♥♥ Will saving his band mean breaking her heart? ♥♥ Nikki Benson is one of LA's best drummers.
Rock scion Dion Davis, the lead singer for the breakout band Rogue Nation, is her stepbrother from hell.
When Nikki is asked to join Rogue Nation to save their faltering tour, it's her dream come true. But drumming for the band means being in close proximity to Dion. And this stepbrother from hell is the boy she's crushed on since she was twelve.
For years, they've ignored the explosive chemistry building between them. But living in the tight confines of a tour bus, those sparks will be hard to ignore. And falling in love is the last thing these fledgeling bandmates need right now.
Will saving his band mean breaking her heart?
Heartbreak Beat is the first book in the LA Rock Star Romance series. Set in the glam and gritty Los Angeles rock scene, the series is filled with swoon-worthy men and badass women, all chasing their dreams in Hollywood's cut-throat music industry.
Are you ready to fall in love with an LA Rock Star?
Heartbreak Beat by new to me, (but not anymore ♡) author Elle Greco gave me a rockstar romance that checked off all the reasons why this genre of contemporary romance is my favorite of all.
The first few pages drew me right in with a bit of sadness, a gorgeous, bad boy front man, with some alpha-hole tendencies and a crazy hot scene with his beautiful, slightly in over her head, younger stepsister. I woke up and reached right over to continue on with this story for a while before I moved on with the rest of my day! Soooo goooood I just couldn't resist jumping back in for more of these two in whatever sizzling situation they were heading for next!
There is a fun, messy mix of stepsisters and stepbrothers in this blended musical family, who's complicated interactions made for a very unputdownable story. Their dad/stepfather, retired lead singer of his own legendary rock band, manages his 3 sons' up and coming band, Rogue Nation.
Now, thanks to dear old dad stirring the pot, they're all set to tour together, the girls opening for the guys, along with one of the best parts of this story- the youngest sister, Nikki, is a talented kick-@ss drummer in her own band, with an independent streak a mile wide and enough sass to keep Dion, her step brother and secret crush, from breaking her heart. She was an amazing leading lady and I adored her spirited personality.
Colorful family members adding just enough angsty drama to entertain without killing your blood pressure, sexual tension you could feel in your bones and humorous, playful antics riding along on that tour bus with them all. Secondary characters with hearts of gold or agendas of their own with a dash of suspense and whole lot of steamy, stolen moments.
Rolling all of these pieces together brought me to the sweet, rewarding ending which I loved, but also drops intriguing hints of where this family dynamic will lead to next.
I'll be clicking the next book in this series in just a few....Elle Greco has a new fan today- me!
right, so dion was an absolute cunt and this was deeefinitely messy and dysfunctional but i finished it in a day so. very rock and roll i guess! could use another round of editing but parts of it were really well written
This is a brilliant start to this series and one that I hope keeps building and building. I totally loved, the love, hate relationship that Dion and Nikki had. I also loved how their love just grew stronger and they just couldn't fight it anymore. I love a bold strong woman that stand up to an arsehole rockstar. Especially when she is just as talented as he is.
Bring on the rest of the series. I really can't wait.
If there was ever a case of wanting the 1/2 star rating, this is one for me.
The actual story was good. It was intriguing, I was hooked. I couldn’t put it down. There was great chemistry between Dion and Nikki. The author wasn’t afraid to make the character real step-siblings. Their parents had been married for 5+ years, and they’d been a “family” since Nikki was 12. I was never really sure what age Dion was, but it was established that he was older than Nikki, so I was guessing he was around 5 years older. Anyway, there was a lot of resentment of Nikki and her sisters and mom for Dion and his brothers. They really didn’t like Nikki & her sisters and treated them like crap.
I enjoyed that Nikki was basically recruited to become the drummer for Rogue Nation, Dion’s band, after his brother died, just before they were set to go on tour. She didn’t get picked because she was his step-sister, but because a) she was talented and b) because she knew the music. And I have to say, she wasn’t picked by the band…she was picked by the record label. And as you can imagine, Dion and Rafe weren’t thrilled that they were going to be stuck with her. I did love Nikki and her sisters on tour with Rogue Nation and finding their own success with their band Satan’s Sisters.
