Protect the family, best effort, no whining. That’s Papa’s ruleIn the aftermath of a devastating pandemic known as the Pretty Pox, Arie McInness and a small group of fellow survivors have been forced from the relative safety of an attic hideaway into the forest, carrying little more than the clothes on their backs.
This second installment of August Ansel's richly imagined post-apocalyptic series finds Arie and her ragtag family deep in the redwoods. Cold, hungry, and vulnerable, they're determined to travel on foot to God's Land--the troubled but familiar homestead in the hills where Arie was raised.
The road home, though, is strange and arduous, littered with other survivors. Discovering which of them are allies--and which are not--is now a matter of life and death.
Fans of The Dog Stars and Station Eleven will enjoy After the Pretty Shadow Road.
Praise for After the Pretty The Attic"While many post-apocalyptic novels cleverly portray the visual and environmental devastation and the friction of the relationships and struggles ensuing, After the Pretty The Attic shows the deeply personal, gentle-paced, introspective sense of isolation and human suffering and then the overcoming of it." "For me, this book is near perfection... I truly believe this story could become a classic in the genre." Amazon Reader Review
I read the first book in this series, right after it came out in 2016, After The Pretty Pox. It was a really interesting, overall good read. And it just really grabbed my attention. So I have been periodically watching, and waiting for a sequel. And finally!! It was well worth the wait, proving to be even better than book 1 in this series. Crossing my fingers that book 3, is not another 4 year wait!!
I was shocked when I turned the page and there was the epilogue! I actually said out loud, "It can't be over!" But it was--alas. August Ansel has such a way of bringing the story to life. Shadow Road: After the Pretty Pox was the second book in this series. I look forward to reading book three.
Whew! Another winning book in this series. Excellent character development and plenty of action and all around great writing. Can’t wait for the next installment!
Definitely have to read the first in the series to follow what is happening in this one. I like most of the characters though a few are horrible people.
