is that you are ready.
I struggle with praying and this opened up a new way to talk to God and not feel uncomfortable. These prayers are beautiful and eye opening at the same time.
Hi, I started watching Caroline's YouTube channel during the pandemic and found out about the new book. I have read a few of her other books before. I read one prayer a day for 100 days. Worth checking out if you are trying to integrate prayer onto your life or experiment with a different technique. I have begun to try these conversations the way it's presented and it's a very good practice. Recommended.

Carolyn Myss’ Intimate Conversations is a treasure trove of insights on the sacred art of true connection—both with ourselves and with others. Through her own brand of spiritual wisdom, Myss explores the powerful role of communication in creating depth, healing, and understanding in our most intimate relationships. She teaches us how to break down the walls we’ve built around our hearts and invites us to embrace vulnerability as the path to profound emotional intimacy. It’s an invitation to dive deep into not just what we say, but how we listen, how we understand, and how we truly show up for others. This message aligns seamlessly with my second pillar—If it’s not a Hell Yes, it’s a No. Myss speaks to the importance of discerning when to engage and when to protect your energy, especially in relationships that drain you or no longer serve your truth. Her wisdom invites you to stop speaking out of obligation or fear and to instead, speak from a place of deep alignment with your heart. True intimacy isn’t about saying “yes” to everything—it’s about choosing when and how to show up authentically, even when it means saying “no” to the people-pleasing patterns we often fall into. The book also reflects Take Personal Responsibility in the most empowering way. Myss reminds us that the health of our relationships begins with us. If we are not in tune with our own needs, boundaries, and emotions, it becomes nearly impossible to create healthy, intimate connections with others. In my own work, I stress how important it is to be the first to offer love and understanding to yourself—and Myss underscores this truth as she explains how much our inner world shapes the relationships we cultivate. Intimate Conversations is a beautiful reminder that our relationships are sacred spaces for growth and transformation. If you’re ready to move beyond superficial connections and cultivate deeper, more conscious intimacy in your life, Carolyn Myss offers both the spiritual tools and practical advice to guide you. This book is an essential read for anyone who’s ready to communicate, connect, and heal at a profound level. A very thoughtful look at Grace and guidance on prayer...
Quotes: “Grace Compassion is a grace that allows for the flow of impersonal love toward others. Compassion expands your heart and anesthetizes your judgment of others. You are often inspired with the desire to embrace the other, but not from sentiment or pity. Rather, the deeper humanitarian cords that unite us as human beings animate within you. Lord, Compassion is a powerful grace. It does not discriminate. Having a compassionate heart can be risky. But what other choice is there? If I look upon others with harsh judgment, I must imagine myself in their shoes—because what I do to another person, I am doing to myself. So, open my heart to Compassion, Lord. Hover over me with endless guidance as I learn to live as one with all sentient beings. 11 Make ME RESILIENT Prayer I MARVEL AT THE RESILIENCE of nature, Lord.”
“truth many times with students, observing how many respond to that revelation with utter panic. “What should I do? How do I cleanse myself of that?” I have to laugh. Do you think a few organic vegetables will somehow separate you from the fundamental design of life—that all is one? My suggestion, as I have said to so many, is that when you feel anxiety and stress building up in your energy system, do not assume that it is necessarily yours. You may be channeling collective anxiety and stress, breathing collective psychic free radicals generated by all of us. Grace, generated through prayer, is the antidote.”
“But I have not openly admitted that breaking my word or lying are acts of darkness.”
I thoroughly enjoyed how Carolyn Myss takes a non legalistic way of exploring prayer by actually praying. It is such a comforting book and essential to anyone open to have ears to hear or better said a mindset open to contemplate healing and hope. The language is invitational and imperfect in the best ways. One highlight among many: chapter 82: More Thoughts on the Grace of Providence. Your life: We will rise up like a phoenix whether we want to or not.....our spirits will spark to life no matter how many times we fall down. That is the promise of our nature. It is the expression of the benevolent loving nature of the divine. We are designed to rise again, recover, to try again, to love again, to reach out to life and to look up to the heavens for grace. We are designed to be under the providential care of the Divine even down to the promise that we will always Spring back to life even after the darkest winter. Mystic author Carolyn Myss has short prayers like this throughout her book. It is not conventional/traditional Christianity and seekers who believe the Divine is or is not limited to one Expression of faith will find lots of truth here..
I'm so grateful to Caroline Myss for this collection of prayers. Last year, I began reading more of her works starting with Entering the Castle and A Time for Grace (formerly Defy Gravity), and I listened to her talks on YouTube, and she emphasized for me the power of prayer, something I knew from my mother who started me to praying at a very young age. I'd forgotten that power because many times, it seemed to go unanswered. But now, I know that all my prayers have been answered simply in ways I may not be able to see. Knowing this, I have begun to speak the prayers in this and Ms. Myss' other books and also to craft my own each morning and evening when I write in my journals. It's so nice to see how it's changed things for me and helped me to recognize grace and have gratitude when before it would have been hard for me to reach. Thank you so much for this gift. I look forward to going through all 100 prayers again soon. 🙏🏾
I loved this book. I actually listened to this as an audio book rather than reading it. I would listen to it when I was walking and it was perfect for this as each prayer came with bite sized pieces of wisdom. I noticed I always found myself more open hearted and in a better mood every time I listened to it. Also because I listened to it as I walked to meet family or friends I found it helped me show up and be present with them as the best version of myself and I was a little sad when I finished it but fully intend to leave it for a few months and revisit it and listen to it again.
Myss gives a beautiful compilation of simple, down-to-earth, timely and heartfelt 'prayer' conversations with a higher power of your choice... I felt the sentiments were somewhat redundant at times, but overall the range of angles, issues and sensitive topics she touches on are extremely relevant to our world today. Her vulnerability and honesty in the approach to connecting with a divine source are inspirational and evoke an energy of spiritual stamina that our world could benefit from.
I wasn't raised in religion and I was curious about the language of prayer. I saw Caroline Myss speak once and I enjoyed it. The book was good, although I'm not fully on board with evil, demons or even angels. It took longer to read than I anticipated because it's a book of prayers and reading it right through didn't suit it.
I listened to the author read this book. It is best listened to or read in small pieces. The wisdom contained within the pages gave me a lot to think about and meditate upon; it felt holy and very calming. I’d often stop the recording and listen again to sear it into my brain. A beautiful experience that left me feeling as if I’d grown.
This was not something I expected from Caroline Myss. I am a big fan of her work as an intuitive, but I just can’t appreciate prayers being sent to a singular Lord, her God. Totally turned me off and kept me from experiencing the universality for which others praise this book.
This is a book that I may never finish, although I've read it from beginning to end. I value Caroline's wisdom, heart and spirituality. Reading a page or two from this book can lift my day and give me words to ponder.
I am so glad I found this book, or maybe it found its way to me. It felt like a loving hug, a best friend, and home, to me. I’m grateful for Caroline Myss’s writing and her love to share all of these beautiful prayers and guidance.
Took my time with this book reading a few passages a day so I could take it all in. I didn’t realize how much I needed this book and how much it would help me. Definitely going to be picking up more by this author!
What a beautiful book. I appreciate how Myss structured this book, the lovely and contemplative prayers present within, and also that the author has written such a strongly spiritual book. Highly recommend!
Beautiful collection of 100 prayers. Caroline Myss describes a situation that called for prayer, and then provided Guidance, Grace, and the prayer itself.
