They're going to assassinate the president on Inauguration Day. Can he stop them?
After he’s fired from the Department of Domestic Counterterrorism, former agent Blake Jordan heads to DC for president-elect Keller's inauguration. But there are men in power who won't let that happen.
When Keller asks Blake to create an off-the-books black ops team to stop terrorists, he refuses. But when someone tries to take Blake out of the picture, he learns of a plot to assassinate Keller.
If he wants to stop the killers, Blake must form a team to save his friend. But the terrorists have something far more sinister planned... and it can’t be stopped because it’s already been done...
I love a good political thriller, particularly when the story gains momentum in the early chapters and keeps up that pace. I discovered Ken Fite’s first book by accident and was blown away, forcing me to rush to secure the rest of this series to date, four books at last count. I ended up steamrolling through each of the first two books, taking under a day apiece, and am waiting to get started on the next one. It’s almost Inauguration Day and Blake Jordan has made his way to Washington to be a part of the festivities, as well as join the West Wing team as a senior advisor to the new American president. Accompanying him is his former work colleague, Jami Davis, who is still working out of the Chicago office of the Department of Domestic Counterintelligence (DDC). Removed from his position there after a gaffe the previous summer, Jordan is pleased to start his new role, but enjoys the DDC updates. As they settle in the day before the event, Jordan and Davis are alerted to some chatter that a terror strike has been planned for the DC area on the day of the inauguration, though there is little else that has been revealed. All intel points to a cell of Somali terrorists who crossed the border, though even that has yet to be fully verified. As Jordan briefs his new boss, Agent Davis tries to liaise with other agencies to substantiate the threat. With a group working to bring down the Administration, someone targets Jordan to remove him from the mix, in hopes of neutralising the largest threat to a successful attack. Time is running out and it would seem no one is safe, nor can they be trusted! Stunning in its delivery, Fite stirs up the drama and pulls the reader in throughout this piece. Recommended for those who love a good thriller and particularly to the reader who thoroughly enjoyed the series debut novel. As some of the blurbs on the book report, this one can be read as a standalone, but complements the previous novel nicely.
Ken Fite is able to mix the intensity of a thriller novel with the ever-changing dynamic of American politics. Adding to some of the groundwork from the opening novel, Fite delves deeper into the world of Blake Jordan post-DDC and the amazing job he has before him. There remains little backstory on offer—but a few tidbits do emerge during a heated exchange in the latter portion of the novel— but it becomes readily apparent that Blake Jordan is a man on a mission, one who cannot stop until the job has been completed. Jordan is determined to get to the heart of the matter, full of surprises and with a need to leave no stone unturned. While no longer working together officially, Jordan and Agent Jami Davis pair up nicely to get to the core of the terror threat, leaving the reader to wonder if there is a future for these two away from work. Based on my quick reading of the first two novels, Jordan has much room to grow and develop as a character, though he continues to find ways to keep the reader interested. The handful of other characters who made their debut in the last novel and return here help to flavour the narrative, while a strong group of new faces shape the plot and keep the story unique. We shall see what other political and personal scenarios arise, based on how this novel ended, but Fite is sure to have some strong ideas and equally effective characters to help shape the series as it gets stronger. The pace of the novel helps make it stand out and will surely grab the reader’s attention from the outset. Short chapters leave little time to think on what is taking place, thrusting the reader forward and forcing them to ‘read late into the night’ as the dust jacket blurb hopes will happen. Either that, or a day-long binge as I undertook to finish, just so I that I could say I learned how things wrapped up. I will definitely be reaching for Book 3 to see what direction Blake Jordan takes as he moves forward.
Kudos, Mr. Fite, for a great continuation of the series. I cannot wait to see what else you have to come!
Second book in this series and it's also very good. From the start I was engaged and entertained. Somalia terrorist planned on attacking the presidential inauguration ceremony, they have plenty of insiders help too. Black Jordan promised his dad to protect his friend. He only has 24 hours to find the people and stop the attack. Fast moving story. Usually don't point out some inconsistency or editing mistakes if they don't effect the plot. But these two in my opinion does. Truck driver's cell was turned off and left in this pick-up, his wife couldn't follow him where he was going. But calls him to find out when he was coming home. Why Blake called for a ride back, he was sitting in the car and had the keys?
