The year is 2020. In a spectacular and devastating attack, the NASA Expedition HQ has been destroyed. On the planet Mars, Zelda, commander of the androids, gathers her evil forces. Her aim: invasion of the Earth and total destruction of the human race.
On Earth, an elite fighting force is being gathered together by young military tactician Dr 'Tiger' Ninestein. Their purpose: to defend the world against the ruthless aggressors. On a secret base somewhere in South America this small, dedicated team develop the sophisticated weaponry they will need for the battles to come. And so begins the legendary story of the 'Terrahawks'!
An audiobook reading of the novel by Jack Curtis, based on the tv series created by Gerry Anderson and Christopher Burr.
Enjoyable and well read adaptation of the first few episodes of Terrahawks, in which evil android Zelda attacks the Earth and first encounters the intrepid Tiger Ninestein and his long suffering crew. It doesn’t feel much like a single story, probably because it isn’t one, so my attention wavered towards the end. Still, Robbie Stevens is excellent as all the characters, even if his rather calm reading doesn’t quite get across the manic strangeness of Terrahawks. The show is an acquired taste but this makes for a jolly companion piece.
This audiobook's an adaptation of the first two-part Terrahawks story Expect the Unexpected. As a story, it's pretty good. It's not amazing or eye-popping. However, it sets the stage for the conflict between Zelda and Ninestein. Alsoa, as an adaptation, it does provide quite a few details that are hard to communicate in a visual medium. Most of these, I'd already picked up/guessed at by listening to the Big Finish series as well as the TV episodes I watched but a few actually surprised me. Probably the most remarkable thing that the book did is really explore and show the reason why Ninestein had such a problem with Sgt. Major Zero, which isn't because Ninestein's not nice. I mean Ninestein isn't nice, but that's not the only reason he pushes back on Zero so much.
The voices are very authentic to the series, particularly the male voices. One big thing that threw me a little was that Robbie Stevens used the British pronunciation of "Lieutenant" when the TV series always used the American, particularly with Ninestein.
This is kind of a nice primer for Terrahawks as a series. If you're curious about the series, particularly after watching a few episodes, this will give you a slightly deeper dive into what the series is all about.
