I never intended to fall in love with my best friend, Megan. It just kind of happened.
I blame that stupid kiss at our high school graduation. The kiss was never mentioned, we did not talk about this unspeakable thing she made me feel. Her family left town right after that. And that night, she left me with something I never felt before. The thing kept me wanting, wanting to see her again.
After a decade, I have a chance to make everything right again.
A reunion party. Will I see Megan again? Well, I hope so.
Would everything comes to light, even the truth about our kiss ten years ago.
I can't keep my feelings for her a secret anymore.
It’s all innocent at first until you’re back in Megan’s hotel room and things start heating up between us both.
Short story where close high school friends meet again at their 10 year reunion and become more than friends. Too short for much character development, it was ok.
The synopsis is what you get in this short story. A first-time lesbian romance experience.
When the heroine (Forgot her name) has the chance to see the woman/girl she never forgot from school, she boldly goes along to a high school reunion. All is forgiven, sex ensues, coupled with insta-love. I haven't tagged this as romance, as there's not enough depth to call it one.
Us, Here, Again: A First Time Lesbian Romance by Scarlett Grace was published in 2020 with 38 pages. Megan and Lola get a second chance to find happiness in each other’s arms. Do they have what it takes to overcome the hurdles that would keep them apart? This is a fun romance. It misses some things because it is a short story, but there is enough to draw the reader in. I liked it, 4 stars.
Lola has a crush on her best friend Megan. They share a kiss at their high school graduation party. But Lola can't admit her feelings for Megan because that would make her, [say it isn't so] GAY!! They don't see each other again until their 10-year high school reunion. Are the sparks still there between them?
Everything clicks into place for Lola after that first kiss with her best friend Megan. Only she’s to scared to follow her heart. Now it ten years later and the old spark is still there. She finally faces her fears. Sweet coming out story with hot reunion.
I appreciated the story the author was telling, but some of the narrative was awkward and incorrect. This story could shine with a quick once-over with a proofreader. Since it being short, we didn't get a lot of backstory or any real build up between the two protags. It read as a sweet and delicate story until they had sex. I'm no prude, and I love raunchy prose, but this was jarring when I started reading words like 'c*nt', 't*t', etc, as a description. I love those words, but they have to blend organically within the story being told, in my opinion. This being femme/femme, something I avoid, I did enjoy the relationship between them and the sex did not completely turn me off.
When Lola finds herself having feelings for her best friend, Megan, she doesn’t know what to do. When a slow dance at graduation turns into a kiss, Lola can’t bear to speak to Megan for several days and soon, life takes them in different directions.
When they meet up again, ten years later, for their high school reunion, it’ll be the first chance they’ve had to talk since ’the kiss’. Will they finally get together, or will Lola lose her nerve once more?
Now, I am fine with people questioning their sexuality, and having concerns around the subject. I don’t mind people getting themselves upset in their confusion, so long as they don’t suffer too much and they’re allowed to be themselves eventually.
What I can’t bear is all of that followed by the word ‘deviation’ or ‘deviance’.
“It would’ve been so easy to come to her and taste her lips again. To indulge in my deviance and explore this unspeakable side of ourselves together.” 26% into Us, Here, Again by Scarlett Grace
Just, no. A character feeling bad about themselves is one thing. This is something quite other.
Sadly, there are tense changes all over the place as well as quite a lot of repetition, for example: “We hold each other’s gaze for a moment, an intense and significant moment, before Megan pushes off the railing. “I want to see the boats!” she announces. The question is like a punch in a gut. I know the answer to it even before Megan asked. I don’t exactly tell Megan ’no’ outright, instead I say, “I’m content with it.” We hold each other’s gaze for a moment before Megan pushes off the railing. “I want to see the boats!” she announces. 64-65% Us, Here Again by Scarlett Grace
I must confess I'm disappointed. I knew the premise wasn't groundbreaking in any sense, but I was hopeful that the simple story would prove to be just what I needed.
It wasn't.
The story needed more time to develop; the whole thing felt rushed. The characters had good starts to them; sturdy foundations. I wanted the rich complexities of the lives they lived without each other, and the plans they had to live their lives together. They seemed too well thought out to throw them away on thirty odd pages of a half spun web.
Short stories should be complete stories. They shouldn't leave you wanting. I wish Scarlett Grace would have just taken the plunge and written a full length novel. This could have been a love story I had gotten behind. 2/5
I love teenage stories, most likely because I didn't have the opportunity of living my teenage years openly. So these stories are always fascinating to me, because it's like being able rewrite my adolescence by imagining the dates I would've had, that first kiss that I really wished for, all the kisses I missed and all the things I couldn't experience. This story was spectacular! I really loved it. It was lovely, sexy and intense. I wasn't sure about reading this but now I'm truly glad I did.
I saw a promotion for a free copy of this novella on a FB group I follow. I like novella’s as a way to find new authors to read. The cover on this looked professional but the under 50 pages story is average. A first kiss at a high school graduation party and jump forward to meeting again at the ten year reunion. Everything felt very instant and without depth. (2.5 Stars)
This was my first book written by Scarlett Grace. The storyline was delightful and exciting. The characters where sexy and bought so much chemistry from the beginning. I enjoyed reading this book. Thanks
Lola and Megan are high school friends and Megan left town and went to Europe, Lola stayed in Cape and became a veterinarian. At their high school reunion the ladies meet again and have a date... Do long distances work?
The only thing that didn't make since was why was she see a guy. If all she can think about is Megan then she should not be see him. I know she was out to anybody but just didn't go with the storyline well
Book was too slow to get going. Annoyingly lola was lola hannigan except for the las chapter she was lola hawkins. Bad proof reading. I wont be recommending this book to anyone and womt be reading any more books by this author. It was so-so.