A very enjoyable read. I have been reading so many of this type of book lately. This is one of the better ones. I like the characters and their development throughout.
Fast-paced political thriller. Bravo! I checked this book out for free as an Amazon Prime member, and was pleasantly surprised. A believable plot, gripping story and lead characters I like. Take note, this is an engrossing story that is told without sex, graphic violence or extremely foul language and takes place in Washington, DC.
An interesting quote from the book.."... in the Anacostia neighborhood. The streets were run-down, as were the small homes. Hard to believe we were minutes away from a town full of the most powerful men and women in the world. A government who couldn’t even improve a neighborhood just a few miles away."
The main character is out of control, constantly putting himself in harm's way. None of the Federal agencies (FBI, CIA, etc) play well with each other. One more chance, Mr. Fite, otherwise it's bye bye, Blake Jordan.
Though I liked the story I just couldn't believe that a President elect would be treated like this. The FBI agent in charge just spares 1 guy to help even after the president elect tells him. Why is no agency trying to make it easy for Blake even when he works on the behest of the president elect.
I "read" the audiobook of this. And I had the strangest experience. For the first half to two-thirds of the book, it SKIPPED forwards and backwards, every chapter. I would be listening to chapter 5 and the next thing I knew, it was chapter 39. And then it would go to chapter 17. I didn't have any idea what was going on until it played the same chapter I had already listened to previously. Then, it went to chapter 55, which was near the end of the book. And I knew something funky was going on. After I had listened to a chapter 3 times, I fast forwarded through it. Once the book got about 2/3 of the way through, it seemed to "right itself." From there, everything seemed to be fine. Weirdest thing I have ever had happen with an audiobook.
The story itself was fine. This is apparently the second book in a series. I did not read the first book, but the way this is written, you could follow along just fine, without it. I might have enjoyed it a little more if I had read the first one, but it is not necessary, strictly speaking.
This was just okay, for me, otherwise. I would consider reading another book in the series, but I am not going to rush to do so.
Blake Jordan has gone through several major loses and changes since accepting the job of protecting Senator Keller in book one. In spite of his success in saving Keller, he was fired by the DD afterward, but Jami kept her job there. They are now a couple and are in DC where Blake is starting a new job as an advisor to president elect Keller. But when Blake and Jami attend their respective pre inauguration meetings, they learn of a credible threat against Keller, one that doesn't ring true to Jami. Then Blake goes missing and Jami again goes up against egos, misinformation and misdirection as she tries to find him, and by extension, the persons behind the imminent attack. This is an exciting KU Library read and addition to the series, one that kept me up well past bedtime. I am looking forward to book three.
This seemed so close to our actual last presidential election where America needed to get back on the right path after eight years of being mislead. This story dealt with the outgoing president Rouse (rhymes with louse) supporters trying to prevent the inauguration of a new president planning to undo as much of the damage caused by previous administration.
The hero here, after being fired in series #1 while his partner stayed on without him but now is his love interest, gets a new job in #2 with the new president. Of course he comes thru once again saving the new president’s life, and will take on another new job in the next book in this series.
What a waste of time! The story would fill.about 10 pages, the rest of the book is made up by essentially meaningless side stories. The English is decent but not grreat, the punctuation sometimes erratic. I wish I could get my time back . Still a mystery is the unheard of high rating, some explanation maybe found at the end of the book where a free new book is promised after the author read your review. I probably should have been a little less critical, but somebody has to balance the scale .
This is an improvement from book one and I have great hopes for Ken. The characters still need a little work to become important to me, the reader. The story development could use some research from the law enforcement agencies for procedures and practices. Stop trying to make Blake into the male version of "The Perils of Pauline." An aside, I am stingy about 5 stars.
Although entertaining at times, I found myself judging the sentence structures every page.
For example, “I looked up and saw Chris and Jami across the street. I passed behind the car to join them, and we shielded our eyes from the shattering glass.”