Even with all that good, there were issues with the story. The book could have used some editing. There were times that I had to read some sentences multiple times to make sure I understood what was being said because either a word was missing or there was a double word. It wasn’t enough to really make me give up, but it did tend to pull me out of the story while reading. The other issue I had was regarding the stalker storyline. I actually like it, it was a nice twist. I was able to figure it out after the first threat/note happened but my issue was that Nikki persisted in believing Dion was behind the notes/threats. There were a few times in the book, were Nikki’s sisters were arguing how it couldn’t be Dion and he wouldn’t do that. They had some pretty good arguments, and Nikki started to see their way of thinking…until Dion walked in. Then everyone conveniently forgot about the recent arguments about how it couldn’t be him and they all accused him of sending the notes. My other issue with this is that if she was so sure that Dion was threatening her, why was she still hopping into bed with him!? I just didn’t get the logic there.
Overall, I did enjoy this story but wish that it had a little more editing done to it.
At age 8 I asked The Mommy if I could get a spiral perm, so my hair was like Jon Bon Jovi’s (or Job Jobby as my Papa called him).
At age 11 I asked The Mommy to take me to see Mötley Crüe play at Edinburgh Castle – she refused!
At age 13 I asked The Mommy for drum lessons. The lessons were short lived – I haven’t got any sense of rhythm.
I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, I’ve been a frustrated Rockstar from an early age... *snorts*
So, wanna guess what one of this bookdragon’s favourite tropes to read is? Well, duh, of course it’s rock romance. And, let me tell you, HB is a smorgasbord of trope-a-licious delights – rock romance, enemies to lovers and stepbrother romance... *nods* Right??!! Prepare for your mind to be blown!!!
I wanna be Nikki Benson, lol. Drumming and music flows through her veins! I could literally feel the bass from the drums echoing through my body in the scenes where Nikki is playing.
Nikki and her sisters’ upbringing is best described as unconventional. (I’ll let her tell you about it herself though.) The one constant in her life has always been music so the chance to tour with her stepbrother’s band is a golden opportunity. The only stumbling block – the main man himself, Dion...
Frontman Dion (descended from rock royalty, no less) is a word that I can’t use in a review *smirks*. But he’s the best kind of BBF. Let’s be honest here *shrugs*, he’s s-e-x on a stick. You know the kind I mean? You want to simultaneously slap him and climb him like a tree *sighs*.
Highlighting the perils of stardom with proof that all that glitters ain’t gold – this story had me hooked from the beginning; the angst, the chemistry, the music, the frustration, the teasing *winks*, the whole ‘will they/won’t they’ and then the added suspense element! Aargh!
My first Elle Greco read and... It. Was. Epic!
All my fellow rock romance lovers are in for a treat.
I’m sure I read that Book Two is due out soon (I hope I didn’t imagine that as patience is not a virtue I possess, lol) where, fingers crossed, the tour continues.
Hmmm! Truthfully I'm not sure what I think about this book, I thought it was a great story line, But I felt like there could have been more to it.
But let's just make a deal to stay far away from our stepbrothers. They are trouble with a capital T," Jett warned. "Agreed. We don't need no stinking boys anyway," I laughed. "Speak for yourselves," Presley sighed. "It's been so long for me, I think I'm falling in love with my vibrator."
Did you forget something?" he asked. I noticed he was eyeing my chest. "Like what?" He reached around behind the door and pulled out my bra. It dangled from two fingers. I moved to snatch it but he yanked it away, and tucked it behind his back. I held out my hand. "Come on. Give it." He tossed it behind him and it landed on the bed. "Go get it," he challenged me.
I read this years ago when originally published titled Forbidden Beat but I have to look for my original review because I wonder if the same glaring mistake is in that book “Nikki,” I corrected him. “As in Sixx.” Yes, thanks to my wayward parents, I was named after the drummer of Mötley Crüe.
