When Richard Brook's body is found in DeWitt Clinton Park, witnesses claim to have seen a demonic dog chasing him in the early morning fog. Luckily, Van Helsing knows a demon Princess and a guy with the right nose to sniff out the truth.
The choice is elementary, really.
As Leery digs for bones, they unearth a curse laid on the Brook family by a disgruntled warlock and the greed of Brook's cocky magister partner--a man with the skills to summon a Hound of Hell. Even with Dru's connections in Gehenna and Leery's dogged pursuit of the tale, they must eliminate the impossible and see what remains.
Can they find enough truth to arrest a Sure 'Lock?
Critical Acclaim for CLAW & ★★★★★ “[T]he 'other world' is swarming with their own problems to keep their side under control in New York. I’m no stranger to Erik Henry Vick’s universe as I’m a fan of The Bloodletter Saga. Vick’s intriguing, ghoulish, fast-paced plot and solid characterization are as entertaining as I expected. There are ample thrills, chills, and fun to satisfy readers' appetites. The dialogue and prose generate the entertaining moments and the degree of tension best suited to launch the next twist…yet more proof of Erik Henry Vick’s storytelling expertise in the supernatural world.”--Lit Amri, Readers' Favorite Reviews★★★★★ “I enjoyed the amalgamation of so many types of supernaturals… The banter between the characters was brilliantly executed, portraying different levels of complex relationships. Sometimes I couldn't help but grin at a well-spun conversation, let alone how the creatures' unique traits or weaknesses are evoked to further the investigation. I enjoyed the third-person narrative and how the high-pressure roles were portrayed… The characters were brilliantly portrayed.“--K.J. Simmill, Readers' Favorite Reviews★★★★★ “The idea that there are two simultaneous types of society working side-by-side was a fascinating premise… The characters are fully overdrawn, as is the nature in this genre, and author Erik Henry Vick has done a fantastic job of giving them real and recognizable emotions and foibles that endear them to the reader... The writing style is flowing and easy to read. If urban fantasy is your thing, this is a book you must read but even if it’s not, this is a book you should read. I did and I’m glad of it – an excellent read.”--Grant Leishman, Readers' Favorite Reviews

The 8th book in the Claw and Warder series hooked me right from the first page! Erik Henry Vick has innovatively depicted the zaniness of his cast of characters. Have you ever heard of a name where you have to cough at the end? The name Myercough made me laugh so hard. It is mandatory to say Myer and then cough when you address the goblin. Not doing so would be highly disrespectful. This time Leery and Dru are on the trail of a murderous warlock. The trail is fraught with deception. The investigation and its outcome while being hilarious, are full of surprising twists. I enjoyed this entertaining book. Love this series of books. My thanks to the author for the ARC.
When you read one of the awesome books in this series, it is like sitting back with 'old friends' (I was an avid Law & Order viewer) and having them tell you about their cases.
Mind you, in this series, things are a bit different, what with werewolves, dragons, goblins and the like all playing important roles.
This is the 8th book in the series and you do not have to have read the previous 7 to dive into this one. Why you wouldn't want to read them though, is a question only you can answer.
Leery is recovering from his near-death experience, but insists on accompanying Dru on this most recent case of an evil lawyer trying to better himself at great cost to others.
Sit back, prepare to have difficulty putting the book down, and enjoy!!!!!!!!
Too bad this series is winding down. This outing was enjoyable even if the magical fireworks weren't ramped very high. The courtroom scenes were shorter than some before and banter seemed the key rather than sharp legal skills. There were no surprises in this tale but what really saved it for me was the relationship of Dru and Leery. It will be interesting to see how it all culminates. Now to download the last episode!
Someone is dead from the bite of a Barghest. The rwo-headed demon dog rarely kills, usually being a potent of death rather than death itself. In Richard Brook's case, it becomes the murder weapon. A lot of forward movement in ancillary stories, especially Lerry's daughter who is wanting to become a vampire. He introduces her to Dru's father, one of the biggest baddies of the vampire community. Leery and Dru also solve a murder. Three and a half stars rounded up for Goodreads
Erik Henry Vick does it again with his 8th episode of Claw & Warder, Sure 'Lock. Filled with magic and mayhem, murder, mystery, danger, adventure and intrigue, the storyline is fast-paced and very well written. The characters are well developed and engaging. Leery's werewolf is so well done, it all but jumps off the page. I can't wait for Episode 9. Keep them coming Mr. Vick!
When I first started reading Claw and Warder, I had low expectations. Generally, I am not a fan of this genre. But, with each turned page, I found myself more entrenched in this world. Now, I simply cannot wait for the next episode to drop.
Thank you, Erik, for everything that you do. Keep up the amazing work, my friend.
Well, these books are really good. Once I start reading one I can't put it down until I've read it all. Leery and Dru have a murder to solve as usual they have help from paranormal, supernatural creatures. Then there is the court case which has shades of Law and Order the tv series. I can't wait to read the next book.
Lawyers - they twist it all up and spit it back at you. In the end even you believe you might have. A case of an eye for an eye —- an interesting and weird twisty case.
