With over a decade of experience working in digtial media outlets and a certified Reiki Master, Whitney Jefferson Evans is both a pop culture aficionado and a modern-day spiritual seeker. In 2014, she began to study the energy healing method of Reiki and eventually became a Reiki Master in 2018. She spends her free time learning about other healing modalities, cooking, making art, doing yoga, Reiki, meditating, and seeking out new things to add to her arsenal of self-care.

In her day job, Whitney serves as Managing Editor of BuzzFeed.com, where she works across the website and is able to write about pop culture, wellness, and vegan food. She’s hosted shows on IFC and Sirius XM, appeared on the Today Show, CNN, MTV, VH1, HLN, Nightline, Entertainment Tonight, Extra, and had the pleasure of “bartending” on Watch What Happens Live.

I loved this book. I am a student of ancient history and the universe and humans coming from the stars is of a natural order in my reflections.
As one exploring the idea of starseeds for the first time, I found The Beginner’s Guide to Starseeds to be clear, organized, and surprisingly comforting. The book breaks down a complex spiritual topic into manageable pieces, making it easy to follow without feeling overwhelming or confusing. It felt more like a guided introduction than a deep dive, which made it especially approachable.
The section on the first wave of starseeds—often associated with the Indigo generation born between 1957 and 1977—was particularly interesting. The author explains this concept in a grounded, thoughtful way that avoids fear-based narratives. Instead of focusing on dramatic ideas about extraterrestrials, the book reframes the conversation around consciousness, purpose, and spiritual origins in a way that feels balanced and calm.

This book gave a good overview of what Starseeds are, the various families, and the characteristics of each one. It also had quizzes to help you find out whether you’re a Starseed at all, and if so, which family(s).

I’m very interested in this topic, but really only the chapter on Andromedans spoke to me (and that’s not even my number-one family according to the quiz). I’m surprised I didn’t like this book more than I did.

The title says it all. If you have heard about starseeds but know NOTHING about it, here’s your cliffs notes version before taking a deeper dive.
My only qualm was the writing. I kept thinking it read like a cheesy online article, then found out the author is the editor for Buzzfeed. It reads like Buzzfeed.

This book is an overview and introduction to Starseeds and started families. It opens the door to explore the idea of galactic families and ancestry that one can decide to explore to gain a better understanding of self. Upon conclusion, I'm definitely more interested in digging deeper into my potential origins and learning more about my own psychic abilities and spiritual connections.
