Maddigan Stuart had never felt so nervous as when she returned home to Willow Creek. She knew she was doing the right thing, but it was the most difficult decision she had ever made. Two years earlier her husband, Brian, had asked for a divorce on the same day she had found out she was expecting their child. Hurt and angry, she had kept that information to herself and moved to Arizona to be near her sister. Now she is back to right the wrong and to introduce her daughter to Brian.Brian was shocked to discover that he is a father. What did he know about raising a child? But after meeting his daughter, he wanted to be part of her life. The easiest thing to do would be to get back together with Maddie so they could be a family, yet the things that had separated them initially were still there, particularly her Christian beliefs. To complicate things further, his best friend, Jackson Barrett, had known all along about the baby, and although he had encouraged her to be honest with Brian, he had also fallen for Maddie. Maddie had never considered remarriage. Her life was focused on her daughter and what was best for her. Now her ex-husband wants to be back in her life and Jackson has shown an interest that she had not suspected. Did God have different plans for her life than she had thought? As a fire sweeps through the land surrounding Willow Creek, Maddie realizes she may lose them both. Could God save them and give her a second chance?
Courtney Lyman lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband, their three children, and two cats. She is the author of the KW Consulting series, the Holliday Hotel series, as well as a few Christmas novellas. She stays busy with her family's activities, her ministries at church, and in whatever time is left, knitting, singing, and playing games.
This was good book, and you don't need to read the whole series, or read the books in order. This is the only one in the series I read, and don't feel like I missed anything. I liked the story, and loved the faith element woven all the way through, though I'll admit to be greatly disappointed in the ending. Which, while it's a happily ever after, I'd have preferred Maddie get back with her ex. Both Maddy and Brian had a lot of growing up to do, and Brian did need to accept Jesus, which he did. I think the story would have had more depth if they had been able to work through all of their differences, which could have made their relationship stronger and better than ever, since they could now do that with Christ at the center. So, in a way, I feel deprived of seeing how God really can take something as devastating as a divorce and bring those two people back together, stronger and better than before. I've seen it happen in real life, and would have liked to have had it happen in this book. Still, it's a good book, and has some great parts in it.
Another fantastic Christian romance by Courtney Lyman. I always love going back to Carol's bed and breakfast, I can imagine it all clearly in my mind. One of the things I enjoy about the Holliday Hotel series, is that although all the characters might not be likeable they are all believable and you find yourself immersed in their story.
