Love isn’t on her list…

Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mitzi Sanchez has always had a plan for her life.

Through hard work and self-sacrifice, she fulfilled her dream. Mitzi has a thriving practice and the spacious home she’s building in Jackson Hole is a far cry from the tiny apartment in East Los Angeles where she grew up.

Now she’s ready for a husband. She’s got a plan for that, too. Trouble is pilot and local handyman, Keenan McGregor, doesn’t meet any of the criteria.

After taking the blame for someone else’s actions, Keenan is in the process of rebuilding his life from the ground up. He doesn’t need unwanted distractions—in the form of a sexy doctor—causing him to lose focus.

Only when they find themselves falling reluctantly in love do they realize plans need contingencies. Like what to do when you forgot to factor in love…

~This story was originally published as The Husband List (as noted on the copyright page) It was updated (WOW-has technology changed over the years!) as well as some of the writing was tightened. What hasn't changed is this is a heartwarming story that you're absolutely going to love!~

I adored Mitzi Sanchez and Keenan McGregor’s opposites attract romance in Her Kind of Hero! Loved the pairing of Mitzi, the successful surgeon with the down-to-earth Keenan.
Mitzi was a secondary character in Healing the Doctors Heart. I admired her commitment to her career and her loyalty to her friend, Dr. Kate McNeal. Kate understands her friend’s desire to settle down. She also appreciates Mitzi’s determination to put her less than perfect childhood behind her and build a successful career. Kate remembered that Mitzi made etiquette lists during her residency so she would embarrass herself. Lists when she wants to learn about art, wine and books. Kate is not surprised that Mitzi has created another list— A Husband List-because she understands Mitzi’s fear of making a mistake.
Mitzi and Keenan meet at his Welcome Home party and the chemistry between the couple sizzled. Mitzi was attracted to Keenan but quickly dismissed him because of his past. Keenan has to rebuild his career—and a successful man is at the top of her Husband List.
The author does a great job balancing Mitzi’s growing feelings towards Keenan with her need to stay on track with her goal. At first, Mitzi seemed very superficial as she focused on success, not love. Mitzi’s less than perfect childhood influenced her decisions. Even though Keenan is charming, smart and determined to re start his career as a pilot; he believes he is not good enough for Mitzi.
Loved the conflict in the story-love vs. career—it’s very relatable. Cindy Kirk creates memorable characters and the charming, hardworking Keenan and career focused Mitzi are two of my favorites. Loved how both characters grew in the novel. On the surface they seem totally opposite but, as I read the book I realized how much they had in common and that they complimented each other. The story was very moving and I could hear the emotion and feel the passion in their conversations.
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry and smile —then Her Kind of Hero is for you!

Her Kind of Hero, book 6 in the Jackson Hole series, is another stellar book by Cindy Kirk. One of the great things about Cindy’s book is each book can be read as a standalone story. However, if you read the entire series, you fall in love with Jackson Hole and its residents as you become more enmeshed with the community.

Her Kind of Hero is the story about Mitzi and Keenan. Mitzi has grown up in Jackson Hole. Although she came from a poor family, she worked hard in school, graduated college and medical school, and finally reached her goal of becoming a doctor. When the story begins, Mitzi is having her dream home built and is ready to find a man and start a family.

Keenan’s adolescent and teen years were spent trying to protect his sister from his violent mother who was an alcoholic. Keenan was working towards his dream of becoming a pilot and having his own charter service when he tried to help a stranger and was then accused of murder.

When Keenan was released from prison, a welcome home party was planned, and Mitzi was invited. When they met, sparks began to fly; however, the two are on different life paths. However as their friendship begins to develop, so does their love for one another. Will love be enough or will their fears keep them from exploring their feelings?

Oh Mitzi. You were a tough one to like, but I am so glad I persisted in reading this book to get to know you better. You threw wrenches in your love story from all directions, but I firmly believe that what is meant to be will be. I also appreciated getting to know why you are the way you are.

