Oxfordshire police and ruthless criminals are chasing the same quarry. Who will get there first?
When a semi-retired home tutor is found killed in her home, the obvious suspects are two teenage lads encountered fleeing the scene.
After the boys give the police the run around and disappear, the investigation, led by uncompromising DI Tanya Miller, focuses on the victim.
There is considerable surprise when forensics turn up traces of cocaine at the murdered woman’s home. Is it possible that a respected local teacher, getting on in her years, could be involved in drugs?
Miller’s investigation hits a brick wall and her woes are exacerbated when a detective constable is seriously injured by a freak accident at a neighbouring property.
At the time when Miller needed to pull the team together, it seems to be falling into further disarray.
Finding the boys will be crucial to solving the case. But the police are not the only ones looking for them.
A retired teacher bleeds to death in her back yard and for DI Tanya Miller, the investigation point to two teenagers. But all is not as it seems and the trail takes some surprising twists. Blurred Lines is the fifth in the DI Tanya Miller series and what a ride it is! Murder, drugs revenge and tragedy make this a gripping read. Dickson is a skilled writer who knows how to pull the reader in and engage them with lively characters and perplexing crimes. Highly recommend!
Not much I could say that I haven't already said about this series. I simply like reading it, and I love the fact that the author always has a new book out whenever I go on vacation. Perfect holiday read.
A pair of young tearaways get themselves far too deeply involved with a drugs gang. Detective Miller tries to pick up the pieces. A stylish crime mystery with some nice little twists.
Carol Barker, a retired schoolteacher, bleeds to death at the foot of her garden. DI Tanya Miller’s investigation exposes teenage county lines drug couriers and their disgruntled boss, but the murder of Carol Barker makes little sense or fit within the criminal’s operation. As the crime boss attempts to recover his losses, a teenager disappears and the hoods kidnap Carl and his sister. DI Miller works to unravel if these connections relate to the murder. I enjoyed the narrative switching between the police investigation and the exploits of the teenage Carl, and I sensed I was one step of DI Tanya Miller. But I wondered at their competence as they missed some opportunities and clues at the crime scene. This was because of the animosity among some detectives working on the case and was a distraction to DI Tanya Miller and also, for me, to the main plot. The exposure of some activity nearby to the murder scene changed the direction of the investigation. This threw my understanding of the plot out of kilter as I had to readjust my focus on an unexpected scenario. This made me wonder about how many nutcases are in society waiting their chance to act out some revenge. At times, I felt the frustrations of DI Miller as her boss pressurised her for results and she struggled to keep her team motivated after the circumstances of a tragic event. I just wanted to get on with the investigation and felt that the personal difficulties secondary to finding the culprit. Lots of suspense with rising tension towards the end, and a pleasant addition in the DI Tanya Miller series.
Ach! Is the the end of the Tales if DI Tanya Miller?
A lonely widow bleeds to death in her own backyard; one of DI Miller’s inspectors is injured and later succumbs to the injuries; and her nemesis, DI Brian (what’s his last name? Finch?) returns from Brighton to bedevil her life.
Sad to bid farewell to this prickly, flawed woman who was becoming humanized - but she’s only signed up to spend 12 months away so there’s hope for more Oxford doings, and to see if she ever makes her peace with her sister.
I can’t see myself “making peace” with my mother, and how others handle family dysfunction is a situation that draws me in.
This is a cracking tale featuring DI Tanya Miller at her very best. A retired school teacher is found dead in the back garden of her house, which itself holds a sinister secret. Two teenagers seem to be involved somehow, but can they be to blame?
Miller has to use all of her detecting skills to get to the bottom of this one - and unfortunately, she has to deal with some tragedy along the way.
What a super read! I found this DI Tanya Miller mystery totally absorbing.
I always enjoy British detective stories as they truly perform the roles of a detective team. The interplay between each member is very realistic. The climax of the case came as a total surprise - give me more.
