International Bad Boys #2

The Arrogant Artist

Rate this book
A Billionaire Boss Romance

Louis Marchant—artist of our generation.
More like the most arrogant artist of our generation.

The man looks like Michelago has carved him with his bare hands.
Kissable soft lips.
The perfect amount of five o’clock shadow stretched across his square jaw.
Add in that delicious French accent and oh là là.
And then there’s his giant… Um, never mind, it’s still connected to him.

No amount of magnificence can take away the fact that he’s the most arrogant man in the history of France—no, the world.
He also happens to be my new boss.

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. I sure as hell will never read from this writer. I had tried another book from her and sworn I would never read her books but then, silly me, I forgot. That was a good reminder!

*********************************************

Louis is a melancholic artist who is in depression after finding out his wife was f*cking anyone she liked behind his back. He sees the truth after he catches her mid-f*ck with his protégé, whom he saw as a brother.

Then, he goes to a dark place in his mind. All his paintings lose color and they are all black and dark. He is angry at the world and at her ex-wife. He thinks he has lost his muse and he is so very depressed. He is pathetic!

I pull out my cell, and I know what I’m doing is a slippery slope, but I’m desperate, desperate for my daily hit. I unlock it and pull up her account. God, she’s beautiful. I stare at her face, trying to remember what her skin felt like, how her body felt, hoping and praying that through the screen, she can bring back some of my magic that she took away when she left me. There’s a photograph of her at the beach dressed in the skimpiest of bikinis, her large breasts almost spilling out of the black fabric. Her skin is sun-kissed, and I know she has an all-over tan because she hates the lines. My dick twitches to life thinking about her curves, remembering every inch of her glorious body. I pull out my dick. This is what I need—I want to feel dirty jerking off to an image of my ex-wife, or maybe I just want to feel something, anything, and if this is the only way, then dammit, I’m going to do it.

*********************************************

Emily, the heroine, is hired by Louis’s brother as his assistant. At first, Louis really acts as a dick to Emily. He is rude and obscene. Nearly half of the book, Louis gives himself a pity party while Emily tries to help him.

“I can’t paint anymore. I mean I can paint, just not like I used to. Not like everyone wants me to.”

I’ve utterly embarrassed myself now, ripping open my wound to a stranger who’s standing in front of me. Emily’s hand comes out and rests on my arm. “Sometimes, you need to seek the darkness to find the light.”

Her words resonate with me. That’s where I am at the moment, in the darkness, but I don’t know if I’ll ever see the light again or even if I want to.
“I’m so far in the darkness, Emily, I can’t get out.”

She frowns. “Maybe it won’t happen today or tomorrow, but one day soon, you’ll push through.”

“It’s been four months, and I’m still hurt, and most definitely as angry as the day it all happened. She left me for a better, newer, younger version of this ‘washed-up’ artist.”

To the reader and also to Emily, it is clear that Louis misses his ex-wife very much and it is so unpleasant in a romance book where the love focus should be on him and Emily, not his ex-wife.

He obviously loved his wife more than anything in the world, and her betrayal has ripped at his core.

*********************************************

This book is not SAFE!!!

While going through his pity party, Louis f*cks countless women in his house, gives orgy parties etc.

Once he makes one of the women in his pool party give him a blow job while Emily is watching them through her window.

He even f*cks his friend’s girlfriend at a party he went to with Emily and she catches him in the garden doing that.

If you are one of those readers who don’t want the hero to be with anyone else after he meets the heroine, this is so not your book because he does it so many times!

I notice Louis lazing on a daybed, lounging back and looking like a king. Women are pandering to him, desperately trying to gain his attention.

I realize he’s staring right at me with his penetrating glare. Is he trying to intimidate me? Is this some kind of payback for my late-night swim in his pool? Is he seriously this childish?

I’m not looking away, Louis Marchant. You can try and push me to the edge, but I’m not going anywhere. You have no idea how desperate I am to keep this job, so give it your best shot, asshole, because I’m not leaving. I simply raise a brow. Daring him. Pushing him to give me his best shot.

He looks away for a moment, his hand motioning for someone to come to him. One of the bikini-clad women comes into view. I can’t hear what they are saying above the obnoxious music, but I don’t have to know what words are exchanged because their actions are making it pretty clear.

The woman moves herself between his legs and the next thing I know, her head is bobbing up and down. Is she seriously giving him a blow job in the middle of the party?

Louis’ eyes catch mine again as his fingers tangle in her hair, forcing himself deeper down her throat. Well, one thing’s for sure, she’s taking it like a champ. My cheeks heat at the images playing out in front of me. Louis’ eyes don’t leave mine while he gives me a ‘fuck you’ smirk as he enjoys his blow job. What a fucking asshole.

***

I’m beyond tired and feeling a little flustered. Louis’ party went until the early hours of the morning. I am sure the sun was up. After his attempt to give me a show by the pool failed, I tried to go back to bed to grab some sleep, but it was to no avail.

I wanted to start fresh on day one of my new job, but due to the private porn performance some woman decided to give early in the morning, sleep wasn’t an option. Having to listen to some woman fake an orgasm, and badly at that, at five in the morning was certainly not how I wanted to start my day.

***

Begrudgingly, I make my way to the gardens. Grabbing my cell, I flick the torchlight setting on so I can find my way in the darkness. I search for a good ten minutes until I round a corner and find a white ass with pants around their ankles. I move the light up the body, and tanned legs are wrapped around the waist. I move higher, and the light catches their faces.

“What the fuck?” Selena screams, trying to shield her eyes from the bright torchlight.