Keenan was a joy, inspite of having gone through the hardest of times. Instead of all his struggles making him hard and ornery, he was one of the most open, loving and amazing men I have ever met in a book.

When they meet, it seemed like love was an impossiblity. They were so different and both had ghosts in their past that made their connection almost impossible. As they say, the path to true love never runs smooth. I am so very glad to have read their story - it made me feel warm and happy, and made me believe that true love will always find its way.

The book was well written, as always is with Cindy Kirk books. The friends ive made in Jackson Hole made quick appearances and that is always a treat. I love books that make me feel like ive come home, or at least, come home to visit old friends. This book really did uplift me and made my heart smile the biggest smile!

** I was sent an ARC of this book but this review and all opinions herein are my own, and this review is submitted voluntarily.

Fast Moving, Fun, Flirty, with Serious Moments

Mitzi worked hard all her life to rise above her upbringing. Now that she has it all, she wants to enjoy life on her terms. But having fun with no commitment, after a hard day’s work isn’t all its cracked up to be. Time to get serious and find a stable, husband-material man.

Keenan has been tied down the last few years, through no choice or fault of his own. Now he’s free. He wants to enjoy life, date casually, get serious about his business, and prove to the world he’s not the guilty man everyone thought he was.

Best laid plans…well you know the saying. They never seem to work out, especially when you find yourself falling in love with the one person who is totally wrong for you. Mitzi and Keenan enjoy the fun, but when the time comes to be serious, both run in opposite directions. The pull of love proves too strong. And doing what you think you are supposed to, might not be the best course to follow if you want to find serious, ever-lasting, passionate love.

A fun-filled topsy-turvy affair, a search for a normal, expected life, and two unconventional characters leads to a romping read about a destined forever-love.

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the publisher for an unbiased and honest review.

I really enjoy the Jackson Hole series. I didn't start the series with book one, but I plan on going back to read the books I missed.

I liked this book, but Mitzi was not my favorite person. This story actually made me a little sad. Keenan really was screwed over. Both by his mother and the system. I don't remember if it mentioned how long he spent in jail as an innocent man. Keenan was sweet, kind, funny, and sexy.

Mitzi came across as cold, shallow, selfish, judgmental and a bit mean spirited. Even knowing Mitzi's background really didn't excuse her behavior. As she spent more time around Keenan, the block of ice around her heart seemed to melt. I just felt like she spent most of the book being dismissive about his feelings.

I thought with the kind of background Mitzi had, she would be a bit more empathetic. I didn't see that behavior until much later in the book. Prior to that, I felt like she was using Keenan.

I am very glad they got their HEA. Everything worked out for them, and the book left me with a smile on my face.

I received an arc of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is an enjoyable entry in the Jackson Hole series. Mitzi Sanchez overcame a tough childhood to become a successful orthopedic surgeon. She has succeeded in life by always having a plan. Now that everything in her life is going well, she has decided that she wants to get married. Like every other part of her life, she has made a “husband list” of all the things she wants in a husband. Keenan McGregor does not fit on her list (other than the handsome part). Keenan also had a tough childhood. His mother was an abusive drunk, and Keenan started taking care of himself and his younger sister Betsy when he was ten. He then was put into prison for a crime he didn’t commit. It has been several years, and he has finally been exonerated and is back in Jackson Hole. Fate keeps putting Mitzi and Keenan together and they become friends, and eventually more. Now, they both need to get beyond their pasts and see that love doesn’t always fit neatly on a list. Note that this is a reissue of Cindy Kirk’s pervious Harlequin series RX for live book.

