The Official companion to all three bodacious Bill & Ted films. Bill S. Preston Esquire and Theodore 'Ted' Logan (Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves) were the stars of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey . The anarchic, charming movies about two school kids from San Dimas, California who travel across time and save the world became cult classics and are still cited today as favorites and influences for subsequent generations of fans. The hotly anticipated Bill & Ted Face the Music stars Winter and Reeves as well as rising stars Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) and Brigette Lundy-Paine (Atypical). This bodacious companion to all three movies will feature hundreds of photographs, script excerpts and a most excellent publication.
It should have been called 'Bill and Ted's Most Excellent Photo Book.'
While it's hardbacked, glossy and beautifully printed, there must only be about 200 words in the whole thing. It's insane!
Photos are captioned and there's a foreword but the back proudly claims that Laura J Shapiro has been a consultant on Bill and Ted 3 for over 10 years. Surely, in all that time, she learned something worth reporting here? Instead, we get photos. Tons of them and that's great, but this is NO companion book. It's a photo book. Simple as.
The little seen behind-the-scenes photos are a definite highlight of this book which is otherwise pretty light on interviews and production information. I have no regrets for buying this book and I can honestly say I enjoyed it, I was just really hoping for something more robust and that would fill-in a few more of the details surrounding the new film. The previous two movies have some decent making-of features on their SHOUT! Factory releases but Face the Music pretty much just has the ComiCon panel. Not even a proper EPK featurette. This book *could* have filled that void but didn't. Happy to have it on my shelf but a bit disappointed.
This book was beautifully designed, the art and photos were super interesting. Though the sections on the first two movies were lighter, there was some really fun stuff. When it got to the 3rd movie, there was a lot more to say, and it was really engaging. I do wish there had been some more research and interviews regarding the first couple movies, but that wasn’t really the main point here. All in all, I loved this.
