Level up your stargazing skills and learn to interpret your own astrological birth chart with this fun, accessible guide to the twelve houses of the zodiac, perfect for armchair astrologers everywhere!
So you know your sun sign, rising sign, and moon sign…but what about the rest of your birth chart? It’s no longer enough to just to know you’re a Scorpio or read your horoscope. After all, delving deeper into our natal charts and the nuances of the astrological world can offer us a rich, exciting tapestry of our innate preferences, relationships, choices, and destiny
For those in the know, the zodiac calendar is divided into twelve houses, each ruled by a different sign (Aquarius, Scorpio, Gemini, etc.) and said to govern a particular set of traits. When we’re born, where the planets were stationed relative to those houses inform our natural tendencies. Understanding each house can bring detailed insights about every aspect of your peoples’ first impression of you, to your values, communication, pleasure, home and family, partnership, and beyond.
In order to fully understand our place in the universe we need to understand the meaning of each planet, the house it’s stationed in, and what that interaction means. Going house by house, practicing astrologer and artist Rachel Stuart-Haas teaches you how to create and interpret your unique birth chart, making this often dense and complicated layer of astrology accessible for newcomers and astrology enthusiasts alike.
With her expert guidance, you will gain insight into questions -Where will I feel at home? -What career paths fulfill me? -What do I need in a partner? -What makes me feel abundant?
Perfect for anyone who has ever been curious about their place in the world, The House Your Stars Built is a must-have and beautiful resource for astrology lovers.
First, thank you too Goodreads, as well as the author and the publisher of this book for sending me a free copy from a giveaway.
I found this book an enjoyable and educational read. It's a little bit more homework-y than just simply reading it though; you will ideally look up your chart and follow along as the author explains what the major parts mean. It was well-written and informative.
I did feel that it lacked a reference to which houses and planets are linked (although this does get shown in a few examples along the way). It also doesn't have a reference to what characteristics each planet has. Some of the meanings of certain planets get explained along the way, but a reference list would be nice.
awful. strongly pop astrology based. half of what is said must be disregarded bc it is straight up Wrong. another significant portion is just misguided, or simplified to incorrectness. however, i do have a very base understanding of the houses now.
Thank you to both NetGalley and Tiller Press for providing me with an advance copy of Rachel Stuart-Haas’s astrological work, The House Your Stars Built, in exchange for an honest review.
The House Your Stars Built offers a basic overview of how to read and understand an astrological birth chart based on your zodiac sign. If you are already familiar with this practice, then this book is probably too simplistic for you. However, if you know absolutely nothing about reading astrological charts, then this book might be a good starting point.
*thank you to the publisher for my early review copy*
This had a ton of really great information. The explanations and examples were fantastic. However, I really felt that this would benefit tremendously from illustrations. At many times I was left confused because there was no chart or image to explain the presented information. I am a highly visual learner and I think would have learned more with relevant illustrations. (I do note that this is an eARC so it’s possible that illustrations were just not included in my review copy.) I don’t think that this book is a one stop shop for all things astrology, but I do think it’s an awesome resource. I think if illustrations are included in the final published piece, this would be a great choice for beginners. I’m excited to revisit after publication. Overall, I had a positive reading experience and I learned a lot about reading my own chart.
It’s a good primer and offers information that makes reading charts easier but it is going to be repetitive if you have read other astrology books before.
I will start off by saying that I love the books page and cover design - which completely makes sense considering the author herself has a BFA in design but in terms of the written content, it was a bit lackluster for me. I picked up this book hoping to expand my astrological knowledge and although it touches on some key points, there were some issues in the way the information is delivered (scattered and at times vague). I also didn’t care much for some of the hand-drawn symbols that reappear throughout the book (Aries, Jupiter, Capricorn, Scorpio, Sagittarius). The author also asserts that there is,”no such thing as a sign cusp”. Which I have to strongly disagree with.
Three or four? three or four? I'm going with four as that's what the target audience would feel it as. The bummer for me was I overestimated my zodiacical knowledge. I thought having my chart done thirty years ago meant I wasn't a beginner.
So after you learn your star chart this should be your next astrological book. It wasn't meant for this Scorpio-Sagittarius with a Cancer moon.
I was excited to win this book and I checked the mail daily hoping the astrology book by an artist would be there.
This is a wonderful book, packed full of information. I do feel it might not be the best book for beginners but it really does give some valuable insight into astrology. Obviously, you need to have your birth chart to be able to really understand anything but this is a great book and I need to buy a copy to have handy in my collection. :)
Good for those who want to further their astrology studies and move into reading charts. Some intro to the signs but goes to different areas of the houses in an astrological chart. Good addition.
incredible helpful. I would have loved for some parts to be more in depth, I do love details. The tone is playful, I liked it. All in all very informative, and nicely put together
Amazing beginner astrology book! I finished this books and Rachel’s other book close to each other and they go very well together. I’d recommend buying both! I did!
Brilliant little book to educate yourself on the foundations of Astrology, I'd highly recommend it for anyone wanting to begin taking a deeper dive into chart reading.