Her Kind of Hero is the 6th book in the Jackson Hole series by Ms Kirk but can be read as a standalone book. It tells the story of Mitzi and Keenan, both who have overcome their dysfunctional pasts to create a better future for themselves.
Mitzi is an orthopaedic surgeon who has decided she wants to get married and creates a list of what she wants in a perfect husband. After meeting Keenan at a party, they develop a “friends with benefits” relationship despite Keenan’s only quality on her husband list of being handsome.
Both Mitzi and Keenan develop further feelings for each other but are both hesitant due to their pasts.
This book may be a romance novel but hearts and flowers? At least not to begin with. Do Mitzi and Keenan overcome previous relationship fears and get their Happily Ever After? Read Her Kind of Hero to find out.
I am a big fan of Ms Kirk and her Jackson Hole series and although not a big fan of Mitzi to begin with, she grew on me and loved her by the end. An enjoyable, fun book!

Love it - Best couple in Jackson Hole.

Wow what a fabulous couple! This is about Mitzi and Keenan. The story starts off with a welcoming home party for Keenan as he was finally released from prison for a crime he never committed. Mitzi didn’t know who he was but knew his sister Betsy.

She is looking for the right man to settle down with but has a list of qualities that she thinks equals to a successful man; only the list doesn’t work for the man that she has been comfortably talking to for a while without knowing who he is. Keenan on the other hand has taken a liking to the woman that has kept him company until she realizes that he is the ex-con.

The story revolves around true friendships and those that believe in the person and not the past. Both individuals grew up in different homes one by a single parent who never gave her child the acknowledgment she deserves and the other who whose only parent was always absent leaving a 10 year old to raise his 5 year old sister and believing that he would never amount to anything. Love this book and I would love to see who is next - maybe Cassidy?

What is harder than being an intelligent girl who knows her poor family can never provide her with an education she desperately wants?... A man sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. When Keenan returns to Jackson Hole after his sentence is overturn and he is freed, he meets spirited Mitzi. Mitzi fought hard to become a surgeon and reach above the poverty she was born into and her climb does not include an ex con just starting his adult life. Keenan has much to do to find his life again but he does not let the unfairness of his past keep him down. When sparks fly between these two unlikely soul mates, they both hesitate. His hurt soul doubts his worth and she is scared to stray from her strict list of needed accomplishments. But when nature pushes them together, will the fates align for happiness or heartbreak? I recommend you read and find out. I was given an advance readers copy from the publisher for a review.
This is a great story with rich characters that bring hope and fun in the telling of it.

Her Kind of Hero : "I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it
Keenan McGregor did what he thought was right and tried to help a man in trouble. For his efforts he was set up by the offenders and falsely imprisoned for manslaughter. Finally, through the efforts of friends and family her is now a free man. At his welcome home party he meets Dr. Mitzi Sanchez a local Jackson Hole surgeon.
Mitzi is looking for someone that’s well on their way to a successful future, one that doesn’t include Keenan who’s starting his life over from scratch. Unfortunately, for Mitzi, it’s Keenan who’s attracted her attention. Mitzi and Keenan start a friendship that brings them close together and stirs something in Mitzi that is outside her plan of what a husband should be.
Once Mitzi looks beyond what she sees as the ideal man and truly sees Keenan for the warm, honest, and caring man he is, she has to rethink her plan or risk losing Keenan.

Her Kind of Hero is the sixth in the series but can be read as a stand alone story. This is a story of setting goals and overcoming your past. Mitzi grew up in a poor family, worked hard to become a doctor, is now having her dream home built, and setting her sights on finding a husband and starting a family. Keenan grew up protecting his sister from their violent, drunk of a mother. He was on his way to realizing his dreams of being a pilot and owning his own charter service when he was framed for murder after coming to the aid of a stranger. Now released from prison, he meets Mitzi at his welcome home party. Although sparks fly, the two appear worlds apart on goals. What starts as a reluctant friendship, grows into a love story that both are afraid to believe in until they overcome their fears. Family and friends assist in finding the happily ever after that is truly meant to be. This is a warm, lovely story that is wonderfully written with realistic characters and issues.

