The Bible Timeline Study Kit provides the home study component of The Bible Timeline. Each lesson should be concluded with the corresponding lecture from the DVD or CD series, which contains expert commentary presented by Jeff Cavins. The Bible Timeline Study Kit includes:
Study Set: Questions and Responses
An in-depth, 176-page set of Study Questions (including maps, charts, tables and note-pages) with a corresponding 88-page set of Responses provides you with a guide for your reading and Scripture study.
Bible Timeline Chart
A 33" full-color chart provides a visual overview of the books of the Bible. It allows you to track the growth of God's family from Creation to the establishment of the Church and see Bible history in context of world events.
Bible Timeline Bookmark
A full-color bookmark provides the significance for the color assigned to each time period and serves as a reference tool to mark your place in your Bible.
After twelve years as a Protestant pastor, Jeff returned to the Catholic Church under the guidance of Bishop Paul Dudley. His conversion story, one of the best known and inspiring stories of its kind, is chronicled in the best-selling book, My Life on the Rock.
Over the past several decades, Jeff has dedicated his life to developing The Great Adventure: A Journey through the Bible, a practical, interactive program that helps people read the “big picture” of God’s plan in Sacred Scripture and understand its meaning for their lives. The Great Adventure presents the entire sweep of the Bible in a way that is easy to understand and genuinely fun. Its unique Bible Timeline learning system has revolutionized Catholic Bible Study for hundreds of thousands of Catholics since 1995.
Jeff received his MA in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
We had listened to the audio version several years ago and are now doing the study with the videos and workbook in a group study with others. The Great Adventure is very helpful in pointing out how the Old Testament is fulfilled in the New. He uncovers themes that are hidden in plain sight. (I love this stuff!) Jeff Cavens is very knowledgable and entertaining.
Lots of great information, questions, and group discussions. If you're doing the full study the videos were very repetitive so we quit watching them halfway through. But I really enjoyed how deep this study went. It was a LOT of reading and I didn't get it all done every week, but I still learned a ton. Some of it was overkill, I'll be honest. We took almost a whole year to do it but I felt like even that was a little fast for the amount of reading and information you needed to digest, but I also had a baby thisc year so I had a lot going on 😆
I definitely know much, much more about Scripture than I did a year ago. I think this worked out to be great for understanding the sweeping picture and beginning to see the interconnections within the story. As someone who didn't grow up with any sort of Bible knowledge (not even Veggie Tales), I really have been on shaky ground when it comes to really understanding individual passages (or even whole books!), let alone being able to grasp or critically engage with Scriptural interpretation by anyone else. Now I have a starting point.
This is a great study. I loved experiencing the entire Salvation History through this study and found the color coded sections helpful in understanding better when each book of the Bible occurs and how they tie together. This study did a nice job of discussing how the Old and New Testament tie together amd how the Old is reveal in the New. It took awhile to complete but was worth the time to grow in faith and understanding.
Amazing Bible study. I completed this 4 years ago and have continued to take classes using The Great Adventure: A Journey Through the Bible material. It is a fabulous study with a video component. Highly recommended. Go to ascensionpress.com to find classes near you.
Excellent study covering the historical books of the Bible that gives you the full picture of salvation history. I feel like I understand the Bible so much better than I did before, and the timeline is a tool I will use for study in the future. Highly recommend!!
Wow, just wow! Thank you Father Mike for humble and loving and inspirational reading. Spending 20 mins a day reading the bible has been a gift. Your insights have helped me to understand more. This study and podcast have brought me to a fuller relationship with God.
Fantastic!! This is set up to be a 24 week course & small group discussion with a workbook & DVD lectures by Jeff Cavins. I could only attend the group sessions for half of the series, the rest, I listened to on my own. Teasing out the story that runs through the 73 books of the Bible. It primarily focuses on 14 narrative books that tell our salvation history and the many connections between the OT and NT, but one dips into many of the other books as well, that enhance or provide deeper meaning to the primary story. Jeff Cavins is an excellent speaker who holds your interest throughout and lives up to St Augustine's description of our journey relationship with God & Jesus is the Great Adventure . I had only a cursory knowledge of the OT and this series really made me delve into it so much more. There is a sleight Roman Catholic slant as he interjects Catholic teaching from the Catechism of the Church where it is applicable to Scripture being discussed.
This was a 24-week study, with homework, a group discussion at the beginning of each session, and then a lesson on DVD given by Jeff Cavins. It walks through 14 narrative books of the Bible, which present the Bible as a consecutive thread from Creation through the Resurrection and the creation of the Church. The study package comes with a timeline showing 12 periods from the Bible, and tracing Jesus' bloodline through Bible history from Adam, through David, up to Mary and Joseph. It was very interesting to see it presented in this way -- I left with more of a holistic view of the Bible. The fellowship and interaction in a group setting followed by periods of study added to the enrichment experience. I loved it!
