ONE OF OUR OWN is on my shelf of “All-time Favorite Romances.” I read Lucas and Sloan’s story about once every six months because the characters are so wonderful and well-developed that I miss them when I go too long without paying them a visit. Cheryl Reavis has created a rich story world that warms my heart clear through and refreshes my senses. If you’re looking for the kind of story where the romance builds steadily along with the character development and leaves you cheering for hero and heroine at the end, check out this book!

a very beautiful story. it's my firt book by Cheryl Reavis, and i fell in love with the characters, with Sloane, Meggie, Patrick and the cutie Will.

a stoty about blood and family, about adoption, about abandon, losing anf finding back harmony. I cried hard. I wished the end to be more developped and to witnes Lucas reunification wwith Meggie and Patrick.
a wonderful story

Sloan Baron has come to Navajo Country to see her estranged brother—in critical condition after a car accident. She already has been caring for two of his children, and now she learns that he has a third child, a young half-Navajo boy. As she navigates the mess her brother has left behind, she finds an unlikely ally in Navajo Tribal Policeman Lucas Singer. Together, they try to unravel the laws regarding children on Indian Reservations. They also fall hard for each other. This is such a wonderful book! Ms. Reavis has created well-rounded characters that you’ll love and root for and cry over, along with a peek into the traditions and beliefs of the Navajo people. This is a story that will stay with you long after it’s ended. Moving and deeply romantic, I highly recommend.

Very very good!

I hope and pray that I will discover a brilliant author that I haven't come across before. It's like a special gift, Christmas morning or a birthday. Cheryl Reavis is super talented! She pretty much had me sobbing while reading this. And laughing . And rereading parts. Love this book!

Another great book from one of my favorite authors. Her realistic and sensitive depiction of the life of a native American is a heartwarming background and the characters are people you feel like you want to meet and get to know better.

I really enjoyed this book. Started out slowly, but I found the insight into the Havajo people really interesting. Loved the people in the book, some tears, but I found I couldn't put the book down until I finished. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

4 1/2 Stars! ~ Sloan Baron received an urgent call that her brother was in critical condition in Arizona and that his four year old son was being placed in a receiving home until family could be located. Her brother had disappeared five years ago, abandoning his nine year old daughter and teenage son into Sloan's care. So it came as an extra shock that Sloan had another nephew. Frantically Sloan packed up her Meggie and Patrick for the long drive from North Carolina to Arizona. Lucas Singer is a police officer with the Navajo Tribal Police and he's been assigned to greet Sloan and help her with Native matters. Shortly on arriving, Sloan's brother dies, and Sloan is anxious to meet her nephew and take him home to North Carolina. Only Sloan doesn't know that her nephew is half Navajo and as such has been legally entrusted to the tribe for his up bringing. Lucas at first sees only a white woman and he distrusts Sloan's motives. He's been in a very bad relationship where a white woman had taken his love only to throw it back at him. Sloan sees honour in Lucas and appeals to him for his help.

There's alot of emotion in this story. Sloan has to be strong for the children already in her care and for the nephew she feels she should be raising. Lucas although very distrustful of Sloan at first, realizes that Sloan is not like the woman who broke his heart. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was pleased that in the end the two cultures could come together.

THAT SPECIAL WOMAN! She's friend, wife, mother--she's you! And beside each Special Woman stands a wonderful special man.