Someone should have told the author that Tommy Lee is Motley's drummer. You named your character after the bassist
Sorry but that's a mistake that shouldn't have happened.

Dion and Nikki have a great step- sibling romance full of all the angst and tension ready to explode. Dion was a difficult character for me to fall for as he was so bitter but once I was hooked there was no turning back. I loved how strong NIkki was and loved her independence. This book was full of all the push and pulls and was a great escape.
Heartbreak Beat by Elle Greco is an enemies-to-lovers stepbrother rock star romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Ramona Master. This is the first book in the LA Rock Star Romance Series.
This is the first book of Elle's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The chemistry between Nikki and Dion was off the charts!
I can't wait to read the next book in the series Love Song so I can get Jett and Rafe's story.
Ramona did an amazing job on the narration. She really knows how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like enemies-to-lovers romance, stepbrother romances, rock star romances or contemporary romance.
Dion, the H in this book is not a likable hero. The way he treated Nikki was abysmal. She normally shouldn’t have touched him with a ten foot pole. I didn’t enjoy the story at all.
This book makes me cringe and I almost gave up because of the editing issues. I really got frustrated with: sentences that had the words in the wrong order, made up words with no clue to the exact meaning, and misspelled or completely inappropriate words.
I received a copy for an honest opinion. So here goes...As a freebie, I can grit my teeth on the several pages of editing error notes, but if your paying for it...yikes. The storyline is decent. Predictable, but decent.
This is a well written rock star/ step sibling romance. Nikki and her sisters (Jett and Presley) first met their stepbrothers when Nikki was 12 years old. She immediately had a huge crush on Dion, who at 16 years old, was 4 years older than her. Dion’s Father, Vince, is Rock Royalty and her mother Pamela is the ultimate groupie. They are everything you think the rock and roll lifestyle would be with living a life growing up on tours and around bands. Dion, Kyle and Rafe started a band called Rogue Nation and Nikki and her sisters have their own band Satan Sisters. After Kyle’s death, Nikki is employed by the label to take over the drummer spot in the Rogue Nation Tour, much to her stepbrothers’ chagrin. Nikki is chosen because of her talent not connections, and I like that the Author has given equal musical talent footing to all of the siblings. It’s not difficult to understand Nikki’s crush on Dion. He literally oozes the bad boy charisma of a good looking rock god. Each of the characters are well developed, including the background characters. It’s the first time I’ve read this Author, but as I can’t wait to read the rest of the series, won’t be the last. Thank you to the Author, Publisher & BookSirens for the complimentary digital arc. I’m voluntarily reviewing a complimentary eARC and my review is unbiased and honest.
Welcome to the fascinatingly dysfunctional world of Rock and Roll in LA. Nikki Benson and her sisters have grown up in and around the music industry. It's no surprise that they created a band, Satan's Sisters, to feature Jett's songwriting, Presley's pipes, and Nikki's incredible percussion skills. When their stepbrother, Kyle, dies of an overdose, their stepbrothers' band, Rogue Nation, is in need of a replacement drummer to go on tour. Nikki steps in, despite her own reservations and the stonewalling of her remaining stepbrothers, Dion and Rafe Davis. It doesn't help that the last place on earth she wants to be is on the bunk above Dion, who she has had a massive crush on since she met him, while he beds groupie after groupie. But is Dion really oblivious towards Nikki or is this a case of the playground bully pulling the pigtails of the girl he secretly likes? For sure it makes for a very interesting tour!
Elle Greco's writing is quick witted and engaging, taking you right into the story and the life (OK, super dysfunctional life) of these musicians, often times with some well placed and well done humor. This being the first in the series, I can't wait to see where the Benson sisters and the Davis brothers go from here.