“What the fuck, Emily?” Louis screams as he continues to pump into Selena.

Shit! I turn on my heel and move away quickly. Ugh, such a fucking asshole. He’s fucking his friend’s girlfriend in the bushes, and here I was thinking he was in trouble. I was worried I was going to find him in a pool of his own vomit. I’m a damn idiot.

I stomp back into the party, push my way through the people, and walk out to the driveway where all the cars are located. I find our driver and our car parked about one hundred feet up the road and make my way to the car. “Oh, Miss Emily.” Yanis, our driver, looks at me startled. “Are you ready to go?” I open the door and slam it shut. “No. Louis hasn’t finished screwing some woman in the bushes yet. I guess when he’s done, we can go.”

He even continues to f*ck his way around after he kisses Emily.

“Do you know who I am?” Louis thumps his chest.

“Yeah, I do.” Those eyes narrow in on me as if to say that doesn’t answer the question, so I continue, “I actually went to your art exhibition in London years ago, when I was in university…” he tilts his head at my change of subject, “… and it was magnificent. You inspired me. The colors. The way they danced across the canvas. I went home and painted some of my best work after that exhibition. So, yes, Mr. Marchant, I know who you are.”

Louis stares at me for a couple of seconds, then turns on his heel and heads toward his studio, the one he’s destroyed.

“But I also know you’re not that busy now because you have spent the past forty-eight hours in an alcoholic orgy daze.”

My words stop him in his tracks as his hand reaches the doorknob of his studio. “You know those women mean nothing to me.”

Of all the things I thought he’d say to me, that wasn’t one of them.

“Okay.”

Because, you know? Like I care. Not like I haven’t thought about that kiss we had a while ago or anything. I mean, he’s probably forgotten all about it, and he’s replaced my touch with a million others since then.

As you see from these quotes, Louis is not everyone’s hero and I personally disliked him very much.

*********************************************

After I was sure I wanted to drop the book, my curiosity won and I started to skim and scan the book to see how their romance and passion would evolve and here it is:

During her first sex, he kisses her and then takes her into his bedroom saying how he would worship her and it FADES TO BLACK!!!

description

Yeah, after all the shitstorm you endure as a reader, you don’t even have one decent “lovemaking scene” between the hero and the heroine.

I checked all chapters carefully, skimming slowly and nope, whenever they have sex, it all fades to black and she wakes up sore. It is like a joke!!!

A good writer would try to create some incredibly passionate lovemaking scenes in order to make the reader forget about all his past acts but nope, there is none... like I would ever forget but it sucks that the writer never tries, you know.

*********************************************

The book is full of as many absurd happenings as possible such as two attempts of rape on the heroine, who was actually raped when she was a teenager.

The writer fills the book with whatever she can think of such as the heroine finding her long lost mother with the help of the hero etc.

Once again, I have become sure that I should never touch any other work she writes. Nope. Never again.

I’ll admit, there was a point (the party by the pool) where I wanted to junk punch Louis!

He was the epitome of the reclusive, self-centred artist on a bender! And he needed to be slapped out of it!

Enter Emily!

First of all, she deserved so much more than the rich, little mamas boy Toby, and I was so glad that throughout this book she not only found a spine of steel but also her true passion and self.

Even though the characters were complex and drew you to them, for me this book (more than any of JA Lows others) was her best yet! The parallels made between the emotions the characters were dealing with and the art (the rainbow of colours) made me feel like I was standing in the field filled with bright yellow sunflowers with them.

I’m recommending this book to everyone!

I have to say right from the start that I loved this story, every bit of it. This author totally rocks!

After a disastrous breakup with Toby, her boyfriend of five years, Emily Chapman accepts a job in the south of France as the assistant to Louis Marchant, a famous artist. Things are not easy, to say the least, with this tempestuous artist who is in a downhill spiral-both personally and professionally. Emily is sure she is up for the job though!

Oh what wonderful characters and although Louis can be a cantankerous, selfish man, he is also a character I liked. I felt sorry for him and applauded the way Emily handled him. Her strength and determination is fabulous, even when he is a big jerk. He knows it too! 😉 Daniel is another character that is easy to like, as well as so many others like Gabriel that I truly hope there will be more books. Likewise, the less savoury characters are painted very clearly in all their very clear colours too.

What beautiful scenery and the descriptions are sensational, I literally felt like I was being taken away to these exotic places and it was so refreshing. This author has a remarkable talent for painting vivid images, thank you.

I need to touch on the fact that the passionate intimacy between the lead characters is off the charts red hot. 🔥 So flammable I was getting hot myself, yet nothing was over the top and everything was written in an extremely tasteful manner.

This fast paced, easy to read story is one that I actually wanted to slow down, I didn’t want it to finish I enjoyed it so much. The growth in characters, the touches of drama that weren’t overdone and the beautiful romance all create one brilliant love story.

What an emotional, beautifully written must read! Penned in such vivid detail, Emily and Louis' story completely pulled me down into the pages of this book. Watching how timid and insecure (understandably so, you need to read this and find out why) Emily was at the beginning and seeing her grow, becoming more sure of herself and getting a backbone was great. I loved how dark, broody and unbearable Louis started out as but Emily got through the darkness and brought out the best of him. I loved the comparison between life and how it influences art and the artist that creates it. This book isn't all sunshine and rainbows, there is darkness that counterbalances the story and makes it just that much better. This is the first book that I've read by this author and I'm glad that I did! I recommend having a box of Kleenex and setting aside a few hours as once you dive into this book, you won't want to put it down.

