Paradigms as a Second Language has a bit of everything. In the first half of the book, you will find imaginative and immersive short stories that answer many questions I’ve had over my life. Why hasn’t Ryan Gosling been named Sexiest Man Alive yet? Where does Whoville come from? How did Alfred Hitchcock come up with the shower scene from Psycho? I even explore what life would be like if Russell Crowe had a side hustle. Then, in the second half of the book, you will find personal essays! All stories are true to my heart, but these essays are factually true. An old man holds cheese in his pocket, a mattress salesman asks for my number, a kindergarten teacher loathes Disney. The world is filled with characters as original and thought-provoking as I hope this book proves to be.

Possibly the best book I read this year.

Great book. Loved the stories, but loved the essays even more. Melancholic as well as nostalgic, but with heart.