I received an Advanced Ready Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it. Finally, finally, finally readers get the low down on the sassy orthopedic surgeon, Mitzi Sanchez. Mitzi knows what she wants and at the moment, it is a husband. Not just any husband, a husband that meets all the criteria on her list. Yes, a literal list.

Keenan McGregor was recently released from prison for a crime he did not commit. Though he is not a contender for Mitzi's husband, the chemistry is off the charts. Not only is Keenan cute, he is kind and can be a wonderful friend to a person that needs one. While Mitzi is on the road to HEA, who's to say that she can't have fun with a friend that she is attracted to with an unbelievable chemistry.

This Jackson Hole romance will have readers falling in love with love. Mitzi Sanchez will make you want to hug and shake her at the same time. Once again Cindy, has made readers fall in love with the characters of Jackson Hole. Ready for more...

Dr. Mitzi Sanchez met Keenan McGregor at his coming home party from prison. Mitzi is looking for a husband and has a list to prove it. Keenan is just looking to get his life back in order. But after meeting, Mitzi tries her hardest not to become involved with the hard worker who is also from the "wrong side of the tracks" like her. Neither had the easiest childhood, both had absent fathers and non supportive mothers, which skewed their thoughts on love and friendship.

After getting to know each other, Mitzi and Keenan's walls come down and they get to know the person inside and each is falling in love with the other. But will their past insecurities lead to their ultimate heartbreak or will they learn to let go of their pasts and get the happy ending they deserve.

Another superbly written book by Ms. Kirk. Traveling to Jackson Hole, characters that we have met before now support our new hero and heroine. Looking forward to visiting Jackson Hole again soon.

Mitzi is an orthopedic surgeon. Keenan is a carpenter/helicopter pilot. Keenan spent years in prison for a crime he didn't commit but witnessed and was set up, and saved his sister from the men who actually did it. Keenan start work on building Mitzi's new house. She decides to live there while they continue to work on it. Keenan is there everyday, and some overnights also. They find a kitten in a parking lot, and she takes it home and names it Bitty.
They spend time together, kayaking, windsurfing, he escorts her to a coworkers daughters quinceanera. He flys her to a remote hospital to check on patients, and a storm grounds them, they stay overnight, but don't spend a lot of time sleeping.
The spend time together, he finishes the work on her house.
She says 3 words to him, he thanks her and leaves, sure he is not worthy of her. He realizes he is an idiot, goes back to grovel, they talk and he says the 3 words back to her.

In this sixth novel in the Jackson Hole sequence, the focus is on Mitzi Sanchez, an orthopedic physician, and Keenan McGregor, a local guy recently released from prison (for a crime he did not commit). Mitzi was introduced in the fourth Jackson Hole novel (Healing the Doctor’s Heart), as the BFF of Kate, the physician heroine.

Mitzi is on a mission to find a husband, and Keenan does not fit her criteria on her “husband list”. Keenan is rebuilding his life, working for the builder Joel, Kate’s husband, and planning to regain his pilot’s license. Mitzi’s criteria include being established in a career, a criterion which Keenan clearly does not fit. What does exist is a sizzling mutual attraction, which both try to deny.

Unlike previous novels in the Jackson Hole series, I didn’t find any chronological inconsistencies, so my rating is not affected by such inconsistencies. I was really attracted to this story, which I rated as a 5-star book.

Can I be honest with you, Cindy is usually a 5 star review for me and this is the first one that is only 4 stars. It's not because of the writing (that is as great as always), it's because I didn't really like the main character Dr Mitzi Sanchez, in fact I wanted to give her a good slap at times! But maybe this is what Cindy wanted us to do?!

Mitzi was too shallow to start with and was only interested in finding a husband that ticked all the right boxes. She was attracted to Keenan, the wrongly imprisoned brother of another character, but Mitzi dismissed him as husband material. Keenan had lost everything but he wasn't bitter, all he wanted was to get his life back on track. He fought for Mitzi and she soon came to realise the error of her ways. Overall a good read but Mitzi isn't one of my favourite of Cindy's characters.