I enjoyed this book, and the idea of Emily finding her way back to herself after what her douche ex did to her. And Louis also has an interesting back story, so they have more in common than they initially realise.

Emily sure wasn't shy about giving it back to Louis and setting him in his place. That was really awesome to see. And probably the kick in the you know where, that he needed. These two have a very rough start, and it's interesting to see how they work they way forwards from there.

This book also has some great secondary characters who I would like to learn more about, if JA Low decides to give us their stories as well. There are also some not so nice characters in this one, who I truly hated.

There's the perfect balance of snark and sweet, and hate and love combined through all the types of characters and tracks that this story takes us down.

The only thing that let it down for me, was a personal pet hate, where some of the grammar and worlds seemed to be incorrect. Some of these things stuck out a little too much and just stuck in my mind. Apart from those little things, which as I said, is something that I personally noticed, so may not be noticed by everyone, I did really enjoy this story and I sped through it. Would recommend.

What an emotionally challenging story, but a fantastic read... I'm so in love with Emily and Louis, two broken relationships, an artist on the edge and an art major student with no direction in the South of France, this is where the magic happens. Louis is an artist whose gone from being top of his game to losing his wife and then spiralling out of control into drink and women... enter Emily whose recently single and after a drunken night finds herself the newest assistant to the Louis Marchant and her first impressions of him have her second guessing her decision... but both Emily and Louis have a stubborn streak and both secretly feel the pull of attraction to each other. This book was a fabulously written story of love, loss and the magic of how art whether darkness or light tells a story in itself. I can't recommend this book highly enough and I'm so excited to see what JA comes up with next.

Emily thought she was about to get a marriage proposal, but instead got the surprise of a lifetime when Toby took her to dinner to break up with her. He was a real jerk and made sure to insult and humiliate her in the process. Then she gets drunk with her girlfriends and applies for her dream job. When she actually gets hired she is both shocked and elated. Then she finally meets her boss. Louis is drunk and very cruel when he meets her. He's been living on tequila and misery since he caught his wife with his protege. Poor Emily has her work cut out for her, but she doesn't let his anger and cruelty ruin this opportunity, and eventually she is able to bring him back from the terrible place he's been stuck in. This book was amazing....I felt anger, sadness, excitement, happiness...I loved it!!

Arrogant Artist by JA Low is a forced proximity, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, billionaire, boss/employee, office romance. I really enjoyed this book. Louis and Emily are two equally broken and complex people. Despite their pasts and their preconceived notions about themselves, these two were perfect for each other. The chemistry between the two was perfect and the way they dealt with their emotions drew me to these characters. The imagery and how Low related their dialogue and thoughts to their craft was beautiful. I really didn’t want this beautifully written love story to end.

DNF.

Goddammit. Is it so much to ask that every other romance book NOT be porn?
That it NOT have a stupid heroine that - of course - has to be a klutz that trips and falls before the 'hero' and babbles on like an eejit when she's nervous?
How about a hero whose NOT hung up on his whore ex for half the book?

And about the trend of 'I'm gonna be a sneaky creeper and gawp at the hero having a good hard wank and get all horny as I watch'?
How about NO?!?
Is it hot to watch someone pleasure themselves? Really? Because I never saw the appeal and really don't want to read about it!
I also don't appreciate a 'hero' who fancies fisting a woman's hair while choking her with his cock until she gags and has tears running. That's not sexy or romantic. It's demeaning and ugly.

This book has anal, which is a hard no for me. It also hints at spanking, rough sex and kink and the writer clearly fancies Christian Grey, who is so last decade. Not how I roll.

The hero, Louis, is a disgusting, destructive, drunken and dirty pig. I don't care how gorgeous and successful and famous someone is, it doesn't give them license to behave the way Louis has so far. I dislike him too much to change my mind and there's no chance anyway of me ever liking a man who lets a woman suck him off in full view of the heroine and who enjoys jam his cock in women's arses and down their throats. Sorry, that's nasty, and men with those proclivities don't change. Emmy is such a dumb pudding that eventually she'll let him demean her, and that won't earn my respect.

Unless the story is M/M, which I've been known to read from time to time, I don't want butt stuff in my romances. I don't want to give my money to writers that include an act I find repulsive between a man and a woman, and whose characters can't go for 30 seconds without some sleazy, oversexed thought and mentally objectifying one another. I want stories, not soft porn.

First and last by this writer. No recommendation, because yuck.

Also, hire an editor. My teenaged son has better grammar.

I have loved every single book J.A. Low has released so far and Love In Colour is no different. The characters just spoke to me and made me fall in love with them. I was completely captured from the first pages.

Emily is such a lovely, caring lady who has not had the best relationships in the past. Her ex is a jerk and she should have smelt the coffee a lot sooner; thank god that ended! Her friends are excellent, so supportive and really do have Emily's best interests at heart. They pushed her to go for her dream job, which leads to the adventure of her life.

Louis is an idiot for a fair bit of the story but it's understandable when you get to know his whole story and I totally forgave him. There are moments I wanted to have a good talk with both Louis and Emily throughout the book. They should let their past go, but that just real life too I guess.

The plot just got better and better as the story progressed and had me in tears, laughing and holding my breath in anticipation. I really am hoping there is a story for Louis's brother, Daniel. He is yummy and I need to get to know him better. Just another great book from one of my favourite authors and a must read for everyone else.

I pictured cover model as Louis all along.

Wow, Louis is a full on mess. If there could be a stereotypical temperamental artist type he'd be it. Wife cheated on him and he spends months in drunken debauchery.
Emily gets dumped by a five year long relationship and she recovers a bit better because she's a decent person nor is she rich...she has to work.