Heartbreak Beat is the first book in the LA Rock Star Romance series. It was a great way to kick off the series. I actually have read the fourth book and enjoyed it so much I wanted to read the entire series. Nikki Benson and Dion Davis are stepsiblings. Pamela, Nikki’s mom, was not the best mom or person for that matter. At least Nikki and her sisters were taken care of when she married Vince Davis, a famous rockstar. Dion’s band Rogue Nation is going on tour, but his broker was the drummer and he died recently. So, the label company asks Nikki to join the band as the drummer. She is in the band Satan’s Sisters with her sisters and insists that their band be added to the tour as openers for Rogue Nation. But the Davis boys did all they could to have the Benson girls removed from the tour. The spark between Nikki and Dion could be felt instantly. Their love/hate relationship and witty banter keep the book interesting and funny. It was hard not to like the Benson women and in the beginning, I did not care for the Davis boys because they were so horrible to the girls. Dion seemed so cold-hearted and a playboy but towards the end, he finally opens and becomes more likable. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
Not quite sure what to make of this book. There were parts that were engaging and well written with realistic situations and some that were bizarre. To be honest I was curious because the cover is the exact same model as one of my favorite series by Lara Ward Cosio - who has a band named Rogue. Or one edition of it has the same model.... Coincidental? Perhaps... The stories were nothing a like, so there is that ... but begs to wonder. And they really need to use different stock images, or at least check before publishing... Or was that an intentional marketing effort to get those readers to read this? Not saying it's so, just seems odd.
On the plot of this book though ... There were parts that were interesting but the intermingled dysfunctional family was a weird twist on the taboo step brother with a side of step father-daughter thing I saw coming... But that aside, the story had some good parts to it, but wtf was that dramatic ending chapters with the psycho guy .. And then a HEA that seemed too good to be true. Just my take on it.
I loved this book so much! It is set in a rock and roll world and in this world are Nikki Benson and her sisters Presley and Jett and because their mum married into a famous rock family there are 3 step brothers Dion, Rafe and Kyle Davis. Both the girls and their step brothers are very talented musically and hoping to hit the big time with their bands; Satan's Sisters and Rogue Nation. When their stepbrother Kyle dies from an overdose Nikki steps in to be the drummer for Rogue Nation. Nikki has a huge crush on Dion and has had to endure him going through groupies which upsets her. However,Nikki and Dion start an affair and the sex scenes are HOT!!! Nikki is in love with Dion but Dion makes it seem like he is just using her for sex. As they all go on tour there is an unassuming enemy lurking in their midst and Nikki and Dion's affair sky rockets but might be heading for a crash landing
It's a fabulous book and I highly recommend it, go one click it right now! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
ALC Audio Book Review 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had the amazing privilege to listen to and ALC copy. Nikki and her sisters have been around the music industry their entire lives. Nikki and her sisters grew up on a tour bus. Nikki learned how to play drums from Anthem's legendary drummer. Their mother was the ultimate groupie and married the lead singer of Anthem. Nikki has been in love with one of her stepbrothers since the first time she met him. Dion and his brothers are the newest up and coming band until Kyle (the drummer) overdosed. Nikki has the chance of a lifetime to play drums and go on tour with her stepbrothers band as a fill in drummer. The sexual tension between Dion and Nikki is intense. If they get together it could ruin the band. Loved this book. Can't wait for Jet's book. Ramona Masters is absolutely incredible narrating this book!
This is my first book by Elle Hreco and I’m really impressed! I loved the story and Elle’s writing style.
Nikki and Dion, oh boy where do I start? Their parents married each other making Nik and Dion step siblings. Nik had 2 sisters and Dion has 2 brothers all living under one roof.
After losing his brother and bandmate, Dion is devastated and angry and lost. Nik happens to be his punching bag. Dion’s agent/dad hires Nikki to be the bands new drummer for their tour. She negotiates that her band/sisters join the tour.
The anger and tension on tour is intense but they all have to get along so they can get through this tour.
I really liked the back and forth between Nik and Dion. They struggle with “do we like each other” or “do we hate each other”. The ending was a surprise in a good way! There was a lot of action at the end of the story. I’ve already started book 2 😉
This was the first time I've read any kind of rockstar romance, and while it is not my typical genre, I found myself drawn into the story very easily.
There's a lot of family drama in this, and a lot of big tempers. It lost some points for me because I'm not a huge fan of the asshole-like main love interest, but if that's your thing my guess is you'll really enjoy this book. I also struggled to get past the whole step-brother thing. Again, not my jam but if you're chill with it, you will probably enjoy this book.
