The Base #1

Dancing in the Dark

Rate this book
One man created a home for the survivors of unimaginable sins. A place of peace, harmony and recovery with a family that has been chosen, not forced.

Ardan has broken many rules in the eyes of the law, but for the survivors, he is their saviour. To bring down the man in charge of a child trafficking ring, he needs the help of a team of investigators. Unfortunately, they were incarcerated when they got too close to the man’s identity, meaning Ardan must leave his home and become a prisoner in one of the most dangerous places on earth.

With help from friends and family alike, Ardan, Alasdair, and the rest of the crew at The Base fight to save as many lives as possible, even if it means sacrificing their own wellbeing.

Freeing the innocent men is their first goal. Their second is showing them they can come home, not to the place where they came from, but to the safety and understanding of The Base.

Dancing in the Dark by H.M. Wolfe & Evera Ellis is one hell of an intense and emotional trek into the underbelly of human trafficking and its impacts. There are so many twists and turns that my head spun keeping track of the good guys and the multiple story lines… definitely in a good way, though. Dancing in the Dark is the first book in The Base, a new series set in the Dragons’ House world, but this series can be read on its own.

Ardan MacNamara has created a safe haven, “The Base,” for victims of child trafficking. Working with Alasdair Stark-MacNamara, his husband, they plan to eradicate as much of this horrid endeavor as possible. To reinforce their efforts, Ardan enters prison, undercover as an inmate, planning to convince a group of unjustly imprisoned officers to become members of The Base.

Along with Ardan and Alasdair, the trio of Wendell White, Winter Lampard and Davina Palmer create an intimate and interesting subplot. Then there are the intriguing Brennan MacNamara and Prince Cillian; who we can expect more from. And you never know what the evil and sadistic Fabian Bloom is going to enact next. What about Bernard; what is his story? And Saint (Llewellyn Saint-James) deserves some attention as well. There are a whole host of interesting characters, from Ardan and Alasdair’s children to the Bloom clan.

‘Dancing in the Dark’ by H.M. Wolfe & Evera Ellis is one hell of an intense and emotional trek into the underbelly of human trafficking and its impacts.

I don’t really know how to adequately summarize the intensity that enlivens Dancing in the Dark. It is dark and mysterious. Yet, there is an abundance of love and compassion. The residents of The Base are a close-knit “family” unit made of broken souls, who come together to create a positive future, as they tend to the lasting impact of the past atrocities. Yet, they strive to eliminate the evil that exists in some very twisted so-called human beings.

Dancing in the Dark is definitely setting the stage for more. I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger exactly, but we are left with a hundred and one questions. There are plot lines that aren’t fully flushed out and stories left untold. I guess that is why Dancing in the Dark is the beginning of a series. Where will Arden and Alasdair take us next? Time will tell, but their work isn’t done and there are tortured souls to save and twisted adversaries to remove

Get the first glimpse into a new series called The Base. Ardan McNamara and Alasdair Stark are a united front against the sinister workings of a child trafficking ring. Having to risk his own wellbeing, Ardan enters a prison as an inmate to try and persuade a group of wrongly imprisoned investigators to help him and the members of The Base.

The Base is a new series set in the Dragons' House universe but can be read as a standalone. The book is the first in the series:

This book brings to us an extremely complicated and complex world that revolves around The Base, which is the place where the ones that were used in horrifying businesses and horrible rings, and other unfortunate souls found solace.
We see how despite their hard experience some of them start to trust again and find happiness. We see how a threesome is made, Winter – Wendell – Davina, how it starts to bloom one, Brennan – Cillian, how the adorableness of a mischievous little girl can bring a smile on all the faces, how loyalty changes in face of the hard truth.
The action and the intricacies of the situations keeps you on edge until the end. The villain in the story is a spectacular one that tries at every turn to create chaos and destruction to those that he hate.
The story is a spectacular and thrilling one and can't wait to see what happens next.

Reading this book, well let's sau, "IT WAS HARD TO PUT DOWN'.
So much twist and turns trying to figure out who was good from who was bad.

Fabian. Ooh Fabian, such a evil, vengeful person. Don't know his head from his arse.... What will he do next....!!!!
What is Bernard's story?.... Maybe there's a story to be told.....

There are so much characters to keep track of, and trying to figure out their story can be daunting, so I have to wait, I'm sure there's more to come in this new series, and I can't wait....But like they say 'Patiences is a virtue.'