She gets job as Louis's assistant. He's rude and drunk, has loud parties and doesn't want to paint.

Emily is wonderful.

I liked the story and the setting. Some was over the top but in a good for the story way.

Lovely read. I want to paint lavender in France now!!

OMG! I absolutely love this book. I couldn’t put it down and didn’t want to. Amazing!!

Emily meets Louis when she goes to work for him. Emily’s boyfriend,Toby goes out to diner with Emily and she is assuming he is going to propose but doesn’t.Toby breaks up with her, he is going to New York for work and he doesn’t want her to go with. He tells her he has been seeing someone else in New York for six months. Toby tells her he’ll be gone for two years and when he returns they can get back together. Emily gets together with her girlfriends to forget about Toby, and they find her a new job. Louis wife Elisabeth is cheating on him, has been for a while. He comes home to find her with Yves his protege. He comes home to find Yves and Elisabeth in the middle of their art work making out. Louis drinks, has parties with women, and needs to get over Elisabeth it’s been four months. Daniel, Louis’s half brother and Matthieu, their cousin is trying to repair Louis and his reputation, getting his art work back out. Emily get a phone call, goes to her interview with Daniel, and is hired as Louis’s assistant. Daniel needs her to start right away, and that is no problem. He tells her his artist is temperamental, can be hard to work with and she can leave anytime. She asks who she’ll be working with and he doesn’t want to tell her yet. Emily heads to Toby’s apartment to collect the rest of her things to move to South of France. She finds Toby there and he tells her they need to talk. He tells her he still loves her, and reaches out for her. She tells him to stop, he doesn’t love her anymore, he’s moving to New York and she’s moving to the South of France. He tells her he’s sorry, that she was the perfect girlfriend and that he let other people convince him he deserved better. He tells her she lost her ambition and she could have been something. She tells him she was something and she loved him and that wasn’t enough for him. Daniel meets Emily at the airport then drives her to her new home. He shows her around, and to her room and tells her she has the house to herself tonight. Emily asks Daniel again who she is working for, he takes her downstairs, to his artwork. Emily sees she is Louis Marchant’s new assistant. She asks him if he’s alright and he shows her some of his latest work, and tells her he’s lost and he doesn’t know how to help him anymore. Daniel leaves her, so Emily goes to the village and gets something to eat. Sitting by the pool, she scrolls through some of Toby’s socials and finds the bimbo he’s hooking up with, then stalks her account. Emily night gets a little blurry after finishing her wine. She is hot and drunk so she decides to take a dip in the pool to cool down, she strips down to her underwear. She slowly steps out of the pool, when she notices a man standing in front of her and she screams. Louis stand and can’t look away from Emily’s naked body. He goes to the cupboard and throws a towel at her. She tells him Daniel said no one would be home. He asks her if she was hired to seduces him and she says no. He tells her to get clean up and she leaves. Daniel tells him she is there to be his assistant and he is not to sleep with her. Maybe after the summer Daniel may ask her out as she is smart, loves art, is funny and passed his knowledge test easily. Daniel tells Louis to be nice and forget what happened. Emily gives herself a little pep talk before going to bed, she wants to be the best assistant she can be. But is woken by extremely loud music she looks at her phone and sees it’s 2:37 am. She looks out her window and see women everywhere and sees Louis staring right at her. He looks away and motions for someone, they exchange words, the woman moves between his legs next her head starts bobbing up and down. Emily quickly turns to her desk and rips a pieces of paper from a notebook. She lifts the paper for him to see where she has written a number 2 across it for her score for the crappy blow job he’s getting. Anger flashes across his face and he yells then pushes her off him. The next morning she meets Gabriel Louis’ chef and they sit and chat. They hear a throat clear behind them and she turns to see Louis with a different woman from last night. They exchange a few jabs at each other and Emily has to escort the woman out of his house. Emily takes Louis’s coffee to him in his studio, she knocks and walks in. She looks around at the splatters of paint all around, and her eyes are drawn to the canvases hanging around. She trips on something and the coffee lands on Louis. She falls to the floor in a thud, scraping her knees. She tells him she’s sorry and grabs a rag with cold water. He tells her not to touch him as she has done enough and to get out. As she rushes outside Daniel catches her, she explains what happened to him, and he apologies to her. He tells her she should feel safe here. Daniel ask Louis what is going on and Louis tells him she spilled coffee on him. Daniel tells him her knees are bleeding which gains his attention. Louis tells him he only hired Emily because she is beautiful and Daniel tell him he knew he would notice. Daniel tells him to give her a chance, she can do his social media and answer his messages, sort his mail, answer his email, and voicemail. Daniel tell him that Elisabeth has Yves everywhere and his art is selling out. Daniel tells him he needs to get over Elisabeth and move on. Daniel tell him to give Emily a chance, they are a lot alike. Gabriel is helping with her cuts when Daniel comes in and asks her if she is alright, then tells her they need to chat to organize his schedule. She tells Daniel she is utterly mortified by the first twenty four hours and promises nothing will happen again. They discuss Emily’s job so Daniel can head back to London. Hours later Gabriel knocks to tell her he left her dinner in the oven and tells her he’s glad Daniel hired her. After she eats her meal, she goes to check on Louis and finds him on the sofa pleasuring himself. Louis sits on his sofa looking at pictures of his ex-wife, remembering