The Fallen Fae #3

Keeper of Storms

Rate this book
As a new king rises, kingdoms will fall.

As a warrior princess, Reyna Darragh has always preferred the blade to boring courtly politics. Swords are fun. Intrigue isn’t. But with every kingdom in Tir Na Nog poised for battle, she fears this might be the war that ends them all.

Torn from Lorcan’s side, she seeks a way back to him, but hundreds of warships stand in her way, as does her cruel deal with Seelie. They can never be together, not while her world-shattering power storms through her veins.

As kingdoms rise and fall, Unseelie spreads his power throughout the realms, awakening chaos. The dark god has a greater plan in mind than war. And if Reyna does not stop him, Tir Na Nog will be lost forever.

Just when you think it's over, it's not!

The plot twists keep coming, dragging the reader through pain, despair, and disbelief along the way. It's thrilling to read a fantasy that you can't predict what will happen next. Reyna continues to be the strong, but not totally infallible lead. Eislyn and Thane make increasingly baffling decisions, but I am still eagerly interested in what they are up to in their chapters.

Kings had risen, and kingdoms had been ripped apart. Entire continents razed and then rebuilt into something twisted and strange.

War, blood, lies, death...Just reading how much the fae have gone through is exhausting - in a good way. The fae have only known war and are almost desperate for peace of some kind.

Eislyn's heart almost shattered at the idea of home. After everything she’d been through in the past year, a part of her wanted nothing more than to curl up inside the library with a stack of books while Albin droned on about the dreary day-to-day business of life inside a castle. And it was the kind of nonsense Eislyn ached to find. But she could find no one else to do this. Glencora was still ill in her bed. Reyna was off doing Reyna things. Charging through the countryside on a quest to save a king.

Eislyn's character improved so much in this book, no longer the sheltered princess who hides behind a shield. She learned how to fight, though not as good as Reyna, as she embarked on a quest of her own to seek answers in the land of the Fomorians. Experiencing many a great loss had been the turning point of her life, yet she remained the sweet and good-hearted youngest Darragh sister I love. The development of her character is what I like best at this point. She grows to be dependable, far from the helpless princess she used to be. But to give her more credit, while Reyna charged ahead of danger like a bull, Eislyn has done her fair share of help with her constant research on the origin of the Ruin.

“I’d rather be dead than trapped in this cell for the rest of my life. The decades stretch out before me, endless days of nothing more than darkness and dirt. Put me out of my misery.”

I still believe Mariel deserves the Air Court throne far more than Thane. She's the real hero of the low fae in the slum. Both of them desire power, but the desire stems from their love of their people.

“Glencora was always meant to be your bride. Before…the accident.” Cos cleared his throat, blinking away unshed tears. “Thankfully, she has made a miraculous recovery and can take up her position as your queen now. We should join our families together, Thane. Once and for all.”

Court life is truly messed up *sighs* But Thane and Eislyn have been separated by fate towards different paths and I no longer see them ending up together. Circumstances had taken them away from each other. After all, their feelings weren't given a chance to bloom since that night of the assault on Thane's coronation. Eislyn is married to Emperor Lir. Glencora is awake and High King Cos wants to go on with the betrothal as part of the alliance. But seriously, his two daughters are somewhere far across the lands. I wonder if he's worried about them. I'd like to think he does.

“Prepare the armies,” Adonis said, pushing up from his desk with fisted hands. “The time for us to sail to Tir Na Nog has come.”

Oh my gosh! The ending. And just when Reyna and Lorcan thought peace has finally come to Tir Na Nog.

Anyway, I like how the ending seems too good to be true and Reyna senses that. The epilogue introduces a new POV and I’m wondering if Wolfhart will have 6 POV’s to write for each chapter in the next book. It’s a bit too much, but we’ll see.

