Ken and his EngiNerds crew return in another nutty and nerdy adventure as they face down an alien to save the planet!
Alien invasion? At the end of Revenge of the EngiNerds an alien appeared, and it turns out he’s the real deal. He explains he was sent to Earth as an envoy to scope things out for a planned massive, futuristic billboard—which will mean demolishing the planet! Here? On Earth? In their town? Not if the EngiNerds have anything to say about it. Time to save the day and the planet!
The third (and final) book in the EngiNerds series is my absolute favorite. Yes, there are still great fart references. And yep, Kitty the dog is still, well, Kitty. And yes, John Henry Knox is still super smart (and annoying). All things my middle grade student readers and I loved about books 1 and 2.
But book 3? Wow. Jarrett goes all out in this finale to the series. In fact, we have aliens. Aliens who want to obliterate Earth in order to place a GIANT billboard on it to advertise, what else: beans. And why did the aliens choose Earth as the location for their giant billboard? Simple. Because after observing us Earthlings for a while, it appears (to the aliens) that we don’t really care for the planet we call home, anyway. And if we Earthlings aren’t smart enough to take care of the planet we live on, then it shouldn’t be a big deal if they demolish our planet, right?
Once again, it’s up to Ken and the EngiNerds to save the day, this time from aliens from planet Plerp-5. Luckily they have a friend in Bem, a young alien who’s been observing the kids battle robots and cumulous rain clouds (books 1 & 2) and has come to warn them about the plan. Will Ken and his friends be able to stop the Plerpians? Of course they will, but read this amazing book to find out HOW!
The alien names, the way they dress, the dialogue between the EngiNerds…all laugh out loud funny. But there’s one additional point I need to make. As a middle grade teacher, it brings me such JOY to note the power Jarrett sees in our students, as witnessed in these lines from page 69: “Plerpians believe that the younger a mind is, the more flexible it can be, the more creative and innovative its ideas can be.”
Thank you for always being a champion for our kids, Jarrett.
What a fantastic and to the series! Just when you think there are no more nerdy fart jokes to be made, Ken and company surprise you.
This is definitely a series that should be read in order, and my only beef about this one is that it sounds like the end.
Somehow, this book is the most brilliant in this very strong series. Lerner’s genius includes poignant lessons about selflessness and climate control, embedded in toilet humor.
Another fun EngiNerds adventure. This time the earth is in trouble, threatened by alien invaders, and the EngiNerds must find a way to use their skills to save the planet. It's not going to be easy, but there are plenty of adventures and laughs along the way.
