Mary O’Reilly #8

Broken Promises

Rate this book
Clarissa yawned and rubbed her eyes. “Will I ever meet an angel, Daddy?” she asked, as she snuggled into her pillow.

He leaned over and kissed her on her forehead. “I’m sure you will, sweetheart,” he said. “You just have to watch for them.”

She nodded sleepily. “Night Daddy, I love you.”

“I love you too,” he whispered, to the already sleeping child.

A fierce feeling of protectiveness struck him as he watched her sleep from the doorway. There is no way anyone is going to take her from us, he vowed silently. Not while I’m alive.

The trial for Gary Copper has begun, but was there another murder in his past? One that would change the future for Bradley’s daughter? And as Rosie and Stanley prepare for their wedding, they both have some ghosts in their own closets they will have to deal with.

I totally enjoyed the random plots of this books. Without spoilers: Clarissa and Becca's situation was a tear-jerk. Rosie and Stanley another tear-jerk. Just loved this book. With an ending like this, I just can't wait for the next book. Terri keep writing and you can bet I'll keep reading.

I loved this book, I read it in one day. This is book 8 of the series, the story flowed and the ending was a surprise.

I have enjoyed this whole series and one reason is that I am able to share these books with my elderly mother and my daughter. They all have a great story, keeps you on your toes, and a good clean read.

Ms. Reid needs to get book #9 out because I can't wait.

Smiling

A nice romantic story. Two of my favorite characters got married. A wonderful twist at the end when my favorite character showed up.

On to the next adventure.

I LOVE this series. In all honesty, I have suffered for years from clinical depression, and was suffering from a very serious downturn. This series helped get me through. The friendship, the camaraderie, the family, the love and laughter, helped tremendously. It was extremely helpful in getting me to that turning point back to me.

I laughed till my belly hurt, then cried until I couldn't see the words. I felt anger and betrayal for those whose journey was suspended. I found redemption, grace, and, most of all, hope. I loved the ghosts/spirits (except for those malevolent ones), the mortals, the story lines and resolutions. I loved the lessons these stories conveyed, and the poignancy with which they were told.

I have several favorite characters, Mary and Bradley (and, by extension, Clarissa), being the foundation. Ian is someone I want to meet, and get to know, and just listen to him talk. Hopefully, he wears the black shirt (but don't tell Gillian I said that...it's strictly platonic, I swear). Mike. Dear Mike. I cried so hard for him for some reason, especially the role he was given. It was a sweetness that I didn't even know i was craving. I love Mike. I want Mike on my side. Always. Rosie & Stanley, such a opposites-attract couple, yet full of love. The O'Reilly clan. Can I move in with them?? Or maybe just visit Ireland with Sean??

I suspended all other reading until I got through the entire series, and feel as though these characters are my friends and family. Please, please, please, give me more!

Note: I would love to give this series 4 1/2 stars, or even 5, but the grammatical and punctuation errors just don't cut it for me. Miss Terri, your writing is superb. Let it be polished until it glows. Let me be your proofreader (beta reader?).

Disappointed

Not a fan of the predictable court parts & my least favorite of the series this far (hoping that's not a trend). I have a question why do writers feel the need to have people say the 1st & last names of the people they love?! I don't know anyone who does that in real life. I've noticed it in several series I've read & it bothers me as it has in this series but I don't get it. I never say "I love you insert 1st & last name of my husband." It makes the conversation seem not natural & flowing. I've asked around & people don't really do that ALL THE TIME like they do in this book (&other books from other authors I've read). Occasionally, maybe but several times in one book - nope. I love you Mary or Bradley - sure but 1st & last name. No. Also, yes Mary may never have had sex but has she never seen it in movies or read about it in a book?! She's an adult but when it comes to sex she acts like a preteen. It bothered me. It was predictable with the way play it Gary Cooper went - right up to the end. He's not some evil mastermind Bond Villain - it seems forced & a bit ridiculous. She doesn't need some evil super villain to make the books good. It takes away from what is at the core. Having a larger than life nemesis is too much especially when he's not all that. Disappointed is an understatement.

Book 8 5 stars

I think that says it all for this cozy supernatural enhanced mystery. I enjoy the mystery and the characters are so well structured that you sorta expect to see these folks at church or the occasional community picnic. I also appreciate the fact that as strong a woman as the main character is, she needs the help of the good people around her to help solve the mysteries she is working on as a private investigator and to navigate her way through life.

Broken Promises

Wow!! So much is going on in this book, both good and bad. Yet at the same time Reid brings together all the elements in the story without dropping a single ball. The story is seamless and amazing. I love these wonderful characters. I'm not going to lie though, I totally did a happy dance at a certain moment at the end. I highly recommend this series

Thank goodness

I actually cried in the last book when Mike did what he was supposed to do. It's sad how Maggie and Mary miss Mike so much but heart warming at the same time. Poor Clarissa hasn't gotten break since birth. Her circumstances in this book will bring years to your eyes. Awesome cliffhanger.

Well written series

I have been enjoying the series. This book was a difficult read for me. While there were happy times in it the overall theme is pretty dark. I did not enjoy it as much as the others. I did leave a higher rating because it is well written. Others may not have the difficult time I had with it.

I really like how these books follow day to day. One book ends and the other picks up immediately. Glad to have Rosie and Stanley married finally. Hopefully Clarissa will be ok. I hope that truly is Mike the fireman with her.

We get a return visit from one of our favorites. This book was heartbreak ling sad, that poor sweet little Clarissa how broken her young life has been, but she never gave up, in the end she gets her very own Guardian Angel, and finally away to her HEA.

Anxiously Appealing

An uncomfortable but really good read. Not to disclose the plot, the topic with the family always makes me uncomfortable, as it should. It made me anxious, yet was appealing. Must keep reading.

The fun part of a series like this one is that you are immediately in the story. I wish the books were a bit longer so I didn’t have to keep buying!

With each book, the story grabs me more and more. I normally can't read a whole series without breaking it up with another book. This series is very different! I have to keep going!!