how she smelled, tasted and what she felt like. When his his images of his ex change to of his assistant emerging from the pool. While he thinks of Emily he tells himself he can’t, he needs to stop thinking of her. When he hears the floorboards creak, and he looks and see Emily staring back at him. But he can’t stop, he is so close he needs to finish as she turns and runs out the door. He tucks himself away and runs after her. She tells him she knocked but the music was to loud, she wanted to know if he needed anything. He tells her nothing will happen between them as she isn’t his type and she tell him she doesn’t make a habit of sleeping with washed up artist. He tells her he is a washed up artist he needs to find his muse. She tells him sometimes you need to seek the darkness to find the light. The next day, Louis comes and ask Emily and Gabriel if they do any work. She takes his coffee to him after he storms off, trying to get some action shots for his social accounts. She knocks on his door loud and then opens it and yells hello before she enters. She tells him she wants to get shots of him and he tells her no, she asks him to pretend to paint and he tells her he never does that. So she try to talk to him but he gives short answers. So she picks up her cell and snaps a photo of him sipping his coffee. Emily escort him to her first social event, she’s not sure what to except. When she comes down the stairs he asks her what she is wearing. She tells him it doesn’t matter what she is wearing and she doesn’t dress for him. When they arrive they are greeted by a tan silver man, who assumes Emily is Louis’s date. He tells Louis she is beautiful and Louis tells him hands off the help. A beautiful brunette walks over and links arms with the man. They are introduced to Emily when they tell him she looks delicious. Louis tells them Emily is not part of the scene. Louis pulls Emily into the house and tells her they like to share. She looks confused at him so he explains they are swingers, they like to share. Emily soon realizes they are at a sex party. Louis tells her to wait on the couch for him and goes off. Half an hour later she is looking for him, she finds people have sex and tries to avoid them a few of the older men make passes at her. She makes her way to the garden and turns on her phone light on. When she comes upon legs with pants around the ankles. She finds Louis with Selena the hostess making out in the garden. She quickly turns and runs away, here she was thinking he was in trouble and she worried about him. She finds their driver and gets in the vehicle and the driver ask if she would like to go. She tells him no Louis isn’t done screwing someone. An hour later Louis finds her telling her he’s been looking for her. She tells him that he found her as she returns to her phone texting her girlfriends. She asks him if he is finished so she can plan her night or if he’s taking a break for round two. On the way home he offers her a drink of his vodka but she tells him no she would like to remain disease free as she doesn’t know where his lips have been. He tells her she is the most infuriating women he knows and she tells him the feeling is mutual. The next day Daniel ask her how it went. She tells him it went okay, he tells her there’s no photo of him in the media so she must have kept him out of trouble. She doesn’t know how to tell him and he see a look on her face so he asks her what he did. She tells Daniel he could have told her it was a sex party. Daniel tells her he had no idea. Daniel tells her Louis shouldn’t of left her alone when she tell him what she caught him doing. Daniel tells her she is doing a great job. She tells him that maybe Louis may need to get away from France for a bit because it holds so many memories. He asks her if she’s trying to get a vacation out of him. She tells him that sounds nice but she thinks he needs to get away from all the bad influences. A while later Gabriel runs into the office telling Emily Louis is destroying his studio. She tries to talk to him but he keeps saying he has nothing. She realizes he doesn’t want help and happy wallowing in his misery, so she lets him destroy his studio. Emily falls asleep when she hears a crash downstairs. Louis yells, she hurries downstair and she finds him waving his phone around. She yells at him to stop when he starts hitting the wall. He stumbles onto the sofa and she cleans up his hands, and tells him she wishes she knew how to help him. He tells her she can’t which surprises her she thought he was asleep. He reaches out and touches her check and tells her she is beautiful. He tells her she is sunshine and he is darkness. His fingers dig into her hair and he pulls her close and he kisses her. She pushes him away and tells him it’s late he should get some rest. She quickly heads back to her bedroom. As soon as Louis wakes the next morning he he goes to his studio, bright yellow lips stare back at him, he’s sober, not a drink all day. He thinks of Emily has his creation comes to light. As Elisabeth’s words take over him he falls into darkness again. Emily wakes him telling him he needs to get up, she pulls the covers off him and he’s naked. After his shower he feels lighter. He meets her at the breakfast table looking different. She tells him he owes his staff an apology and maybe a nice bonus. She shows him a video she took of him how he acted towards his staff. He tells her he is embarrassed at how he acted and doesn’t want to act like that anymore. She tells him she would like for him to do something different today, so she suggest they go for a bike ride. He tells her no at first but then agrees. He tells her he feels traps and he feels nothing anymore. They take a break and have a picnic lunch under a big shade tree, then fall asleep. They start packing up and Emily suggest she take his picture in front of the sunflowers and lavender. He tells her no, and she tells him it will improve his image. He finally gives in and loves the photo’s. He takes a selfie of them and post it to her account while she protests. When they get home they both go to their separate rooms. After a shower Louis starts to clean up his studio and it takes him hours. When he returns to the house he hears Emily on the phone with a friends, she tells her friends