Her kind of hero by Cindy Kirk
"I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it."

I did enjoy this book. I love the series. Both Mitzi and Keenan had both had childhoods less than perfect and Keenan was falsely put in prison which both drawn them together and possibly could drive them apart. Keenan who thinks he’s not worthy of someone as strong and smart as Mitzi. Mitzi has a list of what she’s looking for which is mostly materialistic and her idea of success. Their past experiences colored both their views of what they had to offer and wanted from a relationship. They navigated thru those doubts and needs to find each other. I thought they were well suited for each other because they understood each other like no other person could since they had came from similar backgrounds. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. There were some sparks with a few couples in this book, almost like a tease.

I really enjoyed this story! I loved the connection Mitzi and Keenan had from the very first moment, and I loved sharing their journey towards love with them. I rarely highlight quotes in books, but I highlighted what I thought was a very significant quote in this one: Mitzi told Keenan about telling Steve she’d fly with Keenan, “Given the choice, there’s no one I’d rather be with than you.” I think that was a bit of a Freudian slip on her part – she was talking about flying, but her heart meant forever. I thought that quote was particularly telling, and it made me so happy to read it. I thought it was funny that Mitzi kissed Keenan to verify that there was no spark with another man. While he was irritated at being a “science experiment,” I totally got it. Sometimes, you’ve just gotta be SURE! Thank you, too, for including the wedding at the end. It’s always an added bonus to get to see the happy day.

Lovely story

Mitzi is one of her kind, because she is not apologetic about her life, and she is ready to talk, ready to apologise when she is wrong. Although it may look contradictory, it is not. She has had a hard life and reached this stature on her own. On her quest to find a husband, she has tried out being with other men. But being with Keenan is when she blossoms into her own self.

Keenan too has gone through a lot, and is struggling to get back on his feet to be a pilot again. He loves deeply and cares for everyone. His constant feeling of not being worthy keeps him wary of getting what he deserves.

It all ends well with they both finding each other.

What I loved best was how Mitzi resolves her issues with people by being straightforward, genuine with words, and sincere. No reserves or turning away from feelings without talking. It feels so good to see people resolving issues so nicely.

Great characters, good talks.

Another great book in the Jackson Hole series. Keenan and Mitzi’s story - Mitzi hadn’t been featured much and Keenan only mentioned in previous books. I loved Keenan from the beginning of the book to the end. Mitzi not so much. Being an orthopedic surgeon she had preconceived ideas of the type of husband she was looking for and this definitely wasn’t Keenan who was just starting his life again after being released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit. I felt really bad for Keenan as they started a ‘friends with benefits’ relationship and Mitzi made Keenan felt like a stand in until the Mitzi found the right man. The story was so well told and you really felt the emotion of the characters come though. Great read with an eventual HEA.

I was not a fan of Mitzi from her brief appearances in previous Jackson Hole books. As this book started, I thought for sure I would continue to roll my eyes at Mitzi. However, Cindy Kirk managed to transform her from a cold, distant, strictly-business doctor into someone not afraid to seek forgiveness, friendship, and love. Keenan's journey was a heartbreaking one from childhood until his welcome back to Jackson Hole. I couldn't help but root for this boy next door that kept his head down regardless of what life threw his way. I loved how each character's past was woven into who they were and what they pictured for their ideal life. And I thoroughly enjoyed when they ended up with the exact opposite of their idea of perfection! Another wonderful read from Cindy Kirk!

Loved this one!! Mitzi and Keenan are the perfect match although some may not see it from the outside. Mitzi is an orthopedic surgeon who is looking for the Perfect a husband (on paper) who meets Keenan who was just released from jail on a crime he didn’t commit. Both find commonality in the fact that their start in life was not that glamorous. Mitzi has risen above her beginnings and is looking for a man who is established in a career and is ready to settle down while Keenan is trying to get his life back. They have a lot of fun together but both are hesitant to call what they have a relationship...but it grows into one and much more. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! Great job Cindy Kirk!! Can’t wait to see who is next to fall in love in Jackson Hole!