I am curious to read the next book because, I will admit, I very much enjoyed Jett, Nikki's sister and it seems the next book is about her. So while I did not enjoy some of the elements of this specific story, I did very much enjoy the storytelling of the author, and will definitely be looking into another book by them.
Overall I thought this book was pretty good. Because this is a new author, I didn’t know what to expect, but I liked her writing style and “feel” of the book. I would’ve liked to see the ages of Nikki and Dion be made a little clearer instead of trying to guess and do math to figure it out. We find out she was 12 when they met, but we don’t find out that Dion was 16 at that time until close to two-thirds of the way thru the book. I like to know the ages at the start of the book... it really sets the scene in my mind, and that adds to my overall experience reading it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Holy cow! This story was really good. I hated Dion in the beginning because he was a total jerk. He was such a rockstar doing groupies while Nikki was pinning away for him. Also the mixed messages were driving me nuts. But you know the old saying, the bigger they are the harder they fall. Dion ended up being really sweet and kind of hot. They’re both very young and reading about them falling in love was just awesome. Dion actually had demons like his brother Kyle, it was sad to hear him share his pain. I loved the ending and can’t wait to read the next book. I got this book from Booksiren in exchange for an honest review which I freely gave.
The last three chapters were my favorite part of the book and were really well done. The ending made me want to continue reading the series even though I didn't like Dion for the majority of the book. I would recommend this to listeners who like forbidden romance, rockstar romance or stories where one of the main characters is kind of a dick. There's no cheating, but the characters aren't together for the majority of the book.
I listened to the audiobook with Ramona Master and she did a great job with the narration. I like that her voice is relatively unique and would listen to her again.
🎸rock star romance 🎸stepbrother romance 🎸forced proximity
Nikki Benson had a crush on her stepbrother,Dion Davis, since she was 12. Since the first moment Dion Davis met his stepmom and her daughters he hated them.
Dion is the lead singer for the band Rogue Nation, and when the band drummer overdosed they needed to find a replacement drummer. But not any drummer, they need the best drummer in LA. And this drummer? Is no other than Nikki.
Now they both on a tour , sleeping at the same bus and basically in close proximity 24/7 . Could they ignore their chemistry?
Rockstar - check! Romance - check! Angst - check! Drama - check! Family drama - check! This book checks off all the boxes necessary for a rockstar romance. It has enemies to lovers, close proximity, step siblings all inclusive also. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dion and Nikki fought against their feelings. He went ballistic when she replaced his deceased brother in their band. After both being brats realization finally landed. Its amazing how hate masks love. Love always shines through. This is a must read book. I truly love how Dion never wavered once he realized his feelings. I'm off to read the next in this series now!
Such an interesting concept of a groupie marrying a rockstar and how his children and his interact as they start out in music
I loved this story. I wished we had a tiny bit more on how Dion got so bad in regards to Nikki to where he pretty much willing to sacrifice his own band. Nikki seemed to know it would be bad touring but not THAT bad. I just would of liked more understanding. Was he immature and couldn't show her he cared.? So star off for her fooled twice.
I received an ARC for an honest review, and am I ever glad I did. Right from the beginning, these authors had me hooked. The writing was engaging, the characters strong and the story line solid. I want to know more about this messed up blended 'family' and their rock-star lives. They all have their baggage but that just makes them more interesting. I hope Nikki and Dion keep their HEA, but I think Jett's story is going to be interesting. Not loving Presley too much though - really hope what's hinted at in book one isn't true. 4.5 stars
I did enjoy this book but I had a hard time with Dion. He admits to being an a-hole many times, and he deserves the title. Nikki, AKA Nik, couldn't help but fall in love with him. Honestly, she's been in love with him since she was 12 and her mom married his dad. So, yes they are step-siblings but not related by blood in any way.
This is a rough story and I would be remiss not to post trigger warnings. They are as follows
-Drug abuse -Death -Sexual language and vivid scenes
There is no cheating, no rape, no self-harm or harm to others.