that he messaged her because he’s seen a photo of her and Louis. He assumes she is talking about her ex-boyfriend. After a shower he falls asleep thinking of a girl with golden hair running through lavender, so when he wakes he rushes to his studio and gets to work. Emily wakes the next morning to find Louis in his studio, she takes him breakfast and finds him painting. As he walks from the other room she tells him to stop, she wants to take his photo as she sees a great opportunity in front of her. Daniel call them to tell them his photo she took yesterday are amazing, with lots of comments. Louis tells Daniel Emily took some more photos this morning. Then Daniel tells them they need to go to a charity gala in Monaco, and he needs someone on his arm someone who will boost his image. As soon as he tells Daniel Elisabeth and Yves will be there Louis mood changes. After he hangs up he pick up on of his paintings and throws it across the room. He starts yelling at Emily asking her if she thought she was his next muse, she wishes she could inspire someone like him. She picks up the paint beside her and throws it at him and it drips down his chest. Emily feels she doesn’t have to put up with this. Louis finds a bottle and this time he can’t stop himself and doesn’t want to. The next morning Gabriel wakes him, brings him his breakfast and they have a talk. Gabriel ask him how he can let one woman control him. Gabriel tells Louis he likes Emily but his heart is set on someone else. He tells Louis he is worried about him, and he tells Gabriel he promises him he going to put the dark days behind. Emily decides she needs to put her feeling aside and do her job. She post the photo she took of Louis and it blows up, the photo has gone viral. Daniel calls her and tells her she is brilliant he’s gotten calls from magazines wanting interviews. Louis comes in the house yelling about his photo. He pushes into her room and she tell him he can’t just barge in, he tells her this is his house. He tells her people have made memes and shared the image. Emily laughs and he tells her a sex toy manufacturer, want to make a dildo of his dick. Emily can’t stop laughing she tells him Daniel said it’s created interest in him. He tells her his dick not his art. He tells her she is frustrating and she ask he isn’t he glad she not his muse. He apologies to her for that and the way he acted. Louis waits for Emily at the bottom of the stairs, he organized hair and makeup for her. Her stylist announces she is ready, Louis takes in how stunning she is, he tells her how beautiful she looks. She takes photos to post of him in front of the limousine. Then he tells her they need a few selfies of them both together. When they arrive she is confused at why they’re at the heliport. He tells her they are taking a helicopter to the event. He doesn’t want to be stuck in a car for two hours she tells him she’s never been in one before. Louis picks her up to put her in, and minutes later they are in the air. Another limousine is waiting for them. They arrive and Emily tells Louis they need a safe word if they want to leave. When they get out the paparazzi are shouting and lights are flashing. Louis hold her hand the whole red carpet not stoping for pictures. Emily takes in all in and thinks it’s spectacular, an unforgettable night. They are enjoying their night until he goes pale and is looking over her shoulder. She turns to see who it is, Elisabeth and Yves walking in, she can’t get his attention until she steps in front of him. he tells her he is fine and needs to use the bathroom. After she realizes he’s been gone to long she goes to look for him, she ask man who leaves the restroom if Louis is in there and he shakes his head. She searches with no luck, then calls and messages him. Emily heads to the garden and can’t find him. A voice behind her stops her in her tacks, asking her if she is Marchant’s new girl as she turns she sees Yves standing behind her. She tells him, he’s the other man, which he asks her if he brainwashed her and she tells him no she formed her own opinion. He tells her she is beautiful, she tries to leave him but he gets in her way. He tell her she won’t find him he disappeared with Elisabeth and they have an understanding, what they want they take. She tells him no and tries to get away, his arm tightens around her. He tells her what Marchant’s is his, and tries to kiss her, she knees him in the balls and he rips her dress and tries to grab her. She races back to the party and stumbles and falls and blood runs down her arms. Louis races down the stairs towards her and asks her if she’s okay. She tells him she wants to leave, she tells him the safe word repeating it several times. Movement behind her catches his eyes and he ask her if he touched her, he lunges out to Yves but Emily pulls him away. She tells him she would never touch him and tells him she wants to go repeating the safe word. Louis reaches out and pulls her next to him and ask for a back exit. They climb in the limousine and he holds her in his lap as tears fall down her cheeks. He apologies for leaving her alone. She tries to explain to him what happened. He tells her she doesn’t have to explain herself. But she tells him she told him no and she wasn’t interested. He tells her is wasn’t her fault he pulls her close and hold her tight until they get home. He tells her he can run her a bath, but she tell him she’d like a shower then she’s going to bed. He tells her okay he’s just down the hall. Louis calls Daniel and tells him what happened and he tells Louis that he beefs up security, they don’t attend events with Yves is present and hire her a body guard. But he tells Louis that his exhibition needs to be his best work, Yves is trying to be him and wants what he has. Emily has a nightmare of her attack but she han’t had one in years. She makes her way downstairs looking for a drink. When she gets to the living room she see a male and screams and falls to the floor, pulling her knees up to her chest. Louis wraps himself around her telling her she is safe. He tells her he is sorry he scared her. After she calms down she tells him she couldn’t sleep, he tells her he couldn’t either. He asks her if she wants anything to eat and she tells him a grilled cheese, so he makes her one.

