Before he was Sherlock’s rival, Moriarty fought against the unfair class caste system in London by making sure corrupt nobility got their comeuppance. But even the most well-intentioned plans can spin out of control—will Moriarty’s dream of a more just and equal world turn him into a hero…or a monster?
After successfully establishing a foothold in Durham and cleansing the city of some of its corruption, William James Moriarty sets his sights on London. To make headway there, he needs the aid of his brother Albert. But while on his way to London, William is kidnapped by a gang of criminals! Will Albert be able to save him in time?
It will eventually get old seeing Moriarty be so much smarter than those he goes up against, but we're not quite at that point yet. And the potential solution to that issue, Sherlock Holmes, is introduced in this volume. This Sherlock is more flamboyant, assured, and socially adept than some portrayals, but he's still manipulative and single minded when it comes to deduction. Watson makes an appearance too, and h's a pretty standard Watson (and endearing for that as well) It's fun to see his and Moriarty's first meetings and sparring. The general theme of "secret history" and Moriarty masterminding criminal acts in the name of overturning an unfair social caste system of corrupt nobles is still compelling. I'm interested to see where this is going.
**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Note: I didn’t read the bonus chapter as it’s not on the ShonenJump app.
Volume two was even better than volume one! The stakes are higher and the story got a lot more interesting with Sherlock joining the mix. I’m also loving the interactions between some of the side characters, especially Moran/Albert and Mrs. Hudson/John. I can’t wait to keep reading to see what happens next.
noahtic act should be commemorated as a historical moment for the lgbtq people because that's when sherlock and william, the genius super gay individuals, meet for the first time
This volume was even better than the first I really liked how Sherlock was introduced I am really looking forward to where the story goes from here. I am still loving the characters especially William I just love how well he plans things out I like his personality in general I also really liked Sherlock he was well introduced a really interesting character. I am really liking the plot William is doing more to try to cause some kind of change and doing things his own way to change the corrupt system. I really liked how Sherlock and his lot were introduced since they are the complete opposite of William and his people so things should play out differently. I just really like this story it is really good will continue it soon.
I have to say, I think I enjoyed the Anime's version of the Noahtic Arc a lot more... I love seeing the differences between the Anime and the Manga, but I definitely enjoyed the previous volume more!
In Chapter 4, I wish the plan of how Liam able to figure out on the kidnapping will be much detailed. Me being a dumb and brainless creature need more sort of like extension so I can full in awe with that brain of yours, Liam 👀
In Chapter 5 & 6 (The Noathic arc), we finally met the full fledged bad and rotten noble who thirsted for the blood he called commoner, “animal”. Gosh, the moment he got the punishment he deserved, I FEEL GOLDEN NGL.
Here, we witnessed how Moriarty’s status acts as weapon or metaphorically, knife that stabbed behind your back. The noble really didn’t see it coming.
And hello, SIR SHERLOCK WHY ARE YOU JUST- so hot!! Okay, enough of that but his introduction with his deduction, that’s it..that’s the very Sherlock’s significance.
We also been clarified from the perspective of Moriarty’s side that their scheme acts as a trigger/catalyst of change in the unequal system when lives hanging on a thread of death.
In Chapter 7 (A Study in Scarlet, Act I), the familiar case!! I couldn’t wait to know more of it. I love the introduction of both Miss Hudson and Dr. Watson.
But let me get this line a spotlight, shall we?
“And that detective will be the protagonist of our play. We’ll see if he has that potential with this audition”
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this series, but I continue to be surprised. In this volume, we finally get some interaction with Holmes and Watson. We also spend a significant amount of time with them. Though I enjoyed that, I found myself missing the Moriarty brothers, and wondering what mischief they were up to. Looking forward to the next volume for sure.
What a silly clown man Also we don't have enough evidence to deny that Sherly was trying to flirt when he talked about the stairs 3.5 stars bc I like the anime version more
As an exceptionally young professor, William James Moriarty has started to make a reputation for himself. He and his brothers have turned their sights on London and they are slowly trying to create more chaos for the aristocracy. Their circle of conspirators grows a little wider, we are introduced to MI-6 and the role it might play in their future. The biggest surprise here was the addition of Sherlock Holmes. I was only surprised because it's only volume two and I sort of figured we would need more time before he showed up and changed their plans. The rivalry hasn't begun here, but the seeds are planted.
Again, plot/pacing/art were all great and kept me reading at a clip. Looking forward to picking up the next installment and seeing how serious it gets.
I love how refreshingly different Sherlock is portrayed in this series! It was great watching his first meeting with Watson, too. I'm really glad I picked up this series!
