This novel creates memorable characters from various countries and shows us how a new avian flu virus affects their lives and the world around them. It balances scientific facts, military involvement, and human stories. It takes place after our current Coronavirus and proves to be even deadlier. This woven tale follows the heroic front-line workers and scientists as they struggle for a positive outcome. I found it to be original, complex, and moving. It really kept me turning the pages.

Excellent mix of science and fiction, illustrates how an outbreak could evolve with human interest stories and a mostly happy ending. Clearly well researched and realistic story. I noticed a few inconsistencies (virus cell, tu/vous, duck migration, droplet/aerosol precautions), however these didn’t really distract from the story and may be due to the short editorial timeline in publishing in 2020.

The world is facing a deadly new virus. Sound familiar? In this instance, I’m speaking of Kevin E. Ready’s fiction, not fact; however, this particular story says a lot about the current state of the world.

This was an interesting read during COVID-19. It has great, believable characters. It brought to light some interesting ideas about vaccines, politics and how they are tied together.

This book was so relevant today and very interesting to read. It followed a few characters from different countries and how they handled the situations. Some of the parts were a little too technical and scientific for me, but very informative. I enjoyed the writing and character development. Such an original story. Amazing to think how much of this was written before the current pandemic and is still so accurate and relatable. I would give it a 4.5 if possible.