“You’re my muse, Emily”

Louis, a successful artist, has found himself in a dark hole after a shocking heartbreak. He turns to alcohol to numb the pain. Not being able to see color in life anymore he basically gives up and sees everything as dark.
Emily, dealing with her own heartbreak is just trying to find her way. After a drunken night with friends, she applies for an assistant position to an artist who turns out to be no other than Louis Marchant.

Okay… In the beginning it was hard to love Louis he was a stubborn jerk and refused help from everyone. My heart went out for Emily with all his crap she had to deal with. But, after all the pain, and suffering these two went through it really is a love story and finding yourself again.

Thank you to The Smuthood and the Author, JA Low, for this ARC. My review is honest and would be the same had I purchased this book myself.

Emily Chapman is struggling to find herself after a devastating heartbreak, and so after a night of wine she applies for any job that is remotely related to her degree in Art History. Soon Emily finds herself as the assistant of Louis Marchant.

Louis Marchant is lost within his own darkness of heartbreak. Not only has his wife broken his heart but he has lost his muse and no longer sees life in color.

I’m gonna have to say it, Louis is a pretty hard “hero” to love or get behind in the beginning. He is the definition of the “Anti - hero” with his darkness being so dark, he threatens to drag everyone else down with him. JA Low wasn’t playing around when she aptly named the book after him being an arrogant artist and man.

Under all of that arrogance of Louis and insecurity of Emily, is a story of self discovery, healing, and love.

Never have I ever met a more heinous hero!!! This book is brilliant.

There are so many adjectives to describe one heartbroken and betrayed Louis. From an apparent male-skank, through to rude, vulgar and disgusting, he was such a completely loathsome creature that even his brother had almost given up on him. After walking in on his wife and Yves, an artist he’d rescued off the streets and had been mentoring, Louis lost the colour and inspiration in his life, drowning in women, disgusting behaviour and alcohol. Watching blurry eyed, while Yves and his ex-wife continued on to take the art world by storm.

As a last ditch attempt to get him to tidy up his life and reputation, his brother Daniel hired him an assistant to help him organise and paint a collection for one exhibition, one last chance to show the world that he is not the sum of what his ex-wife had created, but an artist who is still every bit as celebrated and renowned as he was.

Emily is at a crossroads in her life. Just when she thought her boyfriend of five years was about to propose, he instead drops her with a bomb that he wants a temporary break to explore his affair with an overseas colleague while she lifts her game and elevates her potential in life thus making herself worthy of consideration as his wife. An evening of drinking with her girls results in the successful application to assist an artist in France while they prepare for an exhibition.

JA Low is an artist with words. She created a picture of two betrayed people, and set them amongst a story that is everything from witty and comedic through passionate to sombre and heart-breaking. Just awesome. How she wrote a broken Louis, who was a complete and utter creature to all around him, and rehabilitated him to be even more of his former self, was a beautiful journey. Same for Emily, as we discover her own difficult background and life experiences. I loved her. She was such a strong young lady in spite of everything, and, she took every challenge from the offensive Louis and ramped it up a notch, much to his surprise and anger!!!!! Emily absolutely took no prisoners.

It looked like Louis was going to succeed, and Emily was rediscovering gifts that she’d lost over the last five years, until the former student who got his wife, sets his sights the woman who is with him now. And it seems he’s not liking no for an answer.

This book ticks so many boxes, that it’s easy to highly recommend to those who like hot French artists, passion, wit and comedy mixed in with a touch of suspense coloured with Karma biting the deserving on the ar$e!! I loved it. 5 Colourful Stars.

Love In Colour would have to be one of my favourite books from JA Low to date. Louis and Emily's story is full of dark moments that will lead into bursts of colour. Two people who have been drawn into the black will need to see the other for what they are, a kaleidoscope of colours that will bring them into the light. Their relationship is fiery, at times the words spoken are hurtful that cut deep, but it is the healing that they possess for each other that will turn the shades of grey surrounding them into a magical colour filled sunrise. The story will take you on a journey filled with downturns, revelations, expectations and a love so raw and pure. Their story is emotional, action packed, sexy, flirty and oh so steamy. If you want a book that will take you from the darkest moments and bring you to a blinding light that will fill your heart then Love In Colour is a must read.

Wow what can I say beautiful, powerful, loving, sweet, heartbreaking and just damn well brilliant. Louis a French artist has lost his way why and how you need to read to find out.

His brother Daniel hired him an assistant Emily and it's just what she needs after her heartbreak.

I don't want to give anything away but there is love, tears, pain, heartache, friendship and plenty of hotness again J.A. Low has done it again

Love in Colour is one hell of a read.

Louis will make you so frustrated with his egotistical, self-centred way but Emily is exactly the right kind of strong and sassy woman, ready to put him in his place..... after all, she's his assistant.

Great characters with so much to add to this fabulous story. Loved every word of it and devoured the story in one sitting.

I'm hoping there will be more from J.A. Low in this series.

I loved Love in Colour. It was funny, it was heartbreaking, shocking and everything in between.
Louis and Emily are perfect, even when Louis does stupid things....hello, pool party. Emily puts his cocktail French ass in place when needed and Louis brings Emily to life n a way she never imagined.

One of my favorite by this author - read on KU

I enjoyed this book and the characters.

Ms. Low doesn't usually completely fleshed out characters. That remains true here but maybe she gets deeper into them in this book.

The book is quite predictable and yet again both characters have cheaters in their past. I would say that is a spoiler but I think I've read 10 or 11 books by this author and almost all of them at least one person had a cheating ex.

Her grammatical issues continue. Misuse of pronouns. An easy way to determine if you need me or I is to remove the other person from the sentence. It's rare to see "he gave the book to I," but a lot of people, including this author will write or say "he gave the book to Louis and I." Obviously both should end with "me." There are some missing words. I would gladly volunteer to be a beta reader to cut down on all these errors. And she is from Australia and people from there and England don't treat collective nouns as singular so expect things like "the team were." There are a lot of places where she write things differently than we would in America. She uses the word "annunciates" instead of "enunciates." The former is an archaic word but it has nothing to do with speaking clearly.

What I did like was the story was pretty straight forward. There wasn't too much fighting of feelings internally. As most her books do, they have a small break. It's more of a time out. I didn't like the reason why. I did like the story and I enjoyed the art aspect. I'm not a gallery worthy painter but I have been paid to paint quite a few murals, so I could relate to their creative sides.

