This is the eleventh book of 12, in a long series of steampunk adventure books. Set in a magical fantasy version of the Victorian era, the Clockwork Twist series follows an unassuming and introverted clockmaker from London, named Twist. When a clockwork princess needs his help, Twist find himself on an adventures around the world surrounded by airship pirates, secret societies, treasure hunters, vampires, dragons, magical kitsune, and even a genie or two. Are you all caught up?
The Cyphers have joined the fae in their war on the Rooks, and now they've captured Aden, leaving the Rooks scattered. With dangers on all side and no one left to fight for humanity, Kima suddenly finds herself, and her son, in the center of everything.
The Rooks have been at war with the fae for a while now, doing their best to defend themselves and all of the Sighted from the murderous fairies. Now that the Cyphers have joined the fae, the evil Lord Loki has taken Kima's home village, and turned it into a flying, invisible fortress. A magical blood-lock now stands as an impenetrable barrier around the village, that only a native of the village can cross. Aden, and everyone of Kima's family, are now trapped inside with the Cyphers and the fae. Kima and her son, Pahmut, are the only ones who might still be able to get inside.
When Twist's old friends, Tasha and Niko appear in the middle of the night to plead for Kima's help to rescue Aden, everyone must put their own personal dissatisfaction with the man aside for the good of mankind. Kima agrees to help, and only reluctantly allows her son to come with her to the battle. He is, after all, more familiar with fairy magic than anyone else on Earth, and he may be the only one who can break the spell.
With tensions building between friends, and dangers on all sides, Twist and his companions set out for war, to save an enemy and rest of the world along with him.
Book 11 and I still cannot get enough of this series, especially now that things are really heating up for Twist and Jonas as the war is on between the evil fae and the human sighted, and obviously they are in extreme danger. They have been kept hidden from the fae by invisibility charms and enchantments which Pahmut put on their airship but they have been hunted before by Storm and are two of the most wanted by the fae. they are unique in that they are two halves of the same fae soul, that of Jack Frost, so both the winter and the summer queens want them killed, one together and one apart, yet killed nonetheless. Aden is taken prisoner by the cyphers and Lord Loki, leader of the cyphers has taken over Kima's village and her people to gather the sighted and help the fae to kill them. Once Tasha tells them what is going on obviously Kima wants to rescue her people so the crew of the Icarus all go to the rescue and into tremendous danger. Pahmut is the only one able to release what he calls a blood-lock which Loki is using to keep others from entering Kima's village up in the clouds. They go to battle with the cyphers and to release Aden but as usual things take turns they never expected and they are surviving on faith alone in the end. And this is the first book in the series which leaves us with a cliffhanger ending so I am off to start reading book 12 which should bring us to the end of what has been one long adventure from start to finish and I am hoping against hope that both Twist and Jonas survive in the end.
Since this is book 11 in the series of 12 and I've given them all 4 stars and reviewed most of them, I can only say - if you like pure fantasy, with characters you can get to know and invest in, start from book 1. Most has been revealed by now of the mysteries in the story and I'm currently devouring book 12, Closure, to find out how it all ends. See you in a couple of days, when I'll know if the Closure of the title was, indeed satisfactory!
This story is reaching its end and I am amazed that it has not even been a full year of the Twist life. Happy to see the end yet saddened to say goodbye to these great folks.
I have been so wrapped up with this series and love this adventure! There are so many wonderful characters with fantastic creatures, magical moments and danger. Descriptions are vivid making it easy to imagine. On to the next book!
The intrepid crew are forced to fight for their lives. New allies make the fight a success. The book ends in a cliff hanger. I can't wait to read the last book in the series to learn how all the problems are resolved.
Another exciting adventure! The next book is the final in the series, and I am anticipating and dreading it. I want to know what happens, but I will be sorry the story is ended.