Yoooo this book was bit crazy. There was so much happening all the time. Certain elements of this book were super predictable. I won't go into the details but they were obvious to the point that I didn't even believe what the characters believed because I was so convinced of what had actually happened. On the other hand, the whole Namhaid will destroy the world as we know it mystery that is going on this series is excellent. I still have no idea how all of this is going to play out, especially since it seems like certain characters are lining up against each other even though they don't want to be going against each other. So I am really looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

Also a side note but this book included the phrase: "all that jazz" and let me tell you no statement has ever taken me out of a book faster. How does jazz exist in a fantasy world that lacks African Americans? Anyway, I hope the next books don't have any more immersion breaking situations.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Keeper of Storms!! This series excites me a lot. By now, this is book three, so if you're considering this book, you're probably invested in the story same as me. This book is amazing and I love the way it twisted and turned and gave me something exciting beyond what I honestly expected. I'm glad things with Eislynn switched up a bit. I'm really digging her story as of this book, and I kind of discovered her as a newly interesting character. She wasn't my fave the last two books, but I am hooked on her character now.
Overall, I am anticipating some more twists and turns but cannot wait for soooooooooooooooooo many answers to come in the next book!!!! Jenna, you're wickedly brilliant!!

Wild storm!!

This was an insane ride! And emotional rollercoaster of epic proportions! I. Loved. It! Nothing is ever exactly as it seems. It's beautiful chaos 🖤 I love these characters, which could be dangerous with this series. This series continually blows me away! It's like Jenna took all my favorite things about all my favorite book series and effortlessly wove them together into a beautiful tapestry. I love everything about it! Even the parts that break my tiny black heart lol I'm simultaneously excited and terrified to learn what happens next! One thing is certain. Whatever it is, it wont be boring. I'm off to dive in to the next one and to learn more about two lands that we know almost nothing about. Until next time, may the Dagda bless you 🖤

*A Thing* happened in this book and I turned to B and said "If this doesn't prove untrue, I'm totally rage quitting." Of course it proved untrue. But still! Ugh! This series, my friends. It's got me by the throat and I'm having a hard time getting anything else done besides reading!

Just so its out of way because this review is mostly negative, there were less POV switches than the previous books, which I liked. Anyway…

I think the worst thing about this book is Eislyn’s sudden romance with the fomor emperor. She goes from a runaway princess to an obedient wife in a single book. Her and thane’s romance in the first book was one of the best parts of this series, and its suddenly dropped for Bronze Abs who forces a girl to marry him and doesn’t tell her why. They haven’t even kissed yet, but their ‘romance’ feels very sudden and rushed. Bronze Abs goes from repetitively telling her ‘I can’t tell you’ every single time she asks a question, to lore dumping and throwing food at eachother. I feel like if Eislyn’s POVs were completely omitted from this book and she was given her own novella, it would have made the attraction between them more believable(though, im still not one for stockholm syndrome romances). Right now, it just seems like she wants to lick his bronze abs for seemingly no reason(which, btw, the reader is constantly reminded he has bronze abs almost every single chapter he is in. His only personality trait is being shirtless.) Eilsyn’s new owl doesn’t make any sense. Maybe it’ll be explained in the next novel, but i feel like her suddenly having a familar should be at least explained somewhat? Maybe some scenes of them together? They barely interacted. Her owl was just there.

And the emperor himself!!! Jesus christ. And here i thought Lorcan was repulsive for walking in on Reyna taking a bath and not leaving. He walks in on Eislyn reading a book and throws it into the fire when he realizes what it’s about. He won’t tell her why she’s there but gets mad when he finds her trying to learn herself?? You can’t blame me for preferring Thane over mr. Abs. Thane escorted her to the library(a place the emperor forbade her from going to after she was almost assaulted by one of HIS friends) and even helped her investigate the ruin. I can’t root for this guy if he’s just a dick with abs.

Dialogue seems flat and cliche at times. I’ve found myself rolling my eyes more than once.

The wood court king is… a villain. He’s not a very interesting character and is very similar to lorcan’s dad from the previous book. That’s it. He’s cruel and he drinks blood.

I don’t care about Mariel. Never have. Her POVs have been almost useless since book 1. I don’t care for her claim to the throne. It was very weird for the nobles to be on her side, tell her not to leave the castle during the battle, and then scold her for not leaving the castle? What??