I do like this author, I just wish she would get a better editor and beta team and would back off everyone having a cheating and/or too physical ex. (Grabbing wrists, wrapping their hands around their throats, etc.) And not have everyone's ex come to try to get them back. Her stories are usually fun. All the characters end up having a great group of supportive friends. That really adds to the enjoyment.

Emily is unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend when she thinks he is going to propose. She decides to take a job in France working as an assistant to a reclusive artist, Louis Marchant. They are enemies nearly from the beginning, even though there is an undercurrent of tension there. Louis starts to see Emily as more as she pushes him out of his comfort zone. She makes him go for bike rides and out into the world, plus he loves the way that she verbally spars with him and is determined to do her job even though he makes it INCREDIBLY difficult. Eventually they give and start a relationship. But there are forces determined to ruin them at all costs. Will they be able to weather the storm and find their way forward into forever?

I loved both Louis and Emily. Louis is tortured, feeling that life is over because his muse is no more. He doesn’t think that he’ll be able to paint anymore without his ex-wife as his muse, so he’s struggling when he first meets Emily. But she pulls him into her sunshine with her positivity and he starts to see that he has talent regardless of the muse, but she really does help him move forward. And Emily is so funny with Louis – fighting back against him verbally when he’s being the biggest pain in the ass in the world. It’s like she knows he’s lashing out because she’s there and he doesn’t really mean the awful things he says to her sometimes (other times she is right to be hurt by the things he says to her). And I especially like that after a traumatic experience she takes the time to get herself right so that she can be what he needs going forward. She didn’t explain it well to him, but I’m glad they both gave each other space to grow even though they are adults.

love in colour! 🌈

Arrogant Artist
JA Low
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ok, so I wasn’t sure about this story in the beginning, artist and Billionaire, I just couldn’t see it! But push in I did and I’m so glad I did. While the main character Louis Marchant was a horrible man, the more read his story the more I came around. While he may have been the main character, I think this title should go to Emily Chapman, she was kick as, bossy I’m taking no crap type woman. I really loved her, and her whipping the messed up Louis in to shape.

Both Louis and Emily have hit rock bottom, thanks to their horrible exes, but while Louis wallows in his self pity creating dark demon like art, Emily uses it as a stepping stone to move away, taking a job as Louis ‘ assistant. This wasn’t an easy transition, but it wasn’t without its humour. A serious painter like Louis doesn’t play games and doesn’t do being bossed around but he met his match with Emily. She’s got a job to do and she intends to do it, much to Louis’ disgust. What she doesn’t see is his reaction to her. He might play the hate card, but his body says something very different.

As the pair set on a new path of rediscovery, quickly they realise that the muse ,Luis was missing is now right in front of him. Emily is sunflowers 🌻 and sunshine ☀️, their relationship quickly moves from boss/ assistant to lover, comfort, colour, the things Louis has been missing! Just as life is perfect for this duo, it all comes crashing down again when his past creates drama, leaving a devastated Emily in its path... but sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to see what’s grey..... sometimes that grey can turn to red, yellow and eventually love in colour!

I don’t know if I can finish this one at 82%.

Suddenly Emily has turned into a fucking idiot.
One thing I already didn’t like about this book was the author keeps introducing new parts into the back story of these characters that were not brought up until it was convenient for her to trigger drama. And it’s not a natural progression in the story nor does it make it more interesting. For me, it does the opposite where I’m like WTH!? Where did this come from and why wasn’t it mentioned before? It’s almost like the author forgot what she was writing and suddenly wanted major drama to throw in so decided to just dump everything possible except vampires and werewolves at this point. It’s messy and just makes this story seem so immature.

Now with Emily blaming everything on Louis!! What the fuck!!!!! I don’t know if I even care to finish this. If Louis is the one to have to chase her then Emily should just die or be alone. She does NOT deserve Louis. She wasn’t raped by Yves, what happened to the relieved girl who wanted to fuck Louis immediately after getting the creepy letter (which I also thought was weird).

And to think this book started off so well and was quite interesting and pretty well written, minus a few typos. We get to like 60% or so and the book starts having these random bits put in that never came up before and ugh! The author ruined a good book.

***update, read the next chapter (call it morbid curiosity assuming it can’t get worse). Oh but it can!!! Now Emily is blaming her best friends for Yves drugging her and being raped back in high school. Wtf!?!? Drop this bitch. I didn’t read anything about them forcing her to keep drinking all night. Emily is a piece of trash.

Darkly brooding artist finds his light in the darkness

Really sweet story about a damaged and broken artist who needs to find his light again. We’ve already met Louis Marchant’s brother Daniel in some of the other book series and Louis is mentioned as being a famous artist but this is the story of how he loses everything he thought once needed at the hands of his ex-wife.

His downward spiral after her affair with his protege sends him to rock bottom. He’s losing his fans, his notoriety and his life… until his family intervenes and hires him a new assistant to help him get his life back in order.

Of course, it’s not going to be easy and his reluctance and arrogance almost has Emily throwing in the towel, but she sees him. She sees the man she knows he can be. She sees the brilliant artist behind the darkly brooding persona he’s fallen into. Her persistence slowly pays off as she pulls him into the light and back into his passion for creating art.

But as this is romantic fiction, we know there’s going to be some major bumps and this story hits you with all the feels. That old adage of ‘just when you thought everything was going well…. “. Yep, be ready to have your heart ripped out!

You go from being really annoyed at arrogant, angry Louis to absolutely falling in love with the kind, sweet, funny, caring person that he becomes with Emily’s love to guide him.

Really enjoyed this book. Wonder if Daniel or Matthieu will get their own stories too? I sure hope so.
