Gaby McCray is capable of the most terrible atrocities, and yet she’s a gentle, loving mother and a practising psychologist too. How can she be all these things? " You're a Behemoth," the director of Ethos tells her. 'A sleeping beast... In other words, a psychopath who can switch their mania off and on at will. But you're not alone, and one day, they'll come for you - all the other Behemoth...' Gaby is horrified - and yet also empowered. She has a child to protect now, so perhaps it's good she's a beast. How else could she have fought off the other beasts she's come across in the power-hungry organisation her father set up? But even as she celebrates the modicum of power being a psychopath gives her, she knows her luck can't hold, and when they come looking for her, demanding their pound of flesh, she decides to fight. A race across Paris to evade an enemy she can't decide whether to hate or love brings her close to the truth, but it's in the last place Gaby ever thinks to look that the final revelation awaits her. It takes a beast to tame a beast, they say. For Gaby the beasts are both within and without, and unless she tames all of them, they'll consume not only her but everyone she holds dear. The Behemoth is the final book in the Mind Games series.
Debrah Martin writes adult fiction as Debrah Martin/ D.B. Martin and a Young Adult teen detective series under the pen name Lily Stuart. Debrah’s novels examine real people in real – but unexpected – situations, and the way their life transforms because of them. Her work has been described variously as intriguing, poignant, irreverent, quirky and page-turning.
Gaby knows what she is. Knowing doesn’t make it easier. She is a good mother but being a Behemoth, makes life dangerous. Loved the book, don’t miss out.
This is the much awaited second book in the Mind Games series and it doesn't disappoint, it is a long book but well worth sticking it out. Dr Gaby McCray is a psychoanalyst working for Ethos, a psychological treatment centre....she is also a psychopath. Gaby has a daughter but only she knows the identity of the father. Having stopped taking her medication, Gaby has recurring flashbacks to her childhood, these heavily involve her father , her stepmother and a fifteen year odd pregnant girl....did Gaby kill her father ? It is very difficult to review this book without giving the plot away but the story involves psychopaths, sociopaths and the battle to be head of Chiaroscuro. What is Chiaroscuro, who were the contenders and who had to die for this to happen ? Where did Alexander fit into this and why was there an inexplicable magnetism and love hate relationship between Gaby and him. Is Gaby's step mother Romain as sweet as she has always seemed or did she have some sinister hold over Gaby ?.......is Gaby's daughter safe ? All I can say is that this story is an emotional and disturbing roller coaster, the characters each have their own agenda, I was gripped until the last page and I had no idea how the story would unfold. Debrah Martin's knowledge of the psychological mind is mind blowing as are her descriptive power . if you like reading books that are a bit different and a little out of your comfort zone then this could be the book for you. I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an hones review.
Mind Games: The Behemoth is definitely titled appropriately. This book really does mess with your head! It’s get a bit deep at times because the psychology is extremely important to the story, but it is explained well and in a way that most can understand. It’s an exciting ride following Dr. Gaby McCray as she works to regain her childhood memories that have been twisted, medically manipulated and wrong more than once. Gaby is an employee of Ethos, a new mother and possibly a psychopath. She struggles to get a grip on the past. She eventually learns that those she’s trusted have been less than honest, and those she’s doubted are actually allies, maybe… You will actually cheer on the enemies and denounce the good guys while reading this book, because it so twisted and it’s difficult to get a grip on who is friend and who is foe. When I read a book, I tend to put myself in the shoes of the main character. If you read like I do, this story will challenge you intellectually and morally. It was a great read and I look forward to reading more from D.B. Martin! I received this e-book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This is going to sound crazy, but this book was so good, I had to stop reading before the end, and I got closer and closer to the end, I could tell there probably wasn't going to be another one, so I actually put off reading the final 30-45 pages for a couple months. I've had such a horrible time with the pandemic that I've not wanted good things to end. This sounds awful, but I just didn't want the story to end. I've lived with and LOVED these characters, and I wasn't ready to say goodbye to them. Only a true book need would understand, but I can't recommend this book enough! I love this author's style. I love the storyline, it was really a great follow up to the first book. I had a lot of it wrong, which I love. When you can shock me, you're really good. I usually leave a book saying I could write it. The really good ones, which I'm seeing more and more of, are shockers!! Thanks for letting me live with these guys a while!
I received this book as a gift and am offering my (very delayed but totally honest) opinion.
This is a great continuation of Mind Games: Memento Mori. In book 1, Gaby, a psychologist finds herself working for Ethos. While working there, she begins to unravel her past and what happened to her father. While trying to help clients with their ethical dilemmas, she is drawn into the game which involves a secret society of killers. In Behemoth, Gaby is now deeply entrenched in the society, being called to repay a debt. As she tries to keep herself together, more and more of her past comes seeping out, leaving the reader wanting more. Is she a psychopath in hiding? You can read this alone but reading the first book gives you more of the back story. I love them both.
I really enjoyed this psychological thriller book. I have to admit I liked it better than the previous book, Mind Games Memento Mori, just because in my opinion it seemed like there was a lot more action in this book. As soon as I finished the previous book I cracked open this book! I had to find out if she would be able to decipher if her dreams and fuzzy memories were real or memories planted. I thought the characters were great and the concept of the story was great. Definitely FIVE THUMBS UP 👍🏼 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 🤓❤️📚❣️❣️

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
This is a dark deep psychological thriller. Although this can be read as a standalone, strongly suggest reading book 1 first to get a better understanding of the characters and story line. Contains twist and turns, suspense and even romance. The story will keep you guessing as to what are lies and what are truths. What makes a psychopath? Is Gaby one? Can a person's psychopathic tendencies be turned off and on? Gaby wants to find answers. She discovers a secret organization. Who started it? Was her father, a renown psychologist, the founder? What is the purpose of this organization? How are the members selected? She is on a journey of discovery but since she was on a mind altering drug for many years, her memories are awakening. Can she trust them or are they distorting the truth? Who can she trust? This is a book that will keep you reading because you will want the answers yourself. You think you have it figured out then a new twist surfaces. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary honest review.