I find the author’s use of the word “and” to be that of a grammar school student; “and” is not a substitute for correctly writing “as we shielded…”
How could this level of grammar get a 4 star review?
Keller is set to be the next president but there are rumors about a terrorist threat at the inauguration. Jamie and Blake are in DC because Blake has been asked to serve as an advisor to the President. Blake is kidnapped and once he escape, he and Jamie try to figure out who is involved and what the actual threat is. Secret service agents, members of Kellers cabinet, aides to high ranking officials are all suspected of being involved.
Another excellent thriller by Ken Fire. It picked up seamlessly from The Senator and continued the exciting story leaving open the door to Claudia...surely a thread to be followed in the next novel. This book was so tension-filled that I read it in two sittings. Where's Book 3 Ken?
Great book. Love this series. Blake Jordan has become one of my favorite characters. He tries to play inside the law but he has a habit of going a little renegade. He's not perfect, has his flaws but that just make him more likeable. That makes for exciting reading. Lots of action, a good plot, and twists that you aren't expecting.
Truly enjoyed this second book in the series. Thanks, Kindle Unlimited. The character development and story in this book was amazing. I love the intrigue. Blake is the kind of man I'd want in our government right now. He has the smarts and integrity to get the job done.
I'm looking forward to continuing the series and recommend you give this author and series a read.
Mr Fite has written another good story. Blake Jordon is a fairly complex guy but, as a hero should, ends up doing the right thing. For some reason that I can't quite figure out, I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, but I plan on reading #3. The characters are interesting enough that I want to what happens next.
The plot, the characters, the political setting are all excellent and all culminating in a fast paced thriller that holds your attention from start to finish. I highly recommend this series and I recommend that you read them in sequence. I have already purchased the third book in the series and will begin reading it immediately.
I don’t know how much Ken Fite took from Obama/Trump error election, but it sure rings true. This plot to overthrow the newly elected President is not that far from Democrats wanting to waste Trump at any cost. It is a great read for political action thrillers. I think Blake Jordan is a great character that gets er done. Enjoyable book that will have me following up with the others. 5
I enjoyed the 1st bk of the series, now I look fwd 2 the next 1. Unrealistic overall b'cuz I would think our Secret Service would b more thorough in their duties. However, the idea of something like this ever happening (esp with this current WH) I could see a coup of this sort.
I wasn't really sure what to expect getting into this series but I've been happily surprised. Im usually not one to reach for the political genre but there is more than enough mystery and thrill to keep me turning the pages. I highly recommend this series to someone looking for a quick read that will change up their typical choice!
Blake Jordan is back, this time to thwart the threat to his mentor Keller, , ( ready to be sworn in as commander in chief). I really liked the book as Blake was running all about DC, and as I live here, I recognized some of the places. I think some of the spots were fictitious. Again, our hero, manages to save the day, through a complicated plot of twists and turns. Another fun read.
Better than the first book. Super fast paced and this time set in dc. I just wish the editing and research was a little better. As someone who lives in the DC area none of the scenery being described made sense for the location. There were also a few typos. I can look past those two things though and will continue on with the series
Another outstanding Blake Jordan story! This time he's attempting to save the president elect and his entire cabinet from annihilation. Starting number 3 in the series right now.
Ken Fire is s excellent writer!!! I can actually see his books come to life! With the state of our own political fiasco I can see this happening. We all need to remember that God is the one who puts those in power for God’s plan.
It took me about a week to get thru it, not because I'm a slow reader, but because I could put it down. I still enjoyed it, just didn't capture my curiosity as much as some other books.
Good plot, and a fun read. Dialogue is getting better, but not his strength. I confess sometimes I keep reading the books in a series to find out what’s going on next in the life of the characters. So that says something about the books so far!
I read this in one sitting! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s the first one I’ve read by Ken Fite but certainly not the last. I’ll be looking for more! I will recommend to my friends who read this genre.
Hold on for a fast paced amazing ride! I couldn't put this book down. The storyline takes you on a thrill ride with character development beyond brilliant! Can't wait to start reading book 3