Reyna’s shieldmaiden training. We never here anything else of it besides her being able to dodge arrows(not as repetitive as the last book but the author deems it inportant enough to remind us during every fight scene.) I also find it strange the wood court soldier commonly wield bow and arrows, but they cant dodge like her? Shouldn’t they too be fast and nimble?

The Ruin’s dialogue became repetitive very fast. Started skipping their paragraphs after awhile. Give up, Reyna! You’re a bad person, Reyna! You’re gonna kill everyone, Reyna! oh my god… you’re not the prophesized Bad Guy? What do I do now….

RIP to all those potential plotlines that were thrown out the window in/around book 2. Esilyn and Thane, first of all, a romance that was arguably better than whatever Reyna and Lorcan were doing. They were so sweet together. Lastly, Tarrah and her future baby daddy. All that hype in the first book just for them to be both killed off. Oh well!

I have nothing else to say. Excuse me while I sob over Thane and Glencora being possibly married.

There was just something about this book that made it one of the worst in the series so far. I'm reading these with a friend and between us needing to ask each other clarifying questions, questioning the choices of not only the characters but the writer...it's safe to say that the author didn't put too much thought into this series. I mean, let's be honest. 3 of the books were published within the same year, so that has to mean something, right?

I had high hopes for Thane, but it seems like he's become a useless side character that she doesn't know what to do with. There were significantly less POVs in this book, which I'm grateful for, but the Eislyn romance in this book was very...strange. The character started out exceedingly unlikable and I think it's in poor taste to introduce a love interest in the third fucking book.

I don't particularly care about Reyna or Lorcan, but that Fomorian bitch made Lorcan look like he's the fucking Michael B. Jordan of this book (ok not really but it definitely made Lorcan's creepy ass not look as creepy). The romance is forced, the characters are flat and why did Thane's last chapter end like that? He's giving nothing and that's disappointing because he used to be one of my fave characters back when he was a character.

The only way this series can get worse is if someone has a baby and I'm 90% sure that someone might.

Only halfway through the series at this point and I'm eager for it to be over and see how Jenna tops it. Also, what the fuck is up with the arrow dodging? It seems like 55.5% of the time Jenna forgets her own lore and the other 44.5% of the time, fuck all is happening. Will we ever see any of the characters mentioned again? Probably not! If it's not Reyna, funky Lorcan, stupid ass Fomorian Bitch, and Eislyn, you can bet they aren't gonna be done well!

Nollaig, you're saving this series but even your cloak can't hide the glaring plotholes and just bad decisions Jenna is making.

“I hate you. You burned a book!”

Book three felt a little more rushed than the first two books, but it was still a great read! Lorcan and Reyna have to find ways to fight apart and for one another to save the world. Reyna is, as always, a force to be reckoned with and I loved her. I enjoyed her inner dialogue with the Ruin and the transition from mindless power to realization. I don’t know how I feel about Eislynn’s story... it almost seemed like a rehash of her story in the first two books. Thane, though still important, was also insignificant, being separated from everyone else. There were more character POVs and they all felt so far apart from one another. I don’t know how I feel about that. I’m excited to see where the story goes though, especially after that epilogue.

1st reading: The writing's getting better, but I still wish she'd use more contractions. I'm enjoying the suspense brought on by not knowing which of the two sisters is the Namhaid (or is this also a red herring), plus now we need to worry about Lorcan's potential curse after having killed the wood king and the books left behind by Molt in the Tower of Thorns. And what the hell is Nollaig? And now there are humans involved. Interesting that this was sort of alluded to with Aengus and that no one could figure out which fae kingdom he was from - because it turns out he wasn't fae at all.
I enjoyed both the prologue in that it showed us the future with the Namhaid, but there's no way to know who it is - but it underscores by the end of the book that our heroes haven't prevented anything, and indeed may have made things worse by using the Ruin to help kill the wood king.

Complex and tidy. The intricate details, no matter how small, matter and count towards the building of the larger picture. Lots going on. Politics. War. Magic.