When Keenan returns to Jackson Hole after being falsely imprisoned, he falls for Mitzi he successful surgeon and they start a friends with benefit relationship. As always these relationships always end up with someone falling in love unexpectedly. I found Mitzi to be a bit shallow because she had a list of what she wanted in a husband and verbally told Keenan he did not even make the list. Keenan's dreams and his self esteem take a hit when sins from his mother in the past end up making him feel unworthy of Mitzi. My favorite part was Cassidy coming to the rescue and throwing all the attitude to keep these two together.

I enjoy Jackson Hole and the characters that inhabit it. I liked both Mitzi and Keenan, but was frustrated by Mitzi when she dismissed the attraction between them as not worthy of a long-term relationship. They focused on the short term and enjoyed each other's company and I kept thinking "soon she'll recognize he's the one!" but it took a lot longer for her to realize her list for husband material didn't include what was most important. Keenan was determined to get his life back and I admired how he worked at that and was able to work toward his dream of being a pilot full time. It was great when they both admitted what was between them was meant for the long term.

This was another enjoyable entry in the Jackson Hole series. Mitzi is a smart, competent doctor, who decides the next step in her plan is to get married. She makes a list of what she wants. (I love lists, so I liked that.) Keenan does not fit the list attributes, but they are sure attracted to each other.

I did feel like Mitzi was kind of judgmental, but on the other hand, with an important decision I suppose one wants to be cautious. Keenan was a sweetheart who had overcome a lot of hard knocks. I think he was much more sympathetic than Mitzi.

This was a short, sweet romance, and I am sure people will enjoy it. I know I did.

I always have a hard time with books like this one where a person ended up in prison after being wrongfully accused and then having to put their lives back together afterward. I felt like this book did an excellent job of dealing with the conflicting emotions the main characters had in how they were raised and how it reflected in their lives growing up. About the only thing I didn't like about the book was the ending. I thought it could have used a little bit more in bringing the final conflict out and having him get the support he deserved from the community. Overall I really enjoyed the book and reconnecting with the characters from the other books located in the same town.

This is the 9th book in the Jackson Hole series, written by the incredible author Cindy Kirk. Love how you can read each book as a stand-alone or in order. This book is about the lives of characters living in Jackson Hole, with Dr Mitzi Sanchez & Keenan McGreggor being the main characters.
Mitzi had a turbulent upbringing & was determined to work hard & change the path of her life. Her hard work ethic & determination has paid off & she succeeded in becoming a very successful orthopaedic surgeon. Mitzi doesn’t take her new life for granted & never forgets where she came from, always ready & willing to help others less fortunate. She is in the process of having her dream home built, a far cry from her life previously. Keenan McGreggor has also overcome life's obstacles. He was wrongly incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. The community of Jackson Hope came together & ensured this wrong was put right, they are successful at proving his innocence. Keenan is rightfully released from prison & is trying to build his life again. He wants to prove himself by working hard & having fun whilst doing so, making up for lost time spent in prison.
Mitzi has a list of what qualities she wants in her future husband. Mitzi & Keenan become very good friend, everyday growing closer, however he is not ticking all of the boxes that Mitzi wants in a husband. A beautiful story of love does not discriminate, if it’s meant to be? Love will always find a way.

In all honesty this was not my favorite story of Ms. Kirks but don't miss read me - it wasn't due to the writing it was a personality conflict with the main character. I found myself highly annoyed with the main character (Mitzi) throughout the story - which is a sign of good writing to make me feel something (weather good or bad) toward the characters. This is a fun series with the same characters appearing throughout. The story is a quick read therefor it tends to skip out on detail and rush timelines but otherwise it very enjoyable

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily reviewing it.
