Hordes of alien monsters are breeding on Pluto. The shield protecting Sol is failing. Can Jake save Earth from infestation and annihilation?

After his triumph on Pax, Jake returns home to Earth. In far northern Canada his grandfather hid an outpost that may have the solution.

The town sheriff thinks he's an imposter, unnamed government agencies would love to vivisect him, and powerful forces lurk in the shadows.

Even with his grandfather's powerful legacy, will Jake have what it takes to stop the threat to Earth?

If you're a fan of space opera, visceral science-fiction combat, and powerful heroes fighting to save civilization, then you'll love this LitRPG book from Shadow Alley Press.

I re-read the previous book, which I really liked, to refresh my memory for the sequel. Unfortunately I needn’t have bothered, as all the stuff I liked, like the tension and fun discovery elements, in the first book are gone. Jake straps into a huge suit of armour at the start and basically spends the rest of the book flying around in it, blowing things up and shouting. There’s a weak attempt at an X-Files-type subplot but it doesn’t really make any sense. A big disappointment for me.

Book two

Mistakes: I didn’t find any mistakes in this book.

Plot: This is actually a good setup book. It sets the foundation for books in the future. No real base building in this one, but I expect a lot in book three as well as recruitment.

Characters: I like all of them so far except the sister. I’m sure she will have a bigger role in book three.

8/10

Alert

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.

To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.

To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.

To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

The 2nd book in a LitRPG series which can be classed as a space opera and a sci-fi series is jam packed with action as we travel across the universe with Jake who had already triumphed on Pax but who had returned to his grandfather's outpost on earth to seek a solution in order to save his home planet, Earth from annihilation. Back home he is seen as an imposter, no one believes his good intentions and many try to stop him however Jake is a true hero who is set to continue the battle with monsters who are fast breeding on Pluto and to stop the shield of Sol from failing before Earth is burnt to a crisp. He does all this with the aid of his AI engineer Metra, and his core controller, Brick which is a first as ferals were not previously trusted by the humans out in space, but as Jake travels to the spike to save Regar he warns him that he is not in a position to be picky or offensive to his friends. Can Jake, Metra and Brick save the world?

More scifi litrpg

This was an awesome book to read. I enjoyed it and the story arc setting. The MC is always into some kind of scrap and is definitely less careful than he should be. As a plus he like explosives so yay. The story takes the MC and his band all over the system but the future may have more travel outside the solar system. Seems like the story arc includes some of the government coverup ideals but I'm ok with that and it adds some realism to the series. I am curious where the track with his sister ends. Probably with her and give being responsible for missing granddad and or parents fate. We will see. I guess the MC isn't going to get the space babes...... looking forward to the next hope the wait is short.

Decent story, though I have to say, I didn't expect some of the plot turns this one took. It's a decent continuation to the series, and I look forward to more, though I'm not sure where the story will go next. That's not a bad thing, it just means I'll be surprised no matter what happens. The storyline started in the first book isn't exactly wrapped up here, but it's certainly brought to a place where it could be left for a book or two to explore other pieces of the universe, though it doesn't look like that's very likely. In any case, I think anything else published in this series will be interesting regardless of where it's focus is pointed.

A Fun Action Flick

This series feels like a great, simple action movie. Think Commando or The Expendables. The characters aren’t very deep, but the ride is fun and entertaining. I dig the structure of the universe and the idea of insane nanobots permeating reality. It’s a solid foundation.

One final thing to mention: I feel like there are some glaring loose ends at the end of the book. Ones that I’m not sure will be addressed. The heroes supposedly saved the day, but there was no verification that they did so. It was assumed their actions achieved the desired goal. Not the best note to end on.

Anyway. I’ll definitely pick up the next entry.

Disappointing sequel that loses its litrpg core.

While there are still a handful of use of the sci-fi remade litrpg mechanics that made the first book interesting, almost all are gone. The second book of the Last Enclave is basically a standard science-fiction story, with bits of litrpg still attached here and there.

As science-fiction novel goes, it's not a very innovative or good one. There are several suspension of disbelief required, twists that make no sense when they occur, and an overall sense of a poor amateur scifi story. I am almost certain not to continue the series.

This is sad, since science-fiction themed litrpg are rare.

Great step for the series.

This wa an amazing read, stellar sci-fi features and killer action scenes meet Litrpg in a brilliant mix of greatness.

I'm not big for spoiling books but the character development was so much fun in this story and the growth of the universe is viewed blew my mind. There was an a couple twists in the s to run that I didn't see coming that ble web my mi me and made the book even better.

I highly recommend picking this and the first book up in the ser ur an as they are both gems.

Super solid very strong 5 stars. I loved it! This was even better than the first. I love the whole system and way tech is handled in this. The story had strong pacing, solid characters, and an MC was very balanced that made reasonable mistakes from time to time but then adapted and improved. No easy wins and everything seemed to have consequence. Great ending that laid the ground work for an even better follow up that I hope will come. Also you can tell I just could not put this one down and knocked it out in 2 days. Yes it was that good!

Disappointing stop at 49%

I’m super into crunchy base building. The thing that killed this for me was: what’s the first thing the hero did once he upgraded and cleared his base? He goes back to Earth to fight the military.

I read litrpg and sci-fi for escapism. IDGAF about how the hero’s upgrades compare to a fighter jet. IDGAF about modern, everyday Earth. I get enough of it IRL.

Fun

So the MC goes on an interstellar arms race and tries to outsmart an AI and a secret branch of the government. Rather than a growth learning and expansion dungeon story, it’s more of a shoehorned spy, action, chosen one savior thing. Lots of luck and convenient tech that gets custom made at the drop of a hat. It’s a fun read. Enjoy.

Great continuation of the previous story.
The story is good. We get to meet some new adventurers and the plot thickens - both good things.
The pace of the story is excellent. Not once did I get bored or wonder what was happening. Some nice little twists to the story as well.
I look forward to the next one so that should sum it up.
Read it. You'll like it.

Really good

This book is the second in the series and is mostly straight adventure, fights, and a small bit of base building. This book advances the storyline nicely and has some subtle twists to it that really brought the book together for me. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

Damn! A great read!

In the veins of stellar survival quest and perimeter defense, the Second installment in the series does not disappoint! Action packed, full of character development, and excellent narration, this book has it all! In a world full of fantasy lit RPG, this sci-fi is a breath of fresh air!

Good

Better than the first book, but I found that there were still sections and paragraphs that I skipped that just did not interested me. But a good story overall and I'm looking forward to the third installment.

A quick pace and fun plot

The story had an even quicker pace for most of it, then the first book.

The plot was fun and swerved in directions that provided an interesting outlook on the possibilities of future books.

Looking forward to them!

A worthy sequel

Loved the first book and this one doesn't disappoint either.
Good character development and the LitRPG elements are there but don't overwhelm the story.
World building is logical in itself and I loved it, but try for yourself...

Good Sequel

I like how the series storyline continues in this second book, and the continued character and story development. No great drama, just sci-fi fun with real and magic tech.

Good Enough

For most of this story I really enjoyed reading. The Earth parts I didn’t really care for especially the Greys and assaulting and being assaulted by the Military. Also I was disappointed that the MC worked software and not for State Farm Insurance.

This was amazing

This book and it’s first book made me want to write something in this style. I like the formatting and the idea of a human getting alien tech and protecting humans. I hope there is more to come.

Part 2 of what may be an abandoned series? While the books ends with some resolution it definitely left the door open for more. Three years later with no sequel I’m just going to move on and not try to look for more later.
