Moriarty, well one of them, stands revealed as the Lord of Crime. With the final parts of the plan being set in motion, it falls to the capable Sherlock Holmes to try and thwart his arch-nemesis, provided he wants to stop him in the first place.
I’ve enjoyed this series enough that I’m happy to follow along (or take the plunge, if we want to maintain the allusions) as it completes its storyline and the series wraps up.
This isn’t a bad little story thus far and I like that after all the blood that’s been spilled we see that Moriarty is not unaffected by what he’s done to achieve his aims and his vision of a better future is one that also gets rid of him in the bargain. At the hands of Holmes, naturally.
(If they both fake their deaths and run off together, I will have to give this arc five stars just for going for it)
Yet Moriarty may have his course set, but it’s not all smooth sailing. Some of the gang do not accept that he has to die to make this come about, plus Holmes himself has little enthusiasm about being a pawn in somebody else’s schemes.
I rather enjoyed seeing Holmes get the full picture at long last - there is a bit of a hint of Death Note about it all that does feel rather like an ouroboros of detective and criminal pairings - and a reminder that he’s no slouch as a detective.
If there’s anything a bit daft about this, and make no mistake, many volumes have something a bit daft about them, it’s how killing the nobles results in the near-collapse of the Empire. They sort of allude to it affecting the police’s ability to keep the peace, but how it spirals out into low employment and food shortages is less clear.
But, I suppose the main action is the point, rather than sweating the small details. But as somebody who loves the small details, this was a wee problem. Still, this works at showing what’s going on, why, and how various people cope with it, both amongst and outside of the principle players.
There isn’t much else to say - we end only partly through this grand finale so there’s not enough to really judge on how it sticks the landing, but it’s not going terribly so far. I did think at the end they were about to drag the Great Fire of London into this, until I realized they were a couple centuries too late, which would have been a real move, even for this story.
3 stars - good enough for now and chugging along at about my baseline for the series. I’m sure this can land a reasonably decent conclusion, it has rarely left me utterly disappointed, so that’ll be something to look forward to.

Tożsamość Mistrza Zbrodni została upubliczniona co powoduje znaczne przyspieszenie planu. Koniec jest już blisko.
Nie, nie, jak bardzo krzyczałam przy tym tomie, ja rozumie motywacje Liama ( mieliśmy czas przez 13 tomów) ale decyzje które podejmuje bolą mnie bardziej niż bym się spodziewała. Uwielbiam sposób, w którym każdy określa swoje priorytety a jeszcze bardziej w jaki sposób działają. Mimo to teraz nic już nie rozumiem, przez co boje się nieuniknionego końca.

The Final Problem arc is finally here. What a load of emotional damage. I already know what happened, but I’m so happy that someone has been eliminated (is he really gone, I wonder). John isn't satisfied with Sherlock’s selfishness. This man’s moral compass is amazing. I’ve always loved John Watson’s character. Bad at combat but incredibly pure-hearted and loyal. P/s: Angry John is a scary sight. Sherlock did it all for John and Mary’s sake (even though this is so out of character for him). They did make amends which is good.
The Moriarty team had to change their plans due to a certain incident. Louis is not happy with this and with what’s to come. He knows his brother’s demise is coming—his only blood relative. You know things are bad when Fred gets talkative. It wasn’t only Louis who wanted to keep William alive. The two share the same sentiments, but the rest of the members don’t. The teams now have opposing views but the plan must go on!! The ending is near. /sobs
I love this volume so much. The final volumes (of the original arc) are packed with so much drama, action, and revelations!!! I am not ready to read 14!!

Comme toujours, ce tome se lit tout seul, le mangaka ayant l’art et la manière de plonger sans réserve ses lecteurs dans une intrigue dont chaque acte est orchestré avec soin. Je n’accroche toujours pas aux touches d’humour qui ont tendance à me sortir de l’histoire, mais je reconnais qu’elles allègent une atmosphère parfois un peu sombre. Le sang coule, et que ce soit pour une juste cause ou non, cela ne justifie en rien des actes plus proches du jugement dernier que de la justice. D’ailleurs, de jugement dernier, il en est presque question quand l’on découvre ce qui se dessine en fin de tome...

One of my favorite parts of this series has always been watching plans unfold. It’s satisfying to both see the way they were set up and the ways they have to plan and deal with diversions. I’m so excited to see this all play out!

oh my, oh my, what a volume, to say i flew through it is an understatement.... as much as i loved it, i hated how close to the ending we are coming.... not sure if am ready for volume 14 but i have to know even though i know what will happen... i have to see it for myself.