Thank you authors excellent job as always.

WHAT A NEW AND EXCITING TURN

This is going to be FANTASTIC!! All the new twists and turns. New and previous characters lay the foundation for this side of the dimension. The Base is the safe place built by Ardan MacNamara and his core group. Now with his family around him he's helping more endangered people. Wendell, Winter and Davina are a beautiful trio. Brennan and Cillian are another couple to watch. I'm such a fan of all the previous books of The Dragons' House and I like the direction these characters are going in. I'm looking forward to Book #2. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!

I was hooked as soon as the story began. The book is written from multiple point of views, exploring multiple characters, relationships, plots, and schemes. I am caught up in the adventure and want more!

I was very curious with the new duo and the spin - off and must say I was not disappointed! The idea for the plot and the new characters had me fascinated from the get go.
The writing style and narration made for a dynamic story with multiple POV.

I liked it. It was nice to go back to some characters I love and to meet some new ones. It is the start of a new series, but there are a lot of characters mention who are from the previous books. I’m not completely sure it would work that well as a stand-alone, but I can’t be a good judge on that since I read the other books.
I like the new characters, but I felt the plot center too much in them and not the characters I liked, that was a bit disappointing to me, but I guess it wouldn’t matter to a reader who is new to this world. It had some exciting moments, and it had a bit of love too. It was an entertaining read.

I started reading this book and couldn’t put it down. I, unfortunately, didn’t start from the first dragon book and was at a bit of a loss with all the different characters. I will definitely be picking up the first 2 series so I know how it started. I can honestly say that I loved the book and highly recommend.

Loved it

I love theses books and all three series from dragon house , to the men of dragon house and now the base. They’re brilliant and it helps to read them all in order. Great characters a delicate subject handled with respect. A fantastic all round series each with a HEA ending. Highly recommended a must read too

I got to 40% but I’d skipped quite a few pages to get there.
The disjointed language and extra words that were put in (I’m assuming it’s been translated into English- and bloody badly at that!!) have made this book unreadable for me.
It’s too stilted and the language just doesn’t flow. It’s sentences like this:

“You tell me. It's not me the one he cuddles with every night.”

that just bugged me too much and I can’t carry on.
Some strange word choices as well.

So, another DNF. My book choices have been so bad recently! Someone help me, please!!!!!

This was my first time reading from these authors.
3.5 Stars
I thought the book could be read as a standalone, but I kept getting confused & had to keep going back to beginning of book to look at the characters names and relations. Other than that I liked the book but it doesn’t seem finished. I’m guessing it might continue in the next book, I’m not a mmm reader but I might have to get it to read more of the story if it’s a continuation. I’m wanting to know if Fabian went back to jail, where is Cortez & did Devina turn in his father... stuff like that.

Interesting premise

I liked the premise of the book but the writing itself read stilted to me as if the author struggled with the flow or the authors muse just wasn't into it and they forced themselves to power through until the story was completed. I definitely would be interested reading an updated version with better flow to the story

This is my first book by H.M. Wolfe and Evera Ellis. Thank you for the handy character bios at the start of the book. I referred to it many times because I found myself confused here and there. When I started to read, I felt like I was missing something. I realized that although this series can be read on its own, it involves a lot of characters and plot (it seems) from The Dragon's House series, of which I have not read. But I stayed commited and found myself completely entranced with the characters and the story. The plot moves quickly and I was at the end before I knew it. I really felt how everyone at The Base is like a huge family. I need to know what happens next so I will probably finish this series first, then go back and read the Dragon's House series. Fun little note: I personally love it when the title of a book pops up in the story, thank you!

Dancing in the Dark

The Base Book 1

Look... there're two books here and I feel differently about them.
First is the book I sort of read 'behind' what I'm actually reading which feels like a great story.
Then there's the book I read. That one is confusing and all things messy, to the point that I don't quite know what I really read.
I know what I wished I read and that gets the 3 ⭐️

I'mma try the next one. Maybe the messy levels went low that time...
Thanks!

DNF

Too many characters introduced in the first chapter so got totally confused. Doesn't say anything about a previous book or series.

Won't be continuing.

Although an emotional story, I do feel like we should have has more background info on the characters as well . I also feel like the flow of the story wasn't as fluid as it could have been.
