Rosemary Gladstar is a pioneer in the herbal movement and has been called the "Godmother of American Herbalism." She began more than 35 years ago developing herbal formulas in her herb shop, Rosemary's Garden in Sonoma County, California. She is the founder of the California School of Herbal Studies, the oldest running herb school in the United States, author of The Science and Art of Herbalism home study course, and is the director of the International Herb Symposium and The New England Women's Herbal Conference held annually in NE. She is the author of numerous herb books including the bestseller Herbal Healing for Women, The Storey Book Herbal Healing Series, and Herbal Remedies for Vibrant Health. Rosemary is also the co-founder of Traditional Medicinal Tea Company and did all of the original formulations for the company. She has taught extensively throughout the United States and worldwide at venues as varied as backyard gardens, native villages, garden clubs to universities and hospitals. She has won numerous awards and certificates for her work with medicinal plants, but her greatest reward has been in watching the herbal renaissance soar from its birth and feeling in some small exciting way, a part of it.

Her greatest passion has been the work of United Plant Savers, a nonprofit organization that Rosemary founded in 1994 and is currently serving as Founding President. UpS is dedicated to the conservation and cultivation of at-risk North American medicinal plants and to preserving botanical sanctuaries across the U.S. to help preserve the land that these precious native species thrive on. For information on United Plant Savers, please visit: www.unitedplantsavers.org

Rosemary lives and works from her home, Sage Mountain Herbal Retreat Center, a 500-acre botanical preserve in central Vermont.

For what this is, essentially a small recipe book and herb dictionary, this is quite insightful. I knew very little about natural ailment remedies before reading this book. This gave me a good foundation to start experimenting and testing recipes of my own.

I read the 2014 updated version of this book, but Goodreads didn't have it listed. I imagine there isn't that much difference between my version and this one.

The book is a very good primer on herbs for the nervous system. Rosemary Gladstar is a well-known herbalist, and her books are very easy to understand. In this book, she gives an overview of the nervous system and then divides the rest of the book into sections dealing with different issues - remedies for stress and anxiety (headaches, depression, anxiety/panic, insomnia, etc.) as well as remedies for strengthening the nervous system. There's a chapter with detailed information on specific herbs that are good for the nervous system and another chapter that gives some very basic information on infusions, decoctions, tinctures, capsules, and dosing amounts. At the end of the book is a list of resources - for more information and place to purchase quality herbs.

This is a great book to have on your "farmacy" shelf.

Cool little book with precise indications for the conditions you may be experiencing, either anxiety, panic attacks, chronic stress or depression.

It also comes with dosage suggestions, and a glossary of herbs and what they work for/how should they be taken for maximum efficiency.

I enjoyed perusing this - seems to have some good recipes. But not exactly what I'm looking for right now.

I used this book to help write a paper about nervine herbs. It had a great explanation about the different kinds of nervine herbs, which was very useful.

I'm going to essentially repeat a review from another book in this series because it is accurate for this book as well. It was okay because the books in the Storey Basics series by Rosemary seem to repeat much of the same information. They are cute little books, though, but not as informative as "Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health." I highly recommend that book, but this one is short and sweet, and discusses primarily nervine herbs.

Thought this was an oil book when I got it. Never worked with herbs. This book gives some good recipes and ideas for depression, anxiety, lack of sleep, headaches, etc. I will have to look into locating herbs giving it a try.

It's one of the most helpful books I've ever read. Although my first bachelor is in microbiology and I published a book in this field recently, but I didn't know the information regarding sore cold, i read in this book. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a healthier life.

So unprofessional.
As a pharmacist who's into pharmacognosy I can say that this books is horrible. Some explanations are far away from scients.

Learning to strengthen the nervous system by adding natural herbs to your diet is easier than one might think. Rosemary Gladstar has compiled the information and natural herb recipes for completing this task.

I believe everyone has some sort of anxiety, stress, depression, or panic attacks, and these topics are covered with a wealth of information and terrific homemade herbal recipes. The natural herbs that are included in a few of the recipes have parsley; flowers of essence include aspen, rock rose, and olive.

Ms. Gladstar also includes a list of natural herbs nerviness along with a very descriptive analysis, it uses, benefits, and preparation tips. She discusses nerve tonics and sedatives. There is also a section on ‘Which Ginseng Should I Use? When preparing your remedy from natural herbs, there is a dosage chart for reference.

In addition, under the heading ‘Massage and Body Therapies’, gives great information on relaxation for the body and mind.

Rosemary Gladstar brings much insight to the nervous system in our bodies, which often is overlooked. I highly recommend to everyone seeking a possible natural alternative to pharmaceutical drugs. Do not use these remedies before consulting with your personal physician.

I received this book free from Storey Publishing through the Net Galley Reviewer Program for this unbiased review.

Herbs for Stress & Anxiety: How to Make and Use Herbal Remedies to Strengthen the Nervous System by Rosemary Gladstar is an accessible guide to the uses of herbs in combating the affects of stress on the body. There is detailed information on the herbs used, recipes, and instructions for using the herbs and recipes safely.

Herbs for Stress & Anxiety is an accessible guide about how to make your herbal remedies to strengthen your nervous system and address a wide range of symptoms, including panic attacks, depression, insomnia, anxiety, headaches, migraines, herpes, neuralgia, and more. I liked that the book went into the specifics of the maladies to be treated and the herbs being mentioned. I do not always enjoy reading the personal philosophy that is included, but the information is well explained and some of the recipes included are ones that I will try.

I would recommend Herbs for Stress & Anxiety to readers that are looking to begin their journey, or solidify their knowledge, in working with herbs to manage some minor physical and physiological aspects of stress and anxiety. The recipes and herbal properties included are very well explained and organized.