Per quanto gli avversari siano malvagi, sono consapevole del fatto che finora ho commesso una serie di reati imperdonabili. Le mie mani sono già intrise di rosso scarlatto. Queste macchie non si potranno in alcun modo lavare via, mai e poi mai. E infatti, Fred, io ormai desidero morire!"
Siamo ormai arrivati al punto di massima tensione. La minaccia di quel fetente di Milverton si è concretizzata e ormai la vera identità del signore del crimine è di pubblico dominio. Noi sappiamo che i tre fratelli Moriarty hanno sempre lavorato insieme, ma a questo punto William decide di portare avanti la parte finale del piano da solo. Di diventare una figura odiata da nobili e poveri. E di pagare con la vita per tutte le azioni commesse (e pure per quelle non commesse). Il problema è che, adesso che la prospettiva della morte di William si fa sempre più concreta, nel gruppo compaiono le prime crepe. In particolare, Lewis e Fred non possono accettare questa conclusione: in nome di un piano destinato a rivoluzionare la struttura sociale del paese, William ha compiuto azioni riprovevoli che hanno messo a dura prova il suo animo, tanto che lui stesso desidera morire. Bond e Moran sanno di non potersi sostituire a lui e quindi cercano di aiutarlo il più possibile, mentre Lewis e Fred decidono di chiedere aiuto alla persona designata a catturare William: Sherlock. Non oso nemmeno immaginare come si senta Albert...Il numero di omicidi imputabili al signore del crimine continua ad aumentare e a Londra regna ormai il caos più completo. E sembra che il peggio debba ancora venire.
E Sherlock? Beh, suo malgrado, è riuscito a realizzare il delitto perfetto, visto che il cadavere di Milverton non si trova. Tuttavia, la vacanzina a Scotland Yard si rivelerà utile visto che non solo riuscirà a ricostruire tutto il piano dei fratelli Moriarty e a comprendere le loro prossime mosse, ma rifletterà un pochino su se stesso. Se pensava di ricevere una bella pacca sulla spalla da John (e da Mycroft), si sbaglia di grosso. Milverton sarà stato anche un gran pezzo di merda, ma, premendo il grilletto, Sherlock si è sporcato le mani di sangue. Mosso dal desiderio di aiutare l'amico, non ha pensato alle conseguenze morali del suo gesto. Una cosa che John non può accettare e che farà capire a Sherlock che deve prendersi più cura di se stesso. Comunque sia, i nostri due disagiati sono stati convocati a Buckingham Palace per ricevere dalle mani della regina l'ordine di catturare il Signore del crimine. Ormai manca pochissimo allo scontro finale.

Oh my god that's ENOUGH. I've had enough suffering it's time for the beach episode.😤 This sent me spiraling at 8am I'm so serious.
The Moriarty plan is in full force with William now out of the shadows and going on a killing spree of a list of bad nobles they have made. Sherlock is in police custody after he murderer Milverton but without Milverton's body, they have no case.
This shit literally made me so emotional?? I feel so bad for William and it's causing me emotional distress. 😭
He's going on this spree taking out murderers and whatever other kind of nasty nobles they targeted but even with that, he doesn't see himself as an executioner delivering justice- he sees himself as a man wrongly killing other men. The way he talks about his hands being stained with crimson and how he can never clean them after this and wants to literally die??? The scene of him trying to wash the blood from his hands HURT.
The fact the end goal is for someone to kill him because he cannot live with the guilt of what he's doing despite the fact that he's doing it for the good of society. Him pushing his friends away from helping him so he alone carries the burden of it all??? The way they turned the character of Moriarty into one of tragedy instead of being an evil nemesis is so heartbreaking and my therapist will be hearing about this!!
When Louis and Fred want to save him from his plan. 😭 The way they know Sherlock is the only hope they have to stop William and save him is SICK. Like Sherlock you better come save your boy or I will be the one killing myself!!!!
I loved the Sherlock and John interactions and someone needs to tell Sherlock that he looks sexy with his hair pushed back because he looked sexy with his hair pushed back. John getting so upset at Sherlock and flipping a table lol he's so real for that.
It was so sad watching William kill people and then look sad about it but also he looked really good doing it lmao. He serves so much cunt with that cloak and his cool cane sword and then when he was smoking? And being sad boy the entire time??? Oh I was losing my mind. Like I think I can fix him honestly.
Not having the next volume immediately available to me to read is the biggest crime here.

it's been a long while since a manga caused me so much psychological stress all because i cared about the characters and their circumstances a bit Too Much. i love it. truly one of my favorite morally grey found families in fiction. can't wait to raise my blood pressure by continuing the rest of the arc soon.

Le monde le sait. Le prince du crime est maintenant connu du grand public. Ce dernier a même révéler la liste des nobles qu’ils comptes tuer. Jusqu’à son dernier meurtre…
Mais le reste de la famille doit aussi affronter la décision de William de porter tout le poids des crimes. Ce dernier veut garder la souillures pour lui. Mais les autres que veulent-ils? J’ai adoré ce tome dans la psychologie des personnages. Fred, Moran, Louis, William… le reste de la famille. Bref encore un bon tome. Et pleins d’émotions.
L’étau se resserre sur Will et Sherlock qui lui aussi prend une décision sur son évolution. Comment cela va-t-il finir? Svp Kana sortez les tomes plus vites je peux pas attendre 😭😭😭 Merci d’avance