Personally, I had to skim the last 35% of this particular installment because I just wasn't feeling it. I wanted more of Eislyn's story and less about the thrones and endless marching from place to place--which are all great qualities of a wonderfully woven tale. Just wasn't what I was hungry for. 😕 I think I will read a few other titles before returning to the series. You really need to be in the mood for complex and two handfuls of POVs.

The personal experience aside, I'm truly impressed with Wolfhart. This world is incredibly developed and layered.

Wonderful Continuation of the Story

In this book we follow our two main protagonists, Lorcan and Reyna (and Thane and Eislyn) as they fight the evil that is spreading throughout the land. The author keeps the action and excitement at a high level and you are constantly waiting for the next surprise to occur. The world building is superb and lends itself to make the story more enjoyable. This is the type of book that you don’t want to put down until you get to the end and then you want the next book in the series right away.

Thoroughly enjoyed

I thoroughly enjoyed this third instalment of the Fallen Fae series. A lot of ups and downs, some epic battles, and a good dollop of romance with a touch of steam. Just as they get past their current challenges, a whole lot of new ones are beginning, most of which they aren't aware of yet. I do feel that the flow is continually interrupted by the changing pov's. Everytime you start to sink into the story, it switches and you have to sink in all over again. It's still a great read regardless.

Epic fantasy and hot romance

This book has a lot of action and many secrets are beginning to be uncovered. There aren't as many POV 's in this book, which makes it easier to follow. For some reason this series doesn't keep me hooked. I don't have a personal interest in the characters like I usually do in Jenna's books. I feel it's because things seem to have a way of resolving too neatly, which makes it less believable. I'll continue the series because I do enjoy the adventure and romance between the characters.

This book was simply… wow. It was full of bravery, sacrifice, strength, and valor. I never knew what to expect because nothing ever went as planned and the plot continued to get more and more complicated. I now have whip lash from the emotional rollercoaster it put me thought. I consider this series similar to ACOTAR meeting Game of Thrones. I highly recommend!! I can’t wait to read the next book.

Up to this point, this series has been one unfortunate event after another with one of the main characters having the meanest negative self talk imposed upon them and gosh does it make you feel. We finally get some good feels and resolution on some points and only more questions on others.
Again this book is spicier than the last, but the romance is not the main focus of this series and it's really refreshing.

I have so many emotions from this book! Reyna running around with the Ruin literally destroying her from the inside but still trying to save everyone. The Wood King..yikes! The betrayal, and deaths that happen as well. This book will definitely make you so mad! But that ending..I have so many questions!

Must read!

Oh Jenna! What do you do to me! I’m right there with Reyna, a calm life is not at their feet. Thank goodness the next book is already out because I don’t know what I’d do if it wasn’t.
This is a phenomenal read! If you have started this series, I highly recommend you start reading it now!

A Solution...Maybe

This book adds to the story of Reyna and Lorcan through a lot of darkness, violence, murder and mayhem. There are scenes that may make you scream, and then a plot twist comes later that takes those screams away. There are a bunch of loose ends that may be addressed in book four and the epilogue shoots us off in a whole new direction.

Dark and depressing

I was hoping that the series would have a little hope, a little light in it, but it’s a very dark and depressing read. No humor whatsoever. I might still finish the series, but it seems like it’s just gonna continue more of the same

Good read

If you like fantasy and the fae you'll definitely like this series. The ruin is certainly an interesting aspect to this story and I wonder how it will play out in the future since things have changed and there will be repercussions.

Wow this series! Just so dark. I mean really do we catch a break sometime? So many twists and turns and it seems like just as I invest in a character boom! Well I feel wrung out and exhausted after this roller coaster but just need to get right into the next book.

eh... This book felt different from the first two. Something just felt off. The wood court scenes felt repetitive and like nothing was being gained. So many people were dying that it felt futile. Everyone seemed like a useless person.

I love the story line but I can’t stand all the filler story line. How many obstacles does someone have to face before it becomes ridiculous. Maybe part of the problem is the whining from the audio but I’m really struggling to get keep going.
