Checked In: An Autumn Rain Mystery

Rate this book
A check-in at a bed and breakfast almost turns into a checked-out for Autumn Rain.

Autumn Rain hadn’t planned to spend any part of her honeymoon at a bed and breakfast run by her new in-laws, but when her father-in-law comes under suspicion in a man’s sudden disappearance, she and her homicide detective husband are pulled into the investigation.

As they search for answers, it becomes clear that someone wanted the missing man out of the picture—and violently so. But who?

Suspects begin to line up, but without a body, Autumn’s special ability to read emotions and scenes printed on certain objects becomes vital in their race to dig up the truth.

She only hopes it’s not the wrong truth because her father-in-law, Holt Martin, has a secret—one he never wants his son to know.

As Autumn races to piece together the puzzle, more innocent lives are put at risk. She must solve the mystery before someone else goes missing—permanently.

A compelling paranormal mystery thriller for fans of Medium and Ghost Whisperer.

Teyla Branton

Teyla Rachel Branton grew up avidly reading science fiction and fantasy and watching Star Trek reruns with her large family. They lived on a little farm where she loved to visit the solitary cow and collect (and juggle) the eggs, usually making it back to the house with most of them intact. On that same farm she once owned thirty-three gerbils and eighteen cats, not a good mix, as it turns out. Teyla always had her nose in a book and daydreamed about someday creating her own worlds. She is now married, mostly grown up, and has seven kids, so life at her house can be very interesting (and loud), but writing keeps her sane. She thrives on the energy and daily amusement offered by her children, the semi-ordered chaos giving her a constant source of writing material. Grabbing any snatch of free time from her hectic life, Teyla writes novels full of mystery, romance, and imagination. She warns her children that if they don’t behave, they just might find themselves in her next book! She’s been known to wear pajamas all day when working on a deadline, and is often distracted enough to burn dinner. (Okay, pretty much 90% of the time.) A sign on her office door reads: DANGER. WRITER AT WORK. ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK. She loves writing fiction and traveling, and she hopes to write and travel a lot more. She also loves shooting guns, martial arts, and belly dancing. She has worked in the publishing business for over twenty years.

I love this series and always am excited when a new book releases. Checked In was no exception and I happily read through this book. Autumn and her husband Shannon just had the first part of their honeymoon, for the second part they're staying at his parent's bed and breakfast. They have another mystery to solve while they're there.

Autumn and Shannon know there is more to the reason why his parents asked them to stay with them for their second week of their honeymoon and that's proven true when they arrive to find two police officers interested in Shannon's father and think he is behind the disappearance of a man. What follows is a twisty mystery with Autumn trying to find out who caused the man's disappearance, but not only that, it seems there is more going on. And Shannon's father is keeping a secret too, she just has to find out what.

I liked the mystery in this one, the way it developed over the course of the book with new facts and evidence popping up. And then there was Shannon's father who is a suspect, they are sure he has nothing to do with this, but Autumn quickly realizes there is a secret he is keeping that he doesn't want them to find out. I like how Autumn's unique ability to read imprints plays a part in the mystery as well as hew new ability with the cold sensations where she learns more about in this book.

I liked the multiple twists in the mystery and how it kept me guessing. Even with only four or so suspects, I never was quite sure who was behind it and kept going back and forth between them. And then I thought I had things nailed down, but then new evidence popped up. It was interesting that one of guesses turned out right and it was great to see things fall on it's place and also sad to see what the culprit did. I liked the way things got wrapped up.

The change of setting worked well in this book. While some of the usual side characters weren't present, there are some new side characters here to play that role, as well as some additional characters/ suspects. I liked the change of setting and seeing Autumn and Shannon help with the mystery here in Florida and see Autumn get to know his parents a bit.

To summarize: This was another great read. This series continues to stay strong with a new exciting mystery in each book as well as progression of the characters and Autumn's powers. I liked the mystery in this one, it kept me guessing even with only a few suspects I was never quite sure who was behind it. I liked how things made sense when they fell on it's place toward the end. Besides the main mystery there is also a secret that Shannon's father is keeping as well as Autumn getting to know Shannon's parents. I thought the change of setting worked well in this book and while some of the usual side characters were absent, there were plenty of new ones to fill in that role. Another great read and I can't wait for more Imprints books!

Does one’s will always produce the desired outcome?

I have been enjoying this series. Each book is a different mystery and can be read as a stand-alone although there is a developing romance between Autumn Rain and Shannon…
Now, in Book #8, having just gotten married, their honeymoon is interrupted by a family crisis – Shannon’s father is suspected of murder. Holt’s son and daughter-in-law are the crime-stopper duo who can solve the crime and come to his rescue. Yet, it is not as easy as all that. There are several interesting characters that apparently have a motive. What’s on the line? – inheriting a resort hotel in Florida.

What makes this detective story most intriguing is Autumns paranormal ability to read items by touch – like reading the person’s thoughts at the time they held the object. This always arouses my curiosity. However, there is much to be sorted out and you are kept guessing up until the end. If you like a good, clean, mystery to nestle into then definitely read this book.

Autumn just got married and is on her honeymoon with Shannon, her detective husband. They are visiting his family and must use their skills to help his dad who is a suspect in a murder. Yet another wonderfully written mystery that is part of a very well-written series. The great thing is that you can read it no matter how many other of the series have been read prior. Autumn's powers continue to develop and help in solving many mysteries. Branton continues to give new plots and overall stories. I received a free ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review .

I thought I was keeping up with this series and pre-ordered "Checked In", believing it was the next one. Turns out I missed two, and I can't figure out how that happened. Anyway, I love this series and, especially in this book, getting to know Shannon's family, after his dad is accused of murder. I loved the progression of the story and how the clues played out. This is one you'll have a hard time putting down!

And I have now purchased the two I missed but wish I'd read them in order.

I have read and enjoyed the whole series, however this one held one problem for me.you

I understand twanie could not be there but Autumn called Eli several times the part when Autumn was shot at. In all previous books the two would have connected even Cody had that connection. Now Autumn is in trouble zip, zilch nothing from either of them. Disappointed to the max

LOVED it! IT was the perfect ending to an amazing series. I think it's the end, maybe not. I love these characters I love the twists and turns in it. I will admit I knew who it was I just hoped I was wrong but I was not. I love putting the pieces together in Teyla's books. The characters come alive and you know and love each one. Love this book!

Now that Autumn is married, it's honeymoon time. What luck that her new husband's parents own a bed & breakfast in sunny Florida. If only the police weren't investigating her new father in law for murder.

Page turning series

I don't normally buy the books offered after reading the first one for free, however in this case I bought and read all 8 books in this series. I would highly recommend to anyone who likes a page turning mystery.

Very well done story

This book really keeps you turning the pages to find out how things come together. I liked that Autumn is becoming part of another family and they are happy to have her with their son.

Love this series!

Can Teyla Branton possibly write a book I don't think is absolutely perfect? Doubt it! This is the third series of hers I cannot get enough of. Highly recommended!

Fun little read

I had it figured out before the end sadly. Still fun to read. There were some details I hadn’t thought of.
