The dictionary defines “fundamental” as “a central or primary rule or principle on which something is based.” If you are fundamentalist in your beliefs it would require that you hold to the core principles upon which your faith is established.
But for many Christians who consider themselves fundamentalists, there are limits to how fundamental they should remain. They hold to many of the fundamentals of the faith. They consider themselves fundamental but in practice, they compromise and are only “fundamental-ish”.
Fundamental-ish brethren contend for a fundamental-ish faith, practice fundamental-ish liberties, sing and perform fundamental-ish music, learn fundamental-ish ideas, participate in fundamental-ish dialogue, organize fundamental-ish conferences, embrace fundamental-ish standards, and attend—and even pastor—fundamental-ish churches.
