Deadpool brings his inimitable style, foul-mouthed humor, and notorious skill with a blade to the kitchen in this hilarious take on a traditional cookbook, featuring classic recipes with a Deadpool spin and a whole lotta chimichangas.
No super hero takes food quite as seriously as Deadpool. In this gorgeously designed cookbook that paid reviewers have described as “glorious” and “the best cookbook I’ve ever read,” Deadpool offers his take on a curated collection of epicurean classics. Narrated by the wisecracking super hero (and sexy master chef) himself, this book also incudes recipes inspired by some of his closest friends/enemies (Here’s lookin’ at you, Spidey) and his favorite meals, including chimichangas, tacos, pancakes, and hamburgers with no pickles.
This comprehensive culinary guide is complete with recipe modification suggestions, illustrations, and mouthwatering full-color photography. This is the ultimate gift for seasoned cooks and Marvel fans alike!
TACO TUESDAY WITH DEADPOOL! CHIMICHANGAS GALORE! NUFF SAID! This was a really fun book! Disneyland should have a taco truck drive around and sell the food in this book- bet it would sell a lot of food! Taco Bell should also get some Deadpool items on their menu - and don't forget the limited edition comics with your Deadpool meal!
Reading Cooking with Deadpool has been a blast. Not only was it funny but the recipes are practical, appealing, and do not require hard to find ingredients. The authors Mark Sumerak and Elena P. Craig succeeded, where Justin Warner the author of Marvel Eat the Universe failed. You do not need be a wiz in the kitchen to cook these recipes. Plus it shows you step by step how to do things like roll a chimichanga and spatchcocking a chicken. Some of the dishes I want try include:
A bunch of recipes with commentary by Deadpool. The recipes are easy to understand, mostly bar type food and party food but with some regular meals and deserts thrown in. Starts with poutine, because 'Canada'. And, of course, chimichangas.
The Deadpool commentary is funny and does not interfere with the recipes. And there are pictures. Of Deadpool. The food, not so much.
I loved it! Deadpool is one of my favorite Marvel heroes and this cookbook was a perfect mix of his humor and some yummy recipes. I can't wait to try a few and am glad to add this to my cookbook collection.
This was a birthday or Christmas gift from my Bride last year. You'd think that a cookbook by a fictional character would mostly be useful for entertainment enjoyment purposes and not be very useful to a professional chef and culinary teacher. Yet, this has got to be one of the most technically sound cookbooks that I have ever encountered in the celebrity chef/series franchise cookbook realm.
Segments are on advanced culinary terms like mise en place and spatchcock chicken. Articles on menu planning and the right types of knives to use abound in this book. There's some basic baking and chocolate work. Add in breakfast cookery, appetizers and breakfast and Cooking With Deadpool feels like the year-long Culinary Arts I course that I teach 9th-12th graders! Except Deadpool and his creative team don't seem to mind taking photos of work and the various steps more trickier recipes need in order to be successful executed!
That's not to say that this cookbook isn't oozing with Wade Wilson's signature off-kilter look on things. Each recipe has an introduction made by Deadpool that will dive into his past history as inspiration for the dish. Friend and X-Man Cable provides a couple of recipes for the book. Tex-Mex cooking gets a lot of love in this book. Spider-Man provides his Aunt May's famous recipe of wheat cakes! And yes! There is an entire chapter devoted to the Merc With a Mouth's beloved chimichangas!
While I did really appreciate the technical merits of this book, I did feel like some of the ingredient choices were odd. Okay- it's a cookbook written by Deadpool. It's not supposed to be totally normal. For instance, the tres leches cake uses pomegranate for moisture and garnish. That just sounds strange to me. The Latin American restaurant down the street from me uses cherries and it's A-MAZE-ING! So when it comes to the ingredient lists, feel free to adjust the recipe as needed without changing the steps. I'm making the ceviche recipe for my wife, but I didn't put as much onion or jalapeno as I know that's not quite her taste. As for some of the fusion dishes, like the beef stroganoff inspired meat pies, I admire the creativity and inspiration. Putting chopped celery in a tuna casserole is just blasphemy.
A book that teaches about cooking while very much full of Deadpool humor and lore!
This cookbook is INCREDIBLE. The recipes are exceedingly delicious—every last one of them!—and the writing is thoroughly entertaining. Deadpool’s humor delights on every page (Marc Sumerak REALLY nails this character’s voice!!!) and you will laugh out loud at his snarky and witty comments on the recipes! I will cook every recipe in this book someday—that’s a promise I’ve made to myself—but I’ve made half a dozen of them so far and they’ve all been a 10/10! DEFINITELY buy this book! The presentation is show-stopping and the recipes ARE elevated! You can serve these dishes at a fancy dinner party or for a weeknight meal with your family. You will not be disappointed. And it cracks me up that there is a double-page spread on choosing the right knife for the job because, you know, it’s a DEADPOOL COOKBOOK!!!
am i really shelving a cookbook just because it’s deadpool? yes, yes i am. 4 stars because i love deadpool and cooking, but if you’re gonna do “deadpool narrates a cookbook” then you have to get his voice right (it wasn’t quite, which makes sense since the author is not an established deadpool writer) and you need to commit to the bit (deadpool is not serious about or educated on anything, so that should’ve been reflected in his narration, given that he only does little intros to each recipe/section, not the recipes themselves).
i like the tips/guides that are sprinkled throughout, but i wish there had been more pictures. petition to require a photo of every single recipe in cookbooks!!!!!
This was really cute. The recipes are actually really achievable for the most part, nothing super fancy, so it would actually be a useful cookbook to have around. Other than the names of the dishes and some inserted comics and humorous remarks, it's not super Deadpooly. But that's ok bc it's a cookbook. Lots of chimichangas, though...
A cookbook of classic recipes renamed for Deadpool fans. The recipes aren't new or exciting (to me), but if they get Deadpool and comic book fans to cook more at home, then the cookbook has succeeded.
Hilarious! I loved reading through it. Haven't had a chance to test any of the recipes yet, but there's definitely some that are on my to-do list and from what I can see, they look solid. Only gripe is it's hard to tell what the recipes are for because they all have funny names.